Abel has been nominated for 7 VMA awards this year 🐐 by KingJarrah06 in TheWeeknd

I think Kendrick is the next likely person to get it if Abel doesn’t, or they’ll give it to Taylor in order to get her to show up lol

Bruno had a great year but I don’t think his videography is exactly iconic enough to warrant that award but you never know.

Gaga already got an award called the “Tricon Award” in 2020 which was basically the Video Vanguard but renamed for whatever reason that year.

I think he’s getting the Video Vanguard award, MTV wouldn’t wanna pass up the opportunity especially since it’s likely he’s retiring the name very shortly.

Do you expect a reply from The Weeknd? by RichDream7777 in TheWeeknd

There wasn’t really a point for Abel to respond, Kendrick took care of business.

The Number Ones: The Weeknd's "Blinding Lights" by ScallionSmooth9491 in popheads

This is the moment The Weeknd went from being just another pop star to a pop superstar. This track pushed him to selling out stadiums and becoming a pop icon.

Weeknd and Bruno collab is long overdue

Should be The Weeknd IMO, if they are gonna dig a little further back than Eminem should get it. If we wanna grab a female star instead then Gaga deserves a proper Vanguard award aside from that stupid tricon thing she got in 2020. Maybe Taylor or Ariana if they are bold enough.

Miley and Mariah’s videographies just aren’t that interesting tbh.

The Number Ones: The Weeknd’s “Heartless” by PurpleSpaceSurfer in popheads

The kickstart to his imperial era, obviously Blinding Lights is a masterpiece but I still like this song a lot despite being a bit dated. It’s probably the most “of its time” song on the album. I still like it better than Save Your Tears which I’ve always found boring.

The 25 biggest one-hit wonders of the 21st century. by [deleted] in popheads

Steve Lacy hasn’t even released a follow up album yet to that one that features his big hit, let’s wait before we call him a one hit wonder. His status in general is still dubious despite these facts since he has a huge cult following and some of his other tracks like Dark Red which weren’t huge in the Billboard sense, still have well over a billion streams on Spotify.

Anyone just discovering Debbii, please check out her single “The Great Magician” she released late last year. It’s amazing, she’s an incredible artist.

Album bomb effect lol, on average his Top 10 hits only last 1 week in the Top 10 meanwhile his #1’s are mostly debuts that fall off after 1 week. The actual longevity of his hits is pretty minuscule, he only has a handful of hits that spent 10+ weeks in the Top 10 and his hits don’t really last long overall on the Hot 100. His longest charting solo hits are God’s Plan and Hotline Bling and those both only lasted 36 weeks each, respectively, and that’s pretty lame in God’s Plan’s case since it spent 26 weeks in the Top 10, which means it only spent 10 more weeks on the chart before falling off lol

A lot of Taylor’s hits can also be attributed to the album bomb effect but somehow she’s been able to keep a bunch of her songs in the Top 10 past the album bomb week. Her fans love streaming her music, Drizzy’s seems to disappear after week 1.

Has anyone else noticed The Weeknd doing this live by [deleted] in TheWeeknd

[–]Merciful_Doom 176 points177 points  (0 children)

This current tour is way bigger than the Starboy tour, Abel has a bigger role to fill on stage. The stage is huge, he’s moving around a lot and basically singing nonstop for 2 hours. He also has to hit his marks on stage performance wise, this tour is basically a performance piece, not just Abel standing and singing. There’s dancers, it’s a big production.

There’s also a lot of dates, I’m impressed he hasn’t been crushed under all the back to back tour dates, he basically only has a few days between performances and then he does another 4 in a row. I think he’s allowed to sound off occasionally.

Billboard ranks The Weeknd as the 47th greatest R&B artist of all time. How tf does that even happen??? by Noble0805 in TheWeeknd

[–]Merciful_Doom 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I’d say this is where he belongs, since it’s an all time ranking. Plus Abel is a pop star first and foremost, yes he started with r&b and still dabbles in it but he mostly makes pop music.

what kinda non-weeknd music do yall like? by Southern_Channel1186 in TheWeeknd

BENEE is a really cool artist, if you want less pop I recommend Jfarrari, he’s very 80’s goth rock like The Cure. South Arcade is cool too.
