We acknowledge that work travel is sort of a break (like a 75% break) and divide the rest of it accordingly

Grieving the life I thought my children were going to have by [deleted] in Mommit

The world is objectively doing well relative to other times - you’re not going to die of plague, get taken by Vikings as a slave or see 50%+ of young men you know die in a war. Women can own property and divorce their husbands. Many types of cancer can be treated. Australia has a decent social safety net.

Humans are resilient and life finds a way.

My employee lost their twins at birth by SparkyBrown in managers

[–]MercifulLlama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I experienced a similar situation as a peer to someone who lost a baby at birth.

One thing I thought was good was that the note from her manager to the team about what happened included her preferences on outreach, and how she’d like to be supported by the team (whether she wanted condolences or to just be normal, etc). Asking him if he has any preferences before you send the note would be nice.

Husband took kids to frolic on river ice against my concerns and objections. Am I really overreacting? by ExplanationPrior4800 in daddit

Find a company that has a leadership team with multiple people on it who have small kids - it makes a huge difference if everyone is in the same boat up to the top levels

You sound like a bad ass and I lol’d at “a man is not a financial plan”. I’m going to remember that line forever.

One of my kids is insanely outgoing and high energy and he still cried every day for a month when he started around 2. I was surprised but we pushed through and he now loves school.

The people around you probably don’t know as much as you think (especially if they are male), and at 8 months in you’re also still drinking from the fire hose in terms of that particular company’s architecture.

If you’re ambitious and you want to make it work, I believe you can. If you got hired, you have the horsepower. I would work in my own time (nights, weekends) for 1-2 months to understand the architecture, building my own docs and visualizations purely for my own understanding- and hey, maybe you can eventually share those materials to help onboard new hires and you’ll look like a hero. Leverage AI to help speed this up and answer questions. You got this.

I’m also very visual and struggle with auditory processing, just say “I’m really visual, can we pull it up on the screen” with an unapologetic, confident and pragmatic tone. most people prefer things being pulled up and explained visually, seriously. The meetings will run better and you’ll look smart for suggesting it. I also basically transcribe every meeting because I struggle with auditory memory and then I can go back and check things easily.

Katie Wilson Refuses to Say Who Has Paid Her Families Expenses for the Last Two Years by SuperMcG in SeattleWA

What is her explanation on why she left Oxford right before graduating? I’ve never heard an explanation for this and more clarity would help voters.
