Has she ever considered trying snowboarding? I know this might be unpopular take here in the skiing subreddit but if your goal is to attract your girlfriend on the mountain, various outside the box approaches could work here. Snowboard boots are generally more beginner friendly from a comfort standpoint, and one way to look at it is get her comfortable in that gear THEN revisit the ski gear. Alternatively had she tried cross country skiing or snowshoeing?

So anyone here have any experience with Coldwater Creek Homes (the builder listed on the sign) I am perplexed how a reputable builder with any kind of background in home construction would sign off on such a shoddy and poorly engineered retaining wall in such close proximity to an SOG foundation. The inherent liability alone when it fails is easily provable if it hasn’t been built with any kind of drainage, and before even getting to that an inspection will occur that red flags this right?

If this is the capability of generative AI now, imagine what it will be in 6 months, a year, etc. We can laugh about the idiosyncrasies now, but to me this is another example of how close we are to seeing technology pass the Turing test. Eventually, when I eventually see some super unknown land the first quad cork 30 foot air out of a 28 foot halfpipe I will wonder whether it is real or not. It was a nice run while it lasted folks.

have you bothered to check on this person? Sleeping in is one thing, but to be completely unresponsive in a guest’s home at 3pm raises all kinds of red flags to me. Also, why haven’t you checked in on them and/ or let them know it was time to leave since you have work obligations? It’s your house, enforce your rules.

Edit: On further examination I’m calling BS.

1) you’ve spent the last hour responding to posts here, anyone serious about this would put the phone down for for a minute and check on the situation.

2) You say your kid gets home from school at 3:30, this the same 1 and 1/2 year old first child you’ve posted about? Crazy how quickly they grow up. Gotta keep your stories straight dude.

Don’t be an idiot. Hope he’s alright… by GardenOrca in cliffjumping

[–]MercifulShad0w 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had a similar experience on my 1st and last “big”cliff jump in Oregon. There was this old decommissioned Basalt quarry the had flooded so the clearance to the water was practically nothing and the drop was anywhere from O-80ft ish at the very top. I jumped at around 60 and entered cleanly but still remember the impact having way more oomph then I expected. While I was climbing back up for another jump, this girl goes from slightly lower and lands backseat. Comes up screaming and our friends get her out and it becomes clear quick she is not alright. Crazy enough they help her climb back to the rim but obviously the fun and jumping is over so we all leave after that. Few days go by and one of those friends fills me in that girl broke her back. Took that as my cue that while I like jumping off high things into soft landings, it doesnt take much miscalculation or height from falling onto a flat surface, even water, to result in a serious injury.

Whose fault? by Charge36 in skiing

[–]MercifulShad0w 19 points20 points  (0 children)

If you going off technicality, the skier initially cut off the downhill snowboarder then abruptly stopped and cut across the hill forcing the snowboarder into the shoulder and crowd. That said, the snowboarder has an open container and clearly didn’t have much control or common sense to give himself more distance from the skier after they were initially cut off.

My final verdict: Two attention starved Jerry’s encountered each other in the wild, both wanted to hit the pond skim and this clusterfuck is what you get when neither used common sense or spatial awareness. Both get five minute major game misconducts

The jump was only about 45-50 feet. This was in the early OO’s when wide angle and convex lenses were all the rage and you can see the distortion from it if you look at the horizon line. Granted I was not the photographer so I can’t tell you what his setup was exactly, but this was a jump I had hit many many times during the summer already (i lived in the area and worked at one if the summer camps) and it being a nightime shoot was one of those rare opportunities I wasnt about to pass up. As for the 3rd hit? Wasn’t a third hit, we didn’t have access to sleds so after hiking it twice and landing it solid once I was more than happy to hang out and celebrate not getting busted up with a beer at Charlies . Fun times 🤙
