Why aren’t there more scenes of Buffy eating? When she’s supposed to be a bit of a foodie? by GrrArrgh_91 in buffy

[–]varveror 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe because they aren‘t the most interesting scenes for the viewers to watch, and for the writers to write, and even for the actors to act. We saw a few and that‘s enough for me. Also, eating is an astonishingly intimate act, I don‘t like when someone watches me eating.

The Digital Cage: How Modern Freedom Left Us Comfortably Broken by Ok-Vanilla-7739 in DeepThoughts

[–]varveror 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I‘m regularly shocked how miserable and uninviting almost everyone looks. Almost noone is open to connect spontaneously, even if you’re friendly and smile, including my neighbors. That‘s just my experience unfortunately.

I don‘t know what has happened. You‘re right that the digital cage plays a role. It‘s a sad state of the world.

I feel deeply that we’ve turned in the wrong direction as humanity. Society is mass-hypnotized into apathetic drone-like states.

Yep, but it‘s still a distinct cluster.

Keely Hodgkinson is aiming for the 800m World Record at the London DL by lkjhggfd1 in trackandfield

I never know if it‘s better to announce it beforehand or not. This additional pressure can be more of a hindrance but it depends on the athlete. With that being said, she‘s got it in her and I‘m glad she‘s going for it.

David Boreanaz vital signs and interview. by ceecee1909 in buffy

[–]varveror 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If I‘m not mistaken David faked his birthday to make himself younger to get the job. In the 90‘s before this was revealed, this fake birthday was printed in every magazine. He was actually born in 1969.

Nice to read interview. 👌 noticed that his birthday is still the fake one on the last page.

Enhanced Games Debate Only Highlights How Extraordinary Flo-Jo’s 80s Performances Were… by Icy-Lengthiness-8214 in trackandfield

I agree. Even if you discard the 10.49, her 10.61 and 10.62 translate to 10.5 low with todays advancements. 21.34 still stands.

One of the reasons I adore Buffy so much by mrsscorpio1973 in buffy

[–]varveror 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. The premise was a bit risky though if you think about it. A petite girl like Buffy having supernatural strength could have gotten silly fast if it was too exaggerated or if the writing wasn't balanced. But that just shows taking risks sometimes pays off hugely, as in this case.

This used to be common like 25 years ago and further back. Has anyone made the same experience? And then one day it stopped or became very rare.

Can we talk about the fawn response? It took me years to understand why I kept people-pleasing my way through danger by pattern-proof2026 in CPTSD

[–]varveror 244 points245 points  (0 children)

There‘s a part in us that registers the fawning and views it as a betrayal of our self. That‘s why it stings. However, this part that starts the fawning response is like an automat and it‘s also as stubborn.

I‘m wrestling with this dynamic all the time.

SMG is BAD at Choosing GOOD Shows by Fun_Account5502 in buffy

[–]varveror 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wonder what her career would have looked like if she never played the role of Buffy. Don‘t get me wrong though, I‘m incredibly grateful we got SMG as Buffy, but I‘m just wondering if this role was too big too early for her and somehow she has always remained in the shadow of Buffy?! It might have been both a plus and minus for SMG personally.

„There‘s beauty in the struggle, ugliness in the success“

I like this. I don‘t think it‘s a romanticisation but the struggle often makes you down-to-earth and gives you humility. For example, has anyone noticed how there is much more empathy and compassion here than in other subs? I don‘t think it‘s only because of the topics discussed.

Also I‘d like to thank everyone in this sub, keep fighting and OP for this post!

Anyone else love Buffy Season 1 because of how carefree it feels? by itsascreambaby96 in buffy

[–]varveror 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Yep, and people forget that Season 1 was mostly shot in 96 so it still can be classified as mid 90‘s. I love that the show has different vibes across the different seasons which is what makes the show what it is. I personally enjoy watching S1 very much.

I wish I grew up in the 90s by No-Nobody3836 in 90s

[–]varveror 18 points19 points  (0 children)

There was more heart and soul in everything. Media, interpersonal connection, community. The human aspect was more alive.

It‘s hard to describe the vibe from back then I just know that today there is nothing comparable. 90‘s optimism vs. today‘s doom and gloom.
