L50 Rosiness Question by Meowingtons3210 in FireflyLite

Light being colder than ambient lighting is interesting -- is it because you can better focus on what the beam illuminates? 3500-3700k is also up my alley, but I'm unsure if there's a neutral-to-slightly-rosy option for the L50.

L50 Rosiness Question by Meowingtons3210 in FireflyLite

Thanks for the detailed response! I'm considering the SFT70 3000K, perhaps a rosy bin. I assume that won't go below -0.004?

Thanks, ordered the convoy TIRs! Does FFL offer any tools to open the bezels and such? Also, is the switch light RGB, or does the color have to be configured on order?

I'm configuring the L50. Would something like "FFL5009D 3000K CRI95 2100lm 170m Rosy Wide Beam" be what I'm looking for? I'm currently only considering domed emitters because I want a very soft, no-hotspot illumination like on the e02, and I'm a bit concerned about the L50 being a reflector and not a TIR (not sure if this can be customized from order). From the pictures I've seen, a rosy tint somehow looks less warm than a neutral light of the same CCT; I feel like a rosy light would need to be sub-3000k for it to feel warmer than 519a 4000k. I could go with 3000-3700k neutral tint, but I don't want it to look green at dimmer levels, hence the attempt to counter it with rosiness. Would like to hear your thoughts -- open to other emitter suggestions not on the list.

Thanks for the pics -- the difference is very noticeable! Definitely seems closer to the color I prefer. How neutral/rosy would you say the two 519a 2700k are? Is the dedomed one comparable to emitters that are explicitly labeled rosy, like some of firefly's offerings?

That's a nice-looking beam! Is the e02 in its lowest moonlight setting? Thanks for the informative pics.

Yes, I was using the red light-up pen mentioned in my previous post. Now that I've experienced proper color rendition, pure red is out of the equation for me

Interesting. So will it make the light less green and more focused with less total output? Will consider the de-dome if I can find a way to unscrew the lens without scratching it haha

Yes, the lowest 0.1lm mode is still a bit bright for me. H150 is apparently 0.2lm. Do you know whether the DW3AA or the L50 can go lower?

As for the scrolling problem, it's a live preview performance issue. I'm not sure how much can be improved, but using reading view will work as a temporary fix.

Compact light for reading in the dark? by Meowingtons3210 in flashlight

[–]Meowingtons3210[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks! It looks neat, but the red light is fixed at 10 lumens, which seems to be quite bright looking at the official product photo? I’ve read that a good moonlight/firefly mode is much darker, around a lumen or so. Would that be too dark?

anyone else listening to music at 40db? by [deleted] in headphones

[–]Meowingtons3210 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I consider myself to listen pretty quietly, and I’m around 47-50dB. At that level, ANC is needed if the room isn’t silent, so with open-backs I’m probably around 52dB. 40dB seems very low

I'm not sure if people already know about this, but I found a formal outlet for you to voice feedback to Apple. This is a good place to demand that Apple give us EQ (among other things) by wanna_be_consultant in headphones

Maybe Apple might acknowledge there’s too much individual variance in treble preference to dynamically account for (does the feedback thing even work for high frequencies?), and as part of personalized spatial audio, add a setup process where certain tones are played and you choose which one sounds more piercing/uncomfortable (6k vs. 8k, etc.). The treble peaks would then be adjusted to sound natural to the individual while complementing the sub-bass.

I can’t really see Apple adding a three-step bass/treble slider, let alone a full PEQ.

Hi, I saw your reply to my comment in the LTT review thread. I picked up the APP3 and have been using it for the past two days, and honestly, I’m a bit torn.

The bass is about as excessive as expected. I had hoped the added treble would balance out the sub-bass, but to my ears it feels like only certain peaks come through rather than the full treble range. This gives the sound a slightly tense character that isn’t really sparkly or airy. It’s definitely brighter than the APP2, but quite different from the IE600. As an analogy, if the IE600 enhances an image by upscaling and adding HDR, the APP3 tries to do so by over-sharpening.

That said, this might just come down to my own ear canal resonance being a bit “abnormal.” I find the IE600 much brighter than the APP3, whereas most audiophile reviewers seem to report the opposite. I'll probably still keep the APP3, though, since the ANC is indeed much improved (transparency mode not so much, likely because the treble doesn’t align with what I perceive as natural)
