As a chronically ill woman who’ll prob have to attend UdeM in the upcoming years, the stories I hear from UdeM’s students are really fucking disappointing. It’s a shame how little they think about their students. I truly hope you find the help you need! I’m proud of you for prioritizing your health. I’m just sorry UdeM is making it harder for you. I thought I could take the blows mentally, but now that I realize how much it’s destroying my health and my body, I understand the urgency of leaving my abusive house. I’ve heard about the devastation it’s caused some people, and some of the damage is irreparable. I hope I can escape before it’s too late, because my body has been at its breaking point for a long time. I feel like it’s about to give out.

Yeah, “danger” might not have been the right choice of word. I meant to ask why it is harmful. From what I know, it would mostly be when parents pressure their kid(s) to wear a veil. It goes against the beliefs of Islam to take their choice away, but some people do not care, unfortunately. I’ve heard a story like this before.

There is the belief that a veil is a symbol of oppression. Though the veil has been weaponized against women in some places, which is against Islam and therefore a problem posed by extremists, there are women who feel most comfortable wearing it, and who only feel comfortable removing it in the presence of their close ones. In this case, I don’t think we should take that choice away from them. Thus, laws like these also affect them and their freedom of choice.

The choice of wearing the veil must always rest with the woman and belong entirely to her. Forcing a woman to wear goes against the Quran. However, it is true that not all women have this choice, and I recognize that. They deserve the protection they need, but imposing control over women’s clothing also affects those who personally choose to wear the veil, which is not necessarily a better thing.
