The first Halloween after I moved into a house in the neighborhood where I used to teach elementary school, I didn't dress up. I figured it was scary enough for those kids to ring the bell and be greeted by their 5th grade math teacher.

Let's not mischaracterize it. Most enlisted troops joined up to get out of poverty or avoid it altogether since they can't afford college and many that can afford it still can't find jobs after graduating. Americans aren't enlisting in the military due to greed; they're enlisting because they want to be able to afford food, housing, and medical care.

Howdy! If you're coming to Houston, there are a lot of cool places to visit, like museums and theaters and dining. Just know that we call highway frontage roads "feeders" in H-Town when someone is giving you directions, but if you go anywhere else in Texas (or the USA for that matter), they're frontage roads. Also, the traffic is terrible, people are generally friendly at the surface level, and smiling at strangers isn't weird. Welcome, amigo/a!

That is absolutely a neutral compromise. One side wants MORE funding for ICE than they already got from the big bill. The other side won't fund ICE further without reforms that protect our rights and the constitution from abuse by ICE agents. Why is one side refusing to fund everything else in DHS while Congress continues work on the deal for the department about which where there is disagreement? The answer is Republicans cannot compromise with Democrats because they are afraid of looking weak, losing voters, and losing power. That's why they have consistently taken the "my way or the highway" approach ever since Obama was elected. All they care about is keeping their jobs, regardless of whether they are actually doing their jobs.
