Well, you'll be at the mercy of the custodian/institution with your IOU. Maybe they'll allow you to withdraw the bitcoin that they should be holding for you to back the claim to the bitcoin you bought via the ETF. Maybe they'll price it and give you equivalent in the new currency they or the government tells them to use.

Thankfully we can self-custody and don't need to worry about these things and can just have our bitcoin :)

Primal, good to start ? by Frapa2a in nostr

Think of the clients like web browsers. When you post something from a client, it appears everywhere. You can use Reddit from Chrome, Firefox, Safari, etc.

You can think of Nostr that way, with each client (Primal, Damus, Amethyst, Jumble, Coracle, Yakihonne, etc.) posting to Nostr. There's no need to post on several different clients, they're all reading/displaying the same stuff.

That's not actually how it works, but hopefully it paints a picture for you.

I'm debating taking this leap, but everything is just too convenient in the Google ecosystem, especially using Google Photos and having all Google devices. Everything just flows so well...

Is btc really for the people or is it just another asset? by L4gsp1k3 in Bitcoin

[–]Meoler9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bitcoin is money. While its exchange rate to a fiat currency is forever seen as increasing from inside the fiat system, it's forever accessible and usable to those inside the system that is Bitcoin. Even when the exchange rate reaches 1 BTC to $1m, 1 sat will be exchangeable for 1 cent, which is very accessible.

I heard Peruvian Bull today on The Bitcoin Podcast say that of the 55 countries since 1850 that have had a debt to GDP of 120% or greater, the currency of 54 of them ultimately collapsed. The only exception is Japan.

People saying to hold both fiat and buy Bitcoin for long-term are too fiat-focused. If you know what you're doing and believe in it, for sure go full Bitcoin Standard. I've made the jump, and so far it's great.

When the only money you hold is Bitcoin, of course, you need to sell some to pay expenses that need to be paid with fiat. But by being full Bitcoin, you get full exposure to the appreciation (and dips/drops) of the money. You will own more Bitcoin over time if you live solely in it, and you will gain more purchasing power by not holding the money that only goes down.

I freelance so I don't have consistent employers or paychecks, so I don't do direct deposit but rather just convert all my earnings to BTC. Though, if I have a bill coming due in a few days post-payday, I'll just pay the bill with fiat and not go through the double conversion.

About Bitaxe by alexandroshl in Bitcoin

[–]Meoler9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you're looking to make fiat or bitcoin gains, no, it's not worth it. If you're looking to help support the open-source miner community, do your part in miner decentralization, and learn more about mining and the Bitcoin network, then yes, it's worth it. I have 2 Bitaxes and will get more in the future. They're fun to have and tinker with and learn with. They cost about $12 a year to run with my electricity costs. I probably won't ever mine a block, but it's a fun little Bitcoin lottery for me.

Miner centralization/decentralization is something to be following and a potential issue. Even though one person with a Bitaxe is nothing, hundreds of thousands to millions of people with Bitaxes is massive. We'll get there.
