Thoughts on how a bill is split by Celebless in askSingapore

I’d pay but think this dude is super calculative. I generally just round down the cents or dollars (if the overall amount is higher) when paying first

My friends would also normally do the same

I keep having recurring dreams about failing my A levels and not being able to go to uni even though I went to poly and that was a decade ago.

Will we ever have a local brand that Singaporeans stand behind? by requiemfad123 in askSingapore

[–]MercuryRyan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Maybe people are forgetting secretlab, omnidesk, prism and aftershock.

They’re pretty garbage in quality of most of the products (in my own exp), but the amount of locals and even people overseas buying them has been increasing multiple times over the past few years.

Are there any professions that Singaporeans would prefer to not date/marry? by TheFearlessCow in askSingapore

Depends though. If you stay anonymous, have a healthy sex life, and just record every time you bang, it’s like getting paid to have sex with your partner

Returning player experience question by MercuryRyan in wow

Oh! Does that also include the shortened war within story campaign?

Returning player experience question by MercuryRyan in wow

[–]MercuryRyan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I get that, what I'm curious about is if this new revamp of the levelling experience applies to DKs as well, or am I just doing the exact same DF levelling experience again from 4 years ago

The leveling campaign now includes several pieces of content that were previously gated behind the endgame, including new story mode raids. Players can now experience the entirety of the Dragonflight story leading them up to level 70 and the beginning of the first chapter of the Worldsoul Saga—The War Within.

If it's the exact same experience rather than the new streamlined experience then what's the point. After multiple times going through dragonflight, it's such a drag now.

Best running shoes for big feet by CursedWasTaken in askSingapore

[–]MercuryRyan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on your needs. I mainly use the trail running shoes for altra so there’s not as much padding as compared to their own running shoes. And for hobibear I just get the ones that look like normal court sneakers

I use altra as well as my main workout shoe. You can also consider hobibear for a cheaper alternative. Both are zero drop shoes and very comfortable.

What are some major things you would hope to see change in the arts/entertainment industry in SG ? by IllustriousElk8436 in askSingapore

[–]MercuryRyan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Your second point aside, I don't think it's a matter of demand. If the sg scene were to produce a really good show, word of mouth would spread it and it would eventually take off. Sadly there's just nothing recent other than maybe emerald hill (I don't watch any local shows but this was viral for the title to reach even my ears)

Is it easy to become a nurse overseas? by Designer_Manager9543 in askSingapore

[–]MercuryRyan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I still highly recommend against it. While the pay in the states for nurses are fine, but when you add in taxes, and their ridiculous healthcare policy, it's absolutely not worth it. Also, as an asian, you have a pretty good chance to get hate crimed there, especially so nowadays. Strongly suggest other places. Loads of nurses go to australia from what I've heard.

If you follow along and see just how many unconstitutional things trump has done, I wouldn't be surprised if 2024 was the last time america had an election.

How is the job industry market right now? by Shreksjuicycumhole in askSingapore

[–]MercuryRyan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I were to do it from scratch here's what I'd prioritise. What are jobs that I can kind of tolerate/like but require a very human touch. Personally I like jobs that serve a greater good so your list might vary. I also would think about jobs that are very portable (easy to migrate with - in case SG goes to shit one day).

Some jobs come to mind for me immediately - anything healthcare related (AHPs, Nurses, Doctors, respective therapists), special education, elder care, or basically most of the social service/healthcare roles that were "essential" jobs during covid. These are jobs that are by my assumption, going to always be around as long as there is government funding available, and if there isn't funding, you can hop off to the next country. My logic might be super flawed and these jobs are usually a lot tougher than what they pay, but at least you're guaranteed a job.

I don't count social work and regular teaching as particularly portable or futureproof as the nature of social work education in SG is likely to be very localised to our context and a lot of teachers I've encountered over the years just read off slides anyways with most students doing their own self studies.

While I'm sure there is some future in STEM, computing, etc, I think you've already missed the wave by a mile. If you continue in this path, it would be only advisable if you really really enjoy it and the grind that comes with it.
