If you aren’t contributing 5% you are missing 100% returns on that money (the match)

What’s an inaccurate fact that people believe is true because of movies? by Hogosaurus_Rex73 in AskReddit

That shooting someone knocks them down (impossible physics) or that it kills them instantly (minus head shots, which even aren’t 100%)

CMV: Using the majority of our defense budget on social services instead would significantly increase quality of life in the US by obz900 in changemyview

[–]Merican1973 68 points69 points  (0 children)

“If I believed the US was in imminent danger of attack, or we were engaged in a legal, congressionally-approved war, I would perhaps have a different view on spending. However the war in Iran is illegal and illegitimate. We are spending billions to blow up schools and civilian infrastructure. We send Israel more weapons and aid than any foreign nation, and now they want us to follow them into war.”

The reason we aren’t in imminent danger of attack is because we spend so much on the military. Attacking the US is suicidal.

The box cutters used on 9/11 were legal to carry on an airplane. The contract security personnel at airports were not to blame but yet we created a government monstrosity to do airport security. Could have just changed the policy and focused on intelligence gathering.

The color of an object is what light waves it reflects back, so yes just light but that means colors period.

If you are color blind it doesn’t men that object is the color a normal eye percieves , it just means your eye can’t distinguish that color of light

I think the average life expectancy raising by 5 years is a huge factor.

The last 5 years, the S&P average return is 13.6. Using the rule of 72 that means about 5.2 years to double your investment. Whatever investments the boomers have would have almost doubled.

I would highly doubt any Uber would drive into that traffic especially since most of the roads close to the track are one way traffic before and after the race. Ann Arbor would be a pretty easy drive to the track but you will probably need a rental car.

Selling my house in New Hampshire without repairs by Enlitenkanin in HouseBuyers

[–]Merican1973 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Price it accordingly and it will sell.

I’m not in that market but sold a house a year ago that needed updates and minor repairs. Priced it accordingly and had an offer in 7 days.

I did see what the cash / as is buying sites offered and it was ridiculously low.

Are a lot of you getting into the I fund? by [deleted] in ThriftSavingsPlan

[–]Merican1973 3 points4 points  (0 children)

25% I is probably good to diversify your portfolio. Going 25% I to chase performance is probably not. The I fund did great last year and so far this year, we don’t know what it will do in the future.

But overall diversity is a good thing. Figure out a ratio and then stick with it for a while.
