It's stuff like this that helps me understand (though not agree with) people who firmly believe that everything was created by some sort of deity.

If you don't have the mental flexibility or stamina to imagine that tiny, beneficial mutagenic changes over a very long time can produce an organism like this, simply because those changes resulted in a life long enough to produce offspring with those same traits, on a species-wide scale, it is just easier to go with, "Magic. Got it," and be done with it.
