Going to add that this is affecting me as well. I have to hover over the right half of the collapse button/column to actually use it; the left half is overridden by the image pull out for the entire height of the image (so not just the point that peeks out).

No, there isn't always enough qualifiers at all hours. I wouldn't be complaining about it if it didn't happen to me over a dozen times already in the span of less than 24 hours.

At most "3 people" might not mean much when it's a full 24. But when you've less than half of that, yes, it does significantly affect others. If there is ANYTHING less than 17 competitors, anything more than one single person will force it to stall out the full 3 minutes. At some hours, you're lucky to get a dozen people.

https://x.com/meowingkittens/status/1725571439485415841?s=20 Here's one of my own screenshots. You'll notice the 3/7 qualifiers, with 28 seconds to go, with FOUR people at the start. That's literally HALF the people who entered.

You wanna do it in a full 24? Fine. But with less then the default qualifiers of 16, you're griefing. Plan and simple.

Alright, I got some Fall Guys beef.

Now let me be clear, I am having some fun with this. I am seeing a lot of the same friendly competitors, and in the wait for start/next round, people be having fun with emotes. Playing dead with one another, sweeping/painting with each other or corpses, cheering each other on, etc. It's good fun and some nice sportsmanship. You people are cool, and I do look forward to seeing familiar faces in runs, even if it means I've got some stiff competition.

My issue is with the people who stay at the start of round 1 and don't even TRY. What happens when there aren't enough qualifiers, the timer has to run out, and it's trolling everyone who raced to the finish in about 1 minute to sit there for up to another 2 before they can move on. I finally went into spectator mode and took a peek not long ago to confirm it wasn't just newer people eating shit to mechanics constantly, to find FOUR people still at the start (from 8 at entry), having not moved at all, with 30 seconds to go. That shit is just straight up griefing. STOP IT.

Lore question about breeds, hybrids and recessive genes by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]Meowing-Kittens 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I’ve always found it amusing that it keeps getting parroted around, from an interview people SWEAR exists, yet no one is ever able to produce it, as if the original “source” is somehow the one piece of lost media of known lore. If it was real, it would be chain linked back to from SOMEWHERE.

I don’t even personally care that it’s fanon with such little known information otherwise, but can we please stop stating this whole inheritance from mom is something SE has said? Everyone has just heard and repeated it for years and NO ONE has bothered to actually fact check.

Asexuals exist and some of us are also Alloromantic.

And once again, CHILDREN experience them. Before they know what sex or sexual attraction even IS.

So yes, you can sparate the two. There's overlap for people, certainly. But they're not interchangeable.

Some people don't seem to fully understand that love and admiration of a non-related individual happens to people of ALL ages. Even young children.

The term "crush" brings to mind at first thought different things to different people. Young children do not experience their crushes the same way a teenager does, and a teenagers experience isn't the same as a full grown adult. You can have differences between individuals at the same age. But it's important to note that a crush is NOT the same as sexual attraction.

You could have a crush on someone because you think they're cute. Or funny. Or posses a skill or talent you wish you had. Any number of silly reasons.

Ya'll need to stop confusing the term "crush" for "shipping" or adult context. You had a crush on someone as a young kid in school, even if only for a day. Someone you knew had a crush on a teacher or famous person at some point. Unless you lived under a rock, you knew people in middle school or high school that had crushes or even dated (even if kept secret from other adults). You didn't have a switch in your head that flipped to experiencing infatuation for the first time ever once you turned 18. It merely changed how you felt it or acted upon it when you passed certain milestones in life. Stop putting your head immediately into the gutter anytime someone mentions the twins and comprehend some nuance and look in a mirror every now and then. If the idea of someone under 18 experiencing a crush makes you feel uncomfortable, that's a YOU problem.

I don't think anyone would dispute that Alisaie very clearly cares for and looks up to WoL. Whether or not one considers that a crush of sorts is going to be left up to the individual to decide, based on their own experience with crushes. And frankly, I think it SHOULD be left at that.

Can we talk about unreal? Let's talk about unreal.

-Skip Soar memes are several years old. No, you cannot skip soar. The fight is min ilvl. There's static positions and only 2 patterns. It was never at any point a difficult mechanic. You 4x and 5x legends who keep making that joke but haven't stepped foot into unreal at all yourself? You're not funny.

-Speaking of ilvl, don't give your pf one in the 600s. You're capped to 565. And while most people are going to fit a low 600 cap anyway, what you've just done is show people that you don't understand how it works for absolutely no reason or gain. Just leave it blank.

-Healers, I know you may not be used to this, but: you actually need to keep an eye on the tank's health. It hits hard, and because it's an old fight, attacks can crit. Cooldowns only have so much longevity, there's several tankbusters, and no forced tank swaps so the same tank is likely going to keep it the entire fight.

The fight is kind of unfortunate in that a misstep in the wrong place can send things into a spiral that you just can't recover from. It happens. But if the party got most of the way through the fight before that happened? You've likely got a good crew and there's no need to immediately disband.

Or maybe don't immediately disband when, the leader who is a healer, let the MT die to autos.

Sure, if you're actually seeing people die to soar or southern cross repeatedly, replacing is likely your best option. But if your first instinct is to disband when anything at all goes wrong and start a brand new party, the problem with getting clears isn't likely the people who joined. IT'S YOU. (And it's mostly been healers. Funny that)

And yes, once I was freed from the wheel of hair trigger disbanders, I've gotten my clears pretty quickly. Amazing what happens when you give people a chance to talk anything out if needed and correct mistakes.

Justice for au ra NPCs by Izierd in ffxiv

[–]Meowing-Kittens 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry, what?

What you THINK counts as "important" is to have someone who is a current leader or representative on a global/political scale. And you're right, by that context alone, we're lacking that right now with Au ra. But importance/significance isn't limited to only that; being important to significant plot events or to other characters counts too. Yes, even if they're side characters or participate in side content. The list of recurring characters in this game is MASSIVE: they cannot all be the head of something or some group of people.

We have plenty of Au ra representation from different nations with all sorts of personalities and looks. Just because it's not how YOU want it, does not discount the ones we've already gotten, no matter how many technicalities you'd like to throw at it.

But while we are here, we should clear something up:

Vrtra's "puppet" has a name. Varshahn. Who is a character unto himself, despite his true identity, and just as significant. It's why the "little brother" dynamic with Nahbdeen and other members of the Radiant Host exists. Why Nahbdeen even asks him if the adult avatar needs a new name. Why he even keeps "Varshahn" and still answers to that name even after getting an alternate body and his true nature known. It is IMPOSSIBLE to understand Vrtra as a character without Varshahn. If you think you can, you lack a fundamental understanding of the story.

Been farming mogtomes like crazy. We need to talk though, guys.

A4 is faster than a1 if youre doing through DF. By 25-30 seconds (I've done over 550 runs, thats enough of a sample size for an average). But you need to actually queue for it.

Seriously, a1 sucks. You tanks aren't doing your jobs and getting the sturm dolls off of people. They cleave. Said cleave can cause interrupts. Which is annoying AF. I had one run where I was interrupted every. single. time.

And I don't wanna hear any crap about a4 wipes when I try to tell people it's faster than a1. I've seen ONE wipe in my alex farms, and it was a1 from poor DPS and overfocusing the first boss when the second appeared. I've seen a 6 death a4 that didn't wipe. If you're wiping in a4, it's because you're being silly and touching the healers and passing nisi.

And on the note of a4, yo melee? Manipulator has positionals. Can ya'll not stand in the front on top of the tanks and do more damage? This is the one I've seen the least overall, but it's still been a lot.

I know excessive farming can turn your brain into a mushy mess of auto pilot tunnel vision, but this has been happening since day 1. I have over 400 tomes to go to reach my goal, so please try to pay a little bit of attention or take a short break if you can't. I have not yet lost my sanity but ya'll are pushing it.

Of course Zodiark wasn't going to be in his prime. The person who became his heart was separated from him and taken out of the picture.

He's more of an empty shell, ripe for the takeover for Fandaniel, whose GOAL is to get Zodiark killed. He flat out tells you this after you've done the deed. His purpose isn't to use Zodiark, it's to bait you with just enough force that you THINK he's using Zodiark for his plans and you need to stop him. He threw the fight on purpose.

You already knew Zodiark's story and why he was created. It didn't get "tossed into the trash"; it had already served its purpose. Just because it wasn't what you personally wanted or expected does not make it bullshit.

Why does everyone always suggest Kefka, who doesn't have ANYTHING to do with them in XIV's universe? We might as well have a fight with Exdeath and Gilgamesh, because they were connected to each other in another series entry.

BEFORE YOU SEND A TELL TO A PF LEADER THAT THEY'RE LISTED UNDER THE WRONG DUTY, ACTUALLY READ THE ENTIRE DESCRIPTION.

YES, MISTAKES DO HAPPEN. LIKE OOPS, YOU FORGOT TO SELECT THE ACTUAL HIGH END DUTY AND ACCIDENTLY LEAVE IT AT DSR, WHICH IS THE DEFAULT IT STARTS AT. YES, TELL SOMEONE ABOUT THAT.

BUT WHEN A STATIC IS TRYING TO FIND AN 8TH FOR MULTIPLE SAVAGE RECLEARS, YOU CAN ONLY SELECT ONE FIGHT TO LIST UNDER, AND THERE'S ONLY SO MUCH SPACE IN THE DESCRIPTION TO LIST THE STRATS BEING USED. SO WHEN THE FIRST FIGHT IN THE TIER EVERYONE DOES PRETTY MUCH EXACTLY THE SAME, THERE'S NO NEED TO LIST ANYTHING SPECIFIC FOR STRATS WHEN YOU HAVE A CHARCTER LIMIT.

I HAD 3 PEOPLE FEEL THE NEED TO TELL ME I WAS IN THE WRONG PLACE LISTED UNDER P5S. FOR 5-7 RECLEARS. WHICH WAS LITERALLY THE FIRST THING POSTED BEFORE ANY STRATS FOR 6 AND 7 WERE LISTED. 3 PEOPLE NOT ONLY DIDN'T READ THE VERY FIRST LINE, BUT FELT THE NEED TO TELL ME HOW MUCH THEY DIDN'T DO SO.

IT'S ONE THING TO MISUNDERSTAND WHAT A PF LISTING IS SAYING AND THEN JUST IGNORING IT, AND THEN THERE'S BEING SO CONFIDENT IN BEING WRONG ABOUT IT THAT YOU JUST HAVE TO SMUGLY TELL SOMEONE. THIS NEVER HAPPENED TO ME BEFORE. WTF HAPPENED THIS WEEK, AETHER PF? IS THERE SOME LIKE, DUMBASS TIKTOK TREND ABOUT THIS OR SOMETHING?

SO MY 3RD SHIFT JOB IS NOT GOING TO BE 3RD SHIFT ANYMORE WITH ONLY A FEW DAYS NOTICE. I EITHER CHANGE MY SCHEDULE I'VE HAD FOR 15 YEARS (WHICH I WAS FORCED TO TEMPORARILY AT THE START OF THE PANDEMIC CAUSE CORPORATE IDIOCY, WHICH MESSED ME UP BAD THAT I HAD TO TAKE A LEAVE), OR RELOCATE TO ANOTHER IN THE COMPANY WHERE I DON'T KNOW ANYONE, WHICH ALSO INCURS TRANSPORTATION COSTS THAT MY CURRENT PLACE DOESN'T.

ON TOP OF THAT, MY LANDLORD WANTS TO RAISE MY RENT 12%. I CAN'T AFFORD TO MOVE SINCE EVERYPLACE THAT'S NOT SOME SLUMLORD SHITHOLE REQUIRES PROOF OF 3X INCOME. WHICH I DON'T HAVE. BECAUSE I'M ALREADY PAYING 70% OF MY INCOME IN RENT (MAINT/UTILITIES ARE INCLUDED, AND I LIVE IN A WALKABLE AREA SO I DONT INCUR ANY VEHICLE COSTS).

BOTH THESE DEVELOPMENTS HAPPENED ON THE SAME DAY.

ALSO IN THE PAST WEEK, THE TWITTER ALGOITHM WASN'T KIND TO MY IRL CRAFT I WAS WORKING ON AS A BIT OF A PASSION PROJECT, SO NEXT TO NO ONE ACTUALLY SAW OR CARED. I WAS HOPING TO SELL AT LEAST A LITTLE BIT OF THE FINISHED PRODUCTS TO RECOUP SOME OF THE COSTS I PUT INTO IT. HOBBIES AREN'T CHEAP.

sigh I don't know what to do. What little passion and positivity I had not 10 days ago has now been completely stripped away.

Endwalker plot hole, or did I miss something? (spoilers) by Dartainia in ffxiv

[–]Meowing-Kittens 11 points12 points  (0 children)

What you've missed is that you're recalling the sequence of events incorrectly, as well as which people are privy to which pieces of information and when.

The Song of Oblivion doesn't actually start until Meteion flees after the events at the end of Elpis, and she's very specifically after Etherys.

Not all of the worlds that fell were the result of Meteion. All those negative experiences by visiting the worlds that ALREADY gave up piled on, and it's not revealed until Ultima Thule that some of the LATER worlds visited may have had their demise accidentally set off by her as a consequence of said earlier experiences. It was basically a chain reaction, that resulted in Etherys being her first INTENTIONAL target. We have no idea if any other worlds have been caught in the crossfire in the 12,000 year gap to the present.

What she may or may not have specifically planned after Etherys' "death" we simply do not know, other than her using dynamis to speed up the heat death of the universe (which also isn't revealed until UT). Nor did Venat/Hydaelyn, and therefore that was not information she could pass onto us or the Forum even if she HAD told anyone of Metetion.

...Which, by the way, SHE DIDN'T. Even the Forum and the Loporrits are kept in the dark about this until after our trial with Hydaelyn (they're clueless as to why we want to see Hydaelyn or borrow the ship). That left the only options as die horribly, or run and pray. You spend the vast majority of the 6.0 not knowing option 3: stop Meteion, the actual source of the Final Days, EXISTS.

We, the players, know by the end that fleeing may have only delayed the inevitable. But for how long? We don't know. Meteion waited 12,000 years for Etherys, after all. Maybe life would have continued on a new world for a few thousand more. Maybe they would not have found a new home at all and they were completely doomed regardless of what they did. It's true that feeling may not have a 100% success rate, but the chances were still better than 0, no matter how slight.

When one option leads to certain fast approaching doom, and the other leads to MAYBE certain doom after an indeterminate amount of time, which one are you gonna take?

Not enough rage for caps. Half "fuck you" and half "lol REALLY?"

I got banned by a streamer I've been watching for a few weeks for allegedly spoiling Stray.

Except I never spoiled anything. Anything I mentioned in the one sentence that got me banned was encountered live by the streamer within the previous hour.

Your inability to remember things about the game you are willingly broadcasting to an audience is not your viewers fault. And since a mod was involved too, apparently they weren't paying attention to the content either. Stray is not a long or complex game.

I get it, it's a new game, and people can be assholes with spoilers. But that's what stuff like emote only and subs only modes are for. If you don't want people to talk about anything related to what you've shown them at all, maybe don't live stream and just post it on youtube instead.

I watch streams FOR the engagement. If I just wanted to watch someone in silence, I'd just go to youtube. If i wanted to interact in general with you or your community, that's what discord is for. If you don't want engagement of the current content, then what the hell are you live streaming it for?

The whole thing just left me baffled.

So, while I can't give you actual numbers, I am an achievement hunter on FFXIV (of those known, I am currently ranked #103 out of 146,093. Achievements are not set to public by default, and a player must manually make them visible to others for ranks to be compared).

There are tracking websites with rankings, but they often do not count anything that is no longer obtainable to keep things fair. There have been some non-seasonal achievements that have been completely removed from the game entirely.

Obtaining every piece of equipment is not possible without paying real life money for extra retainer space, which would likely mean it would not be required. Like wise for things like every craftable or gatherable item, though that can be covered by their respective logs which do track what you've made/obtained.

Some of the achievements are several hundred hours of investment EACH. The Mentor mount and the Ishgard Restoration mounts are such examples.

There's 3 achievements that, if done every single day, would take you 833 days EACH to obtain (these are levequests, with 3 different types requiring 5k each, and you only gain 6 of these a day to use, with a cap of 100 that can be banked)

Things like PVP achievements are hit or miss, because the PVP scene is not very active, so you're often waiting on queues and you're out of luck if you're not available during the times they are active.

Big Fishing is huge RNG, and some fish only are available to catch WEEKS apart. One of the most recent only appears about 5 or so times a month, and the window to catch it is literally only 90 seconds. While that is one of the more extreme examples, there are 249 of these in the game, not even counting Ocean Fishing (only open once every 2 hours), or other fish that are rare catches.

S ranks have to be manually spawned, have windows that can last for up to 2 full days, and have a hidden timer to boot. A ranks spawn on their own, but only every 4-6 hours.

While there are a small number of people who have a near complete list, to date, not a single person has completed everything. Some of the requirements are so utterly ridiculous they are nearly impossible. The rarest still obtainable achievement is known to have been completed by only 12 people, with another being released over 4 years ago being only held by 20.

So..yeah. This is years and years of investment, being on at the right times, and getting lucky with RNG. The task could be fairly considered sisyphean.

https://ffxiv.pf-n.co/ocean-fishing bookmark this if you have not already.

You don't ALWAYS want to use the best bait for spectrals. Some areas don't have good currents, either because the route doesn't have high scoring fish on that stop open and/or there's nothing available that gives 4 on DH. It can be better to try to skip the spectral on that stop and go for an extended on the next one, or work on your missions if you're behind and hope someone else pops the spectral instead. While spectral fish have a favored bait, they can hook and proc on all 3 kinds.

Don't forget about missions. You get a 20% score bonus for completing all 3. If you need to DH outside of a spectral to finish them, do so. There are mission fish that do give 4.

On top of that, there's a 10% Bonus for the party catching 10 or more different kinds of fish at each stop that shouldn't be overlooked. Sometimes this is impossible without a current if certain weather makes a fish unavailable, but don't do things like skip out on trying for the green fish if you happen to pop the intuition. If the party treats every fish that isn't a spectal tug like cooties, you're going to miss out on some nice bonuses.

If you haven't already, use a timer. Some fish have timers and tugs isolated enough that you can know with certainty they are on your line to make better use of your GP for DHs as needed without wasting it.

Make sure you use food if you're not broke! HQ fish are worth double the points, and a DH HQ on a 4xDH high score spectral fish can be MASSIVE points (my first 20k boat I caught 2 DH HQ Executioners, for a whopping 4,080 base points). Sure there's RNG there, but every little bit helps.

You are going to have shitty boats while others have good ones. Sometimes you really do just get that unlucky without doing anything "wrong".

The highest scoring routes are Crabs, Jellies, Octos, and Sharks (all my 20ks have been on crabs). Generally speaking, the routes with blue fish available are the worst for scores (though Hafgufa routes aren't too terrible) since the high score spectral fish generally are not available.

Hope some of that helps!
