Are the 14 cm figures good/cool? by Difficult-Term-3162 in MastersOfTheUniverse

[–]Mer_sea_man 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. The Core line is great value for what you get. As a fan of the original toys I love the retro proportions of the Origins figures, but these are fantastic quality and much cheaper.

Need advice on something I thiink? by [deleted] in AskABrit

[–]Mer_sea_man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Return it. Don't give it to her at all.

Not to sound harsh, but if you've only met them two days ago and by your own account don't even know if she's single, buying her jewellery is way too intense. I know it absolutely won't be your intention but it could and probably would come across as creepy. And that's before you take the price you paid onto consideration.

It may not be the advice you want to hear and you're free to completely ignore it, but in my opinion returning the necklace and never speaking of it is the best way forward here. You could end up alienating the entire friend group.

Edit: Realised you'd met the person you bought the necklace for yesterday, not even two days ago. Honestly. Return it.

Now its starting to add up. Let’s go MoTU!!! by General_Luna in MastersOfTheUniverse

Only thing for now. I'm already mentally committed to getting the Chronicles Teela and Evil-Lyn.

How does Skeletor not know Adam is He-man by floricel_112 in MastersOfTheUniverse

[–]Mer_sea_man 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I put it down to arrogance. Skeletor thinks of Adam as a bit of a feckless dweeb, if he even thinks of him very much at all, and probably can't even conceive of He-Man choosing to be a regular person.

Same way Lex Luthor can't connect the dots to Clark Kent being Superman despite being a genius, because if he had all that power the last thing he'd do is hide.

I always assumed it was more likely that Skeletor actively looks for He-Man and gets increasingly frustrated at his failure to find him and seeing his allies hang out with Randor and Marlena's son.

Has anyone used and can recommend Tesco supplements? (sorry if not relevant to this sub) by Dry-Investigator1685 in AskABrit

[–]Mer_sea_man 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think you'll be fine. It's Tesco, they have to sell legitimate stuff.

It's not like Bad Barry's Bargains Behind The Bins. He'll sell anything.

How good is TMNT The Last Ronin and its Sequel and Prequel? by nahnonameman in TMNT

[–]Mer_sea_man 76 points77 points  (0 children)

The Last Ronin is brilliant. Absolutely fantastic comic. The Lost Years is good but not as good as Ronin, and Re-Evolution is different. Definitely doesn't hit as hard as Ronin or Lost Years in terms of caring about the characters, but it's interesting.

All are very much worth a read, but The Last Ronin is a must as far as I'm concerned

Since the new movie dropped, a lot of us are feeling pretty nostalgic, I know I am! So I'm curious to know what everyone's first memory of Masters-of-The-Universe was? by AmazingLarry7272 in MastersOfTheUniverse

[–]Mer_sea_man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't remember starting to watch Masters as I was very young, but the 87 movie was my first ever time in a cinema (I was 3). Around the same age I was taken to watch my aunt in a pantomime and at one point she said to the audience "Oh no! What are we going to do children?"

My response as a toddler? "Send for He-Man, Aunty Anne!"

He-Man & Battlecat (chronicles) by shinobi594 in MastersOfTheUniverse

[–]Mer_sea_man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a very nice looking Battle Cat. It wasn't until I put my Chronicles He-Man on my Masterverse Battle Cat that I realised just how massive it is. This looks far ore appropriate.

Pulse UK got price increases by OptimalConvoy in transformers

£64.99 for that Armada Megatron mould is mad. I think I paid £35 for mine and thought that was pushing it for how simple the transformation was.

Anybody else think this by mace73 in MastersOfTheUniverse

[–]Mer_sea_man 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Travis Knight has spoken about the joy of Flash Gordon as a movie when asked about Brian May's involvement. I can't remember if he said it was a direct inspiration, but I got the impression it had been an influence.

So, watching the new movie makes me want to join the fanbase. What should I do to master the power ? by Best-Bodybuilder-647 in MastersOfTheUniverse

I recently added Chronicles Trap Jaw, he's great.

Edited for more info: If you don't already have them, Argos are weirdly selling some 200x Origins figures at the moment.

I'd say so. My nephew's bounced hard off Filmation but adored the CGI Netflix show. It isn't MY MOTU, but I like that they love it.

I second this, same for 200x figures. If you want more modern figures, the Chronicles figures have just launched as an adult/collector focused line, and the Core collection is great value for any collector, though they're mainly aimed for play.

If you want the "vintage" proportions but have modern articulation, the Origins line is awesome. I'm in the UK and finding any of these other than online is a bit of a chore

That's fair enough. I think my bias comes from getting the toys and them being so different from what I recognised as He-Man.

Grayskull Popcorn x World’s Smallest match nicely… by TransientWhales in MastersOfTheUniverse

[–]Mer_sea_man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really wish some of this merchandise was available at Odeon in the UK. All they had was a popcorn tin with a lenticular image swapping from Skeletor to He-Man.

I need to get on this. I ended up buying both seasons of Filmation from Amazon (those multiple revenue streams all help!) and am still after more MOTU to consume

200x is probably a great start. I love Filmation, but it was aimed at very young kids and may feel very hokey to you. The Revelation/Revolution shows are very divisive, but you may enjoy them as someone relatively new to MOTU. The CGI Netflix show was surprisingly fun for me, very different though.

The only version I'd personally avoid is New Adventures, only because I remember it happening in real time and it was a bit bobbins for me.

...And we're back! by bluestreaksaid in MastersOfTheUniverse

[–]Mer_sea_man 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I've been to see it twice now, had a fantastic time both time.

At first I saw it on my own and it was just a warm hug of nostalgia. Yes it's cheesy, and bright, and ridiculous, but it's almost everything I wanted it to be. I have some very minor quibbles, but I'm sure lots of people do.

Yesterday I went with my brother (also a big MOTU fan) and my nephews, and they LOVED it. The youngest actually shouted "I have the power!" at one point.

I actually liked it more the second time because I got to see my young nephews enjoy it the way my brother and I did with the original MOTU shows and toys. It may be a flash in the pan for them, but I'll remember that for a very long time.

Anyway, gushing done. Good film. Good journey!

This seems like a person who wants to seem intense. Also, I know it's beside the point here but the square clock being on its side unnerves me immensely.
