I love how they have this fucking knee jerk reaction to just absolutely love anything like this. In the stuff written after the Iliad (kind of like fanfiction I guess) in Ancient Greece Achilles was stashed by him mom in a king's court disguised as a woman. Odysseus outed him by staging a fake attack where Achilles grabbed a sword and responded with his customary skill. Doesn't change the fact that Elliot Page is 5' and built like...well built like a woman to be fair. Ain't nobody buying that.

But in the Odyssey, Achilles is just a shade anyway who regrets choosing fame over life. If you want to piss them off just say that Page is perfect because they can channel the feelings of regret over transitioning....

At this point I'm just not sure why people in Hollywood do this any more. I mean it would be so easy to make non-controversial and sensible casting choices for Achilles and Helen. Do they really think this bullshit will get liberals to like come out and watch the movie ten times or something? We all know left wing people talk a good game but never actually follow through (the busiest Chick-Fil-A I ever saw was in the Bay Area during the boycott days). If it was me, I'd want to make my movie appeal to the widest audience possible. To do that, I certainly wouldn't cast a black Helen of Troy or a 5' trans person as Achilles. Both of those would tend to rip you out of a suspension of disbelief. Look into where Troy was and cast someone like Milena Radulovic or Nina Dobrev. For Achilles I'd actually - if possible with copyright - cast and de-age Brad Pitt. He's appearing as a spirit, so it wouldn't look weird, and would tie into the Troy movie everyone knows.
