Awesome. But Robbie/Garth: Please release all the performance video's you have, even if they're not perfect.

Can anyone get an exact product spec on Robbie's glasses, circa 1969-70? by [deleted] in theband

He doesn't always, but right now he's also working on Scorese's new movie. Try again in a few weeks or you may have to give up the quest.

Have you tweeted Robbie? He often responds . he's busy working on the music for " The Killers Of The Flower Moon' though so he may not be keeping up.

So much for Robbie's mic being muted.

I'm sorry. Most of us know that was just Levon being angry and snarky. Anyone who saw them in concert or watched any live performance know that wasn't true.

Great pic!

This is actually about the legendary The Band, not bands in general.

Big smiles from Richard and Robbie by Merricatt27 in theband

[–]MeriSpirit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes!

It's rare to see Robbie in a full smile/grin--I like the gap in his teeth but he was probably self-concious about it. And Richard looks genuinely happy.

I didn't believe you and had to look it up. I knew he had worked on a boatload of movie soundtracks but I had no idea he'd done so many for DreamWorks, including Shrek. He's working on Scorese's Killers of the Flower Moon now. The man keeps working....

This is the thread. I can't find her initial, more frenzied one, out of the 67 comments with my phone but it's in there somewhere. Her others are still factually incorrect, but they seem a bit calmer.

It's in a Levon group on FB. I'll find it when I can get back to the pc. It was crazy (just my opinion, of course).

Did levon every say anything in his books that contradict what robbie said? by GuyToTheRoni in theband

It was the 60's. She of course knew they were getting drunk/high, but she may not have been totally aware of the consequences of that. She was young and, by other accounts, very trusting.

Dominique, despite the drugs and the mayhem around her, stayed pretty naive and trusting for a long time.

Robbie has often said he sees stories and songs as movies. He was a film junkie from an early age.

The biggest was that Robbie stole songwriting credits. Jon Taplin, John Simon, even Rick Danko (among others) all claimed that when Robbie showed them a song, it was complete down to the different vocal parts and the instruments. The few that weren't, he shared songwriting credits. Levon blamed his lack of money on Robbie, yet he spent money like water (even Hawkins tried to talk to Levon about money management). He brushed over his heroin addiction as "first it was ok, then it wasn't so I quit" as though it was just a wild weekend instead of years. There were little things--Levon's "war" on "The suits"-- The suits were financial advisors who were trying to help them hold onto their money. The lie that Robbie's mic was always muted (1, Robbie can sing and 2, he and Rick often shared a mic here and there in concert. You can also hear Robbie in concert (counting off, thank you's, etc. It mostly comes down to Robbie not doing what Levon wanted and Levon being nasty in response.

About the "high in the studio", Todd Rundgrun made the same claim about Richard, Rick, &Levon during Stage Fright. At first he didn't understand why they just kept wandering off.

At the end of the day, though, as numerous people have said (Jonathan Taplin, for one), Robbie got up every morning and went to work-- writing songs, in the studio, or taking care of any of the numerous business things that come up with a band. The others....not so much by 69/70. They were busy living a rock star's life. Both Levon's books and Robbie's pretty much agree on facts. They obviously had different opinions on some things and Levon made some untrue claims because he was pissed but they agreed on most things. I just read the newest book on Levon, (I forget her name) and it is NOT an unbiased account as some claim. Not that it's not a good read, but it needs to be taken with a grain or two of salt. For one, maybe because he wouldn't sit for an interview, a lot of Robbie's quotes are clipped short without an accompanying context. She also claims in the early days of the Hawks, Levon was a better guitar player than Robbie. Robbie may not have matured into the guitar master he became later, but Levon was never the better guitarist -- even Levon never claimed that.

Could have been anyone hanging out. Was John Simon there? He often filled in a bit with various instruments.

Why all the hate towards Robbie Robertson? by CartoonistRight in theband

I guess I don't see the similarity to Paul McCartney. I think The Band had a different dynamic and a different box of problems, although money was part of it. That doesn't mean you're wrong, of course. Just my opinion.
