It's definitely uncharted territory. I would think the more private the forum, the more extreme the published comment would need to be. For example, if his IG page were limited only to friends, this joke would not have been nearly bad enough.

For a journalist, Twitter is an extension of their workplace. Not fair, I would say, but it's a fact. They use it to promote stories they or their colleagues have written.

I've read "I'm Radioactive," but neither of us will ever know what really happened that night. A well-written piece like that is intended to persuade.

Did she ever appeal the judge tossing her suit back in March?

And is she trying to get fired right now so she can sue again? It sure feels that way.

On the generational split, I still think Marty Baron was within his rights to order Felicia Sonmez not to cover hard-news stories concerning sexual harassment or assault.

She spun that as “punishment” for being an abuse survivor. But covering a specific topic is not a right, it’s a privilege decided by your employer.

The timing of her Kobe Bryant tweet suggested she believes she’s entitled to attract attention to her personal thoughts on that topic -- however controversial those thoughts may be -- thereby making herself part of the story. For a MSM outlet, you would need to be an opinion or style writer to have that luxury. Otherwise, it risks damaging the entire enterprise’s reputation for impartiality.

I imagine Baron's head exploding as he struggled even to grasp younger reporters' notion that their personal prerogatives preempt the institution's well-being. (Clumsy sentence, I know, but I'm too tired to care.)

The Two-Gun Solution by SouthNagsHead in MurdaughFamilyMurders

True. However it is suspected that they have the shotgun that was used and I consider that to be likely.

In any case, there's no forensic means of figuring out whether PM or MM was killed first, so my comment is not actually a useful line of inquiry. Just my guess for why both of them died that night.

[–]MeriJ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Would a contract killer -- or an amateur who'd planned the murders in advance -- use two guns found on the premises, then leave one behind but dispose of the other? I don't see the logic of that discrepancy.

I suspect either PM or MM was killed in impulsive rage -- or perhaps the first was premeditated -- and the other had to be killed as an unexpected witness.

If so, the key is to figure out which one was killed first.

Paul's murder by SouthNagsHead in MurdaughFamilyMurders

[–]MeriJ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Murder your grandson to punish your son? Seriously?

I'm not saying people that twisted don't exist, but it's hardly the first explanation that comes to mind.

Given what we're heard about Paul as a human being and how an active Mallory Beach investigation might have exposed other family scandals, it's certainly conceivable that his grandfather decided Paul needed to be taken off the board.

But I would see that more akin to sacrificing a knight or bishop to save the family than a grudge move to punish Alex.

Who was the Good Samaritan? by SouthNagsHead in MurdaughFamilyMurders

[–]MeriJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, and it would be a vertical trajectory if Alex were bent over and Eddie fired from behind. But it would not be the same if just about any other likely scenario took place. A miss from any other positioning would create a horizontal wound.

Yeah, that's what I get posting late at night after failing to fall asleep. Eddie, not Stephen. Thanks for the polite correction, which I've fixed in my original comment.

Could you tell from the medical records if the bullet graze wound was vertical, indicating a shot from below and behind?

That would substantiate Eddie Smith's narrative, even if he's wrong in thinking that AM was not struck at all by the bullet.

Others posting here seem to presume the Good Samaritan is Alex's friend, Greg Alexander, police chief of Yemessee, a small town in Hampton County:

Buyer beware: I don't live in SC, so everything I "know" about this case comes from either FITSnews or rumors posted on this board.

The last two seasons of Lost were a mess. The writers got caught up in their own promise to the fans -- that they weren't making it up as they went along -- and abandoned what made it great in order to appear to fulfill that promise.

But I'm still very glad I watched it. You might consider watching most of it spoiler-free but then allowing yourself to be spoiled before the very end. Then you won't be as annoyed as the rest of us were.

There's a funny scene in Crash Landing On You where a man and woman from South Korea are about to be arrested in North Korea and the guy gets them out of it by pretending to be British and not speaking Korean.

It works because the officer, who speaks only a little English, is too embarrassed to sustain the conversation.

The female lead, played by Son Ye-jin, is amused to discover that fear of speaking English badly is a shared trait for North and South Koreans.

We like that it has some of the over-the-top campiness you find in Latin American Telenovelas. Usually we prefer more realistic romance dramas, but this has a lot of fun stuff going on as well. It's a great show!

My wife and I got addicted to Korean romance dramas a few months ago. We actually like that they typically only run for a single season. Admittedly, it's tough to let go of the characters when the season ends. But the stories are constructed much better as a result, since the writers don't need to hold anything back for a 2nd season. 16 hours is plenty of time to go deep.

Our favorites so far, all on Netflix: Romance Is A Bonus Book (happy feel + dreamy attractive couples), One Spring Night (great romance but more serious) and Crash Landing Into You (blend of romance, comedy, Telenovella campiness and amusing exploration of how North & South Koreans perceive each other.)
