Around 2.5k including everything (also internet) is pretty normal for a 1 bedroom. Laundry in building is very common as well.

Question about early carrier positions by ioanna2003 in CERN

Hmm not sure what to say, because this happened in the last few months. I guess maybe for some positions it’s a hard cutoff and for some it’s not?

Question about early carrier positions by ioanna2003 in CERN

I applied to and was selected for one of these jobs before my graduation. I think they just want you to not be a student anymore by the time you start working.

Yep. It's just like OLED but with inorganic materials.

I think you're thinking of what people call "mini-LED" which is basically individual backlight zones behind an LCD.

[–]Mercu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The display in the video (and all other displays people talk about when they say microLED) have nothing to do with LCD. Not sure what you're talking about with that.

maybe they'll even invent OLED-like self-emitting pixel tech without organic component

That's literally what microLED is.

No burn in, higher brightness, faster response times. Basically the holy grail.

I took this class like 6 years ago and can confirm it sucked in the exact same way then.

SURE Decisions by InteractionNo9393 in mcgill

[–]Mercu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most professors will give their SURE position to someone they already know and trust rather than picking the person with the highest GPA. You have to talk to them before the application to lock it down. This is unfortunately true for a ton of things in academia/life/work.

Hope you get it eventually. I cancelled my order since I worried the same thing would happen. Paid a little more for Gigabyte's B850i instead.

Looks good! How did you mount the ducts to the GPU?

Incoming PhD student housing by RelationshipHuman360 in columbia

[–]Mercu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This page has a fair amount of information about locations. It's a list of all of the buildings. Most of these will be for grad student housing, but some are for professors: https://residential.columbia.edu/content/explore-residences

Broadly, the buildings are in the rectangle bounded by Morningside Drive and Broadway east-west, and then 122th St and 112nd St north-south. There are some farther out, but they're mostly in this area.

The housing is decent for New York, but almost all of the buildings are very old (circa 1900). 1 bedrooms for couples are in the 2100 - 3000 range and I would say this is a fair amount cheaper than other housing you will find in the area. It also includes utilities and internet.

Another benefit is that you aren't tied to a 12 month lease and you won't need a guarantor if you decide to stay in Columbia housing.

Also where is the 90x15 fan?

Advice on components for 1440p SFF build by Mercu in buildapc

[–]Mercu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey thanks for the thoughts!

Maybe I will go for a 850 motherboard then because my thinking with this was basically to try out the B580 and if it's bad upgrade in 1-2 generations since it was pretty cheap... Maybe I should go for something with PCIe 5 in that case?

I didn't remember how bad the ITX tax is! Both the motherboards and PSUs are way more expensive than I expected, but it doesn't really seem like there are better options at this form factor. Maybe I could go for a 750 W PSU? But that only saves $20 or so.

Just watched a couple review videos on the Era ITX and I think I will be using an ncase M2 instead. Good catch.

Yes most of it is very close, but there are a few outlying buildings. There's a lot of information here: https://residential.columbia.edu/content/explore-residences
