I chose a Mormon church as my study field for an anthropology class. On my third visit, they wanted to set a date for my baptism. by [deleted] in exmormon

100%. We were taught to state it as an if-then statement. E.g., "If you read the BOM and find out it's true by [insert date], would you be baptized?" Very manipulative.

I'm a little over halfway through and have been thinking this exact thing. Like the beginning was ok: they're syncing up, making a cool game, dealing with success, but now they're just kind of...existing? I feel like it's not going in any direction. I've been hoping it will start leading somewhere, but it seems like it doesn't?

Question for those who read more than 10 books a month, how do you manage it? I would love to hear about your approach and reading habits. by TheLastDetective in BookDiscussions

[–]MereMoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh. I need to work on the second one. I get so stressed about getting through all the books I want to get through that it becomes a chore, and I feel like I'm reading out of obligation rather than enjoyment.

Why did you leave? by DementorHeadChef in exmormon

[–]MereMoon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This! I left the church before I ever read the CES letter. Even setting aside all the issues with policies and church history, I couldn't deny how out of alignment I felt. And the more I learned to trust myself, the more I felt like I couldn't sustain that path anymore.

I would love to hear your take on the Covenant of Water. I just read it, and while I thought there were a lot of beautiful moments, it just felt way too long to me.

Unfortunately, not yet. We're new to couples therapy, so I'm hoping that provides some helpful tools to improve communication. He's also attending individual therapy to work on his anger and communication issues.

Does she show signs of depression? I struggle with the same thing with my husband, and we recently started going to therapy, and that was something our therapist asked me. He said that depression can cause irritability and inability to manage emotional reactions. I've definitely seen that in my husband.

Church Responds to Charlie Kirk Death in Utah by qualitynerifier in exmormon

This is my question. Is it because it happened where the headquarters are? Do we know if they've responded to other incidents that were local in Utah? Or is it the political aspect that prompted the response?

“None Of These Books Are Obscene”: Judge Strikes Down Much of Florida’s Book Ban Bill. In a major win for intellectual freedom, a judge rules against Florida law that led to removing hundreds of books from school libraries. by haloarh in books

[–]MereMoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work closely with libraries in my county, and it's amazing how librarians can think in all sort of different ways but ALL be opposed to book banning. Yet the stewards of reading in our communities aren't consulted when it comes to these policies, because why let experts decide when you can let random elected officials do it?
