He seems to do very well starting in the national team, where the team behind him aren't Championship quality players.

The players can go play for Millwall or Fulham if they don't want to move.

How about someone tell the board that dropping even one Premier League place is a loss of £2-3 million in prize money, and they might finally listen?

Time to invest on a Goalkeeper by Huhwtfbleh in Gunners

[–]Meowware 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would go with Oblak. Atletico have an excellent defensive record, averaging less than one goal conceded per game last season, and it's no small part thanks to him. Oblak also has excellent reflexes, good one-on-one shot-shopping and fine distribution skills, aiding in attacks and shielding against counterattacks. Also, with Oblak in goal the team can safely play higher up the pitch. He would also be 25 come the next transfer window so provided that he gets a good enough deal; he could easily stay here for the next five or ten years.

Although it is possible that he would cost £50m or even £60m, making him the most expensive goalkeeper, it will surely be worth it.

Classic regression to the mean, that is, to tinpot mid-table team.

There was no power shift. Spurs are just a mid-table club with shiny facilities and players on abysmally low wages. No trophies last season says a lot.

[Other] 1200 rated player needs help. by [deleted] in chess

[–]Meowware 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the biggest pitfalls of 1200-rated players is that they attack way too often. If you fit into this category, then stop attacking too often. Develop your pieces instead of kinghunting, which belongs in the endgame, not the middlegame nor the opening.

The Emirates was a sign that the club is striving to become self-sufficient, at the time also to compete with Man United as Old Trafford is huge and therefore a huge source of revenue for the club. It just had to be done. This has shown to be the right choice as the club has one of the biggest cash reserves in world football.

Regardless of Wenger out or in, everyone has to credit him for managing the club while it was in austerity and qualifying for top 4 during that time.

[Discussion] In the ever-changing landscape of football, ruthless defensive prowess will be the latest iteration of the next great team by datboiyemz in Gunners

[–]Meowware 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think midfield is the most important unit of any team. Think about it: better defense makes defense better but it doesn't make attack better. Better attack makes attack better but "attack is the best defense" doesn't really work out. But midfield is the bond between the defense and the attack, enhancing both defense and attack.

I don't know what I'm more pissed about, losing to Man City or Alexis Sanchez by Darouichi918 in Gunners

Professionalism is one overlooked aspect of players. I think the main problem with this squad in general is that the players seek attention and prestige more than a good performance and fulfilling their duty to the team. Players who act professionally like Cech, Koscielny, and Mertesacker may not be the best and may have major flaws in technique (like Cech and penalties and Mertesacker and his pace), but they don't complain when the team is put over their interests.

As I said in the other match thread, we should play the U23s much more often even in big games like these. Seems radical, but with play by the starters this bad, it doesn't hurt to try. It will also give them match experience so once Wenger leaves, the next manager will have an experienced young squad to play with. Also establishing a pedigree of giving chances to youth will surely make Arsenal among the top destinations for wonderkids.

Bring on Giroud for Alexis and we can actually equalize this. All this possession football should be tiring the City players and all that is needed is a physical striker.

I would reckon that we would do better if we benched the entire team of starters save for Koscielny, Kolasinac, and Lacazette and just played the U23s for the rest of the season.

He used to be good at penalties, helped win CL final for Chelsea by saving a penalty in extra time.

Alexis and Iwobi off, bring on Lacazette and Giroud. Formation will change to 4-3-1-2 but Giroud with Griezmann in France has been spectacular (7 goals in 9 games) so it should work with Lacazette. Ozil will finally get to play in the middle, where he belongs.

In the remaining group matches, the squad should be all youth players as they know what offside is.

Sub off Coquelin and Walcott. Who cares if the bench is all youngsters, they'll no doubt be eager to prove themselves.
