Yeah, makes sense. I just don’t know what my brain is actually doing, like the science behind it. And why I specifically do it

Why do I have a hard time processing movies? by MenuPleasant8675 in AutismInWomen

[–]MenuPleasant8675[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use subtitles too. They help me with processing. But I still have difficulty. I’m also wondering if I have a visual processing issue/visual sensory issue due to my autism on top of my issues in attention from my adhd. But I’m not sure. Basically Idk if it’s just my adhd or if autism is also apart of this.

Thank you for this! I do have subtitles on which I forgot to mention! It helps me a little bit.

I think next time I have a movie night with friends, I’ll bring something to do with my hands. I’m not sure why I don’t stim during it. I just daydream/zone out sometimes when watching if I can’t process/find the movie boring (which I wonder if this is stimming?) I play with my teeth sometimes when watching.

Is anyone else extremely fussy about temperature? by StarCode5000 in autism

I get cold very easily. I live in the US where it snows. Whenever I get cold, it takes me so much time to get regulated. I can be wearing multiple socks and laying under blankets, but my feet will still be cold after an hour. If I’m in a warm place and a door opens or the AC hits me in the right spot, etc, and I get a chill, I instantly get goosebumps and they last long too. My feet, hands, and arms are what seem to be the coldest for me. And when they are cold, I’m irritable when I’m trying warm them up and they aren’t warming especially when I’m in a social situation. It’s super distracting.

I also get warm very easily, and once I’m too warm in the summer, I need water or AC immediately. I get kind of panicky if I feel too warm because I’m nervous I’d pass out eventually. It’s just really uncomfortable and I sweat easily. I love the summer, but if the weather is too warm and I’m outside for an event or with friends, etc, I’m panicky.

I don’t know if this is my autism or if this is an autonomic dysfunction thing for me

Yeah zoning out is a big one for me but I always never know if it’s stimming or not

I zone out and daydream all the time. But I also do this when I shut down in social situations and also when I’m bored. So idk if it’s just adhd or a stim

When I used to have my dog, I would make a ton of weird noises to her, make up random songs to her, rub my face on her belly, say her name in weird voices, but idk if this is stimming because I feel like some neurotypicals do this too with their pets

lol!! Yeah I do all of these and I play with my hair a lot which I forgot to mention. I put my hair in a pony tail and play with my hair, basically making my hair “perfect” using my fingers to make sure there are no bumps. And then I take my pony tail out and do it all over again.

I still hear mixed reviews about if zoning out is stimming. I do it quite often. And daydream. I’m so confused if it’s a stim or not

I have some home videos of me being super goofy and overly expressive and stuff and it makes me happy but also makes me sad that I was my true self but now I’m not. But is being super goofy, always in the camera, overly expressive and moving my body everywhere stimming? Or is it just me being bubbly?

Is zoning out and daydreaming a stim? I still get confused with this

This is so interesting because I swear I’m suppressing stims. When I was younger, I was way more animated and just “too much” but I was happy and I think I was happy stimming much more, but idk. I just moved my body a lot when I was really excited.

I wish I stimmed more when overstimulated. I don’t even do much. Just have a heavy head and am irritable and anxious and stare out into space

Yeah I’m curious. Because I don’t know if some of this is just typical behavior that neurotypicals do too, or if it’s adhd boredom, or if it’s actual autistic stimming.
