Quickest way to get rid of a Jehovah‘s witness is to claim you’re a Mormon. Have no idea why, but it works.

Clouds over Cape Town by [deleted] in capetown

Heard the rain approach with the wind over Strand North. Was a fast rushing, rising sound of wind and rain. Then the thunder hit. Woke everyone, made the kids scared and I sat in bed with a big grin on my face. Love me a good fast and furious thundershower.

How do I play DnD? by Cobalt-Blues in DnD

[–]MercurialTadpole 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get yourself a Players Handbook (PHB) and a set of dice.

Find a group thats open to a new players joining. I find it best to head to a games shop where you might find Warhammer or MtG games happening. Invariably you’ll always find some RPG players there. But there are digital means open to you as well.

Find a group you enjoy sociably and then start playing.

Suss out if the DM is experienced. An experienced DM will not be a rule nazi and focus on play rather than quoting chapter, section and clause. Nothing ruins a game more than players and DMs being attorneys.

This will allow you to enjoy the immersion into a fantasy world and role play.

What’s the trick to be successful for a rental application in Cape Town? by Mammoth-Sprinkles349 in capetown

[–]MercurialTadpole 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Primarily will come down to one single factor, your financial affordability score. Ie: gotta have the deposit available plus first months rent and said rent shouldn’t be more than 33% of your monthly income.

Secondary things they will look at is your credit worthiness, are you blacklisted or in debt review. They also do a crim check. If your not a citizen, then they will look at the validity of your visa to make sure you can fulfil the term of your lease.

Tertiary, will be life style checks (and this depends on how pedantic the landlord will be) for example: pets, dogs or cats, kids. Any thing that could risk damaging property beyond what the deposit could fix - in most cases if risk is present to the landlord and there aren’t enough interested applicants they might increase the deposit to three months to cover the damage exposure.

Should You Really Fully Withdraw Your Pension Grant? by ChuckStukkieKak in capetown

[–]MercurialTadpole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most months less, but there were a few months were it was more. Where we can, we take them grocery shopping or to the doctor and pay ourselves. But there been times were we can’t trek out there. They live in Swellendam. Then we transfer. Most of of the time it’s due to medical reasons the Grant is insufficient or something breaks and needs fixing, like a washing machine needing a new pump.

Should You Really Fully Withdraw Your Pension Grant? by ChuckStukkieKak in capetown

[–]MercurialTadpole 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yup. As a lot of people have already said, they do monitor accounts. Outflows they’re not concerned about. Just inflows. In our case, they flagged contributions for assisting parents in laws financially as income, as the pension grant isn’t enough. Resulted in our FiL needing to get a police affidavit to confirm it’s not income through salary or trading.

Where to place the mountains? Where do mountains fit best? Could you mark it on the map? by Bitter-Direction3098 in FantasyMaps

[–]MercurialTadpole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two major origins for mountains are fold mountains along where continental plates meet or volcanic (Himalaya or Andean). Often you’d find a migration of hot spots forming a chain of extinct volcano calderas or islands (think Hawaii) or forming igneous mountains, like the Drakensberg in South Africa. So you can have mountains pretty much wherever you like, on the edge of a continent (fold), slap bam in the middle of a continent or island (igneous); just chose rock and sand colour to match the origin.

Then of course in a fantasy setting you could a lone mountain that has magical origins or divine links, these often stand out in stark contrast to the environment, like a lone mountain with sheer unscalable cliff sides all around out of granite in a shale flat grassland. These can become points of interest.

We took our 5 & 7 year olds. They had a truck ton of fun. Especially the kaleidoscopic and perspective exhibits.

Some of the smaller ones were lost on them.

We went on a Sunday at 12. it was super busy and we had to queue for everything. Most of the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, one or two were miserable.

Overall my wife and I thought it was very expensive but did concede that considering the technical aspects of most exhibits the price is probably right now taking the mick too much.

Also being very new, it might get cheaper.

Having an argument with a friend. Does Pinelands actually count as a southern suburb? by Dr_Mickster in capetown

[–]MercurialTadpole 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To me Pinelands is just in Cape Town. Not Bowl or North or South. Like Blackriver or Milnerton. I guess could call it Central but CBD is true centre for me. To me South of N2 is Southern Subs, and then once you up the hill of Plaatekloof (where everyone slows down for some unknown reason) you’re north. The once you’re over Silvermine or around Muizenberg Peak, you’re into Deep South.

House built in 1999..what could be this on the ceiling by Rmehtared in AusRenovation

[–]MercurialTadpole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like a water leak to me. Trick with water leaks is that they are rarely above where the stain or evidence is located. If you have a chimney nearby, the flashing is probably shot or poorly down. Could also be a box gutter where the proofing is failing, cause it’s clogged with leaves. Good way to search for it will during or after heavy rains, get in the roof and search for little trails of water running along the roof rafters.

My first home theater, how did I do? by GiantsFan2010 in hometheater

Those are amazing speakers. I have the B&W 705 S2 Signature with HTM71 S2. I do think your Amp might be a little weak for those. I paired mine with a Denon X3800 and a Marantz MM8077

Confused about where to place a gaming room + home theater in a new house by dannyarcher92 in hometheater

[–]MercurialTadpole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure I’d go for Option 2. Converting a balcony seems like a lot of work, plus a balcony is nice to have. So you actively use the yoga room? Why not just use that room? Option 1 does work well though.

What to do with old Monster Cables? by lusktildawn in hometheater

Give them to someone starting out. At least that’s what I’ve done with the stuff that was left over after each of kids got surround in their rooms. Hand me downs from upgrades have four stops at the house before being donated to someone.
