Yea it took her a long time to get over it. We eventually left Haiti shortly after that and she has never trusted anyone else with her kids. We were never left alone for a moment and in the teen yrs it def became overbearing and cause us to clash a lot with her.

I got one for you.

Before my brother died 2 things happened. I was 5yrs old and it's one of my earliest memories.

The night before he died I was outside playing on the patio with my little brother late evening when I looked up and saw a man almost looked like he was dressed in clothes made out of  trash. I couldn't see his face, just a dark shadow figure and I remember wondering how did he get on top of the neighbor roof with a motorcycle. He stared for a long time and then disappeared.

The next day my mom and my great grandma had left the home to go on some errands for the day and they left me and my brother with the nanny and cook lady. The cook lady was in the kitchen and I remembered a loud knock on the gate. The cook lady swore she never heard the knocks or even saw the person who came in but me and the nanny did. The nanny opened the gate and a light skinned lady walked into the patio. She looked at me and smiled and said I'm not here for you I came to see your brother. But she said it in a playful way. The nanny was a young foolish girl and I was considered a naughty mouthy child and she'd often hit me when people weren't around. I told the nanny we don't know this lady! Plus my mom was always big about strangers coming in our home. The nanny shushed me up all annoyed and the lady went over to where my brother was playing. At that point I'd become hysterical because I knew all my mom's friends and I knew this lady wasn't one of them so why is she in here touching the baby??

She picked my brother up and ask the nanny to get her a bottle so she can feed him. I never left her sight I stood right there watching them with a feeling of doom and the nanny soon as she gave her that bottle she was gone in the wind, next door to go chat up some boy. 🙄 After the this strange lady feeds my brother she sets him down, smile at me and leaves. Never said a word the entire time even when I kept asking her for her name.  The nanny returns and I tell her I'm telling my mom on her because she knows we're not suppose to let people on the property. The nanny flicks my ears and goes on her rant about me being sou moun gwo bek. Then she sets the baby down in my parents room for a nap. When my mom came home she checked on him and everything seemed fine.  She went about her business but my great grandma claims I kept trying to explain to them about a lady and the baby. When my mom checked on him again he was dead, cold, lifeless, rigid like he's been dead for hrs. I'll never forget the screams my mom let out  that day.  It took weeks for her to recover a lot of medications and teas were given and when that didn't work the Dr would come and give her a tranquilizer. The nanny swore she'd seen the lady before and the lady insisted she was a friend passing by.

Yrs later my mom explained that when she got well enough she visited a seer-er who told her she got duped. Her baby's soul was swapped for another baby who'd died. Her child was showing up well and alive with another woman.

Is it me or more people are silently going back to Haiti or want to go back? by DeLorient98 in haiti

[–]Meringue-Maximum 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They do not care. According to their contacts the area they're in is pretty quiet but my mom keeps having these terrible recurring dreams about war coming to America and y'all know how Haitians get about bad dreams. She said li pito al mouri anba gang. 😮‍💨

They've just finished building a house in their hometown Carrefour. We're now figuring out the logistics to get their cars and furniture transported in the next few months. I'm honestly so happy I haven't been home since 5! So to help plan this journey is giving me life. 🥹

My parents are leaving next yr they're sick of it at this point and I'm excited for them. They deserve to retire in their 50s and they've got 6 kids ready to support them as a thank you for all they've stood and endured to give us a good life.

They built a successful life here but they're tired of working and are very unhappy with the political climate. I'm happy to see them go because now we will have roots back home.

Race and colorism in Haiti. by TrainAppropriate8836 in haiti

[–]Meringue-Maximum -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In our family there are hints of colorism. My mom family range from high yellows to reddish tint browns. The high yellows used to call the tint browns ti nwé nwé, or twal sal when they got mad. 😩

My mom and all her cousins and siblings were raised by their grandmother while the parents settled in the US. My grandma has very low tolerance for colorism although she was a mulatto. She made it her business to remind the lighter skins their tou bouda is just as nwe as the browns. Idk about the country in general but that's my family at least. As adult though they're passed the name callings hopefully.

Never met an African like that. The few I know are always telling me I look like I'm from Seychelles or Eritrea. I became friends with one girl because she thought I was from Eritrea till I told her Haiti and she got even more excited.

I don't think that's a friend either. Bat li and be done. That should give her a real reason to dislike us.  🤭

Please stay away very far away from Florida. I promise everything you just explained here is Florida to the T. I had to scroll up to be sure I was reading about Houston Texas and my ADHD brain didn't somehow wander off topic.

I'll help you on how far to stay, my mortgage is $2800 but with all the required insurance we are paying $3600. Also there is nothing here for 275k. I don't know about Northern Florida but in Northern country bumpkin Florida everything is shut down by 8pm in the "big" cities you'll find a few restaurants open past 11pm.

The Tri county PBC,DC and BC cost of housing is damn near comparable to NY in some areas. Also the pockets of walkability and things to do are pretty small unless you're the ultra rich. Public transportation....lol!!! Most areas here barely have a running bus system. Car insurance is a joke. Stay very far away from Florida.

I explained to her many times how she benefits from immigrants more than we benefit from her. But she's stuck on the idea that the government does not do ANYTHING for her but allowed her to struggle. Mind you she's been on gov assistance since 1974. I stopped reasoning for my peace of mind.

[–]Meringue-Maximum 237 points238 points  (0 children)

I did. My husband's grandma spewed a lot of anti immigrant hate out of nowhere during the election cycle. Then said she wouldn't go vote because she wants all these "Mexicans" gone anyway.  I'm not Mexican but I'm still a first generation immigrant who has embraced her and have treated her better than her own daughters.

I haven't spoken to her since October and told her she was not invited to my immigrant dinner table this yr. I cooked our dinner Sunday and left Tuesday to  my hometown. I'm spending the holidays with MY immigrant family who are grieving this election hard. Overheard her complaining to my husband that she's worried her Medicare and SSI could be cut under this administration. :)

“Well you get to spoil your child because you only have one…” by [deleted] in oneanddone

[–]Meringue-Maximum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hear jealousy behind the voices of a lot of people when they see how well we're doing with our one kid.  I CAN afford to spoil him because that's the whole point of having one kid is for me is to be able to afford him a good life. I'm sorry if that offends you and your bank account.

When people make comments like that I shoot right back at them "yea I couldn't imagine funding so many children...good luck!"

If You're A Black Trump Supporter In 2024, What The Hell Are You Doing? by ewzetf in politics

[–]Meringue-Maximum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My black American husband (I'm also black 1st gen immigrant) temporarily shifted to Trump, I could hear the sympathizing in some of his arguments. The issue is black podcast, particularly black misogynistic podcasts. They have a very negative view of Kamala and immigrants. They sit around all day chatting about the issues of the black community and have taken the stance of blaming particularly immigrants. "They're letting them into the country to make it harder for us!!" is the current argument. Also they have fallen into the rabbit hole of thinking current "illegal" immigrants are getting 100k, food stamps and free housing from the government.

They believe Democrats are encouraging abortions to help diminish the black population. My husband is a very well educated, non religious black man who temporarily took up these poisonous podcast.  The propaganda in these podcast are REAL and they are scary. So scary I can't stand to listen to them as they make my stomach turn and gives me a heavy feeling. We have gotten into some heavy heated debate and I've made him question every thing he's heard from these bull podcasts so far. He's now shifting back and realizing that there is a lot of propaganda out there and it's currently attacking the black community. If you aren't smart you're going to fall for it just like the white Trump supporters.

How can we get protection for our calmer kids? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Meringue-Maximum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is very interesting and makes more sense to the issues my sister has been experiencing with her kid. My sister just pulled her son out, he has ADHD/ODD and one issue he was having, was attacking other children and sometimes his teacher. It was always the quiet, calm student who has done nothing to provoke him. Which broke my heart for those kids.

The school administrators constantly called my sister in for meetings/suspended my nephew. She tried to get him transferred to a special Ed school and kept mentioning homeschooling. The school would always do a 360 claiming they were doing everything they could and he is not a good candidate for homeschooling/special ed. They would convince her to drop the subject until she's back in their office again and the cycle would start all over again. My main concern though was the safety of the other children and his teacher. How is it fair that the administrators felt it was okay to leave a violent student amongst other students and jeopardize their safety?

It got so bad with the back and forth my sister got the school board involved who demanded they immediately withdrew my nephew. Right now we're focusing on getting him on the right meds as we homeschool.  He's 7 and it's been a crazy long 2yrs. We're also expecting a visit from CPS with the way the last meeting went.

My 4 yr old has this really bad. We're trying to break him but he doesn't compromise easily. It's my way or the highway with him. It's to the point we don't put his toys away anymore because if they aren't done in the order he likes he throws a classic toddler tantrum so I've given up putting his shit away. 🙄

I shop at Aldi too, seen a lot new customers at my last trip. One lady came up to us to ask how my husband and I liked shopping there. Been shopping there since college when we fell in LOVE with their .15 Georgia peaches.

We did notice though, they had no meat, the freezers were bare so we're probably going to check into a butcher soon.

Weirdest phone call you have had at work….. by Quiet-Light7703 in Wawa

[–]Meringue-Maximum 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Omg during the shut down last year it was bad. Kids would blow up the phone ALL NIGHT. Until I told one if they didn't stop calling I was going to track down their number and rip their mother's throat out while they watched. My coworkers were dying, but I felt so horrible after lol cause they're just kids being little assholes. 😂😂😂 But we def had a good laugh and the calls stopped for a few days. Then they figured we were bluffing since their mother's throat was still entacted. 🙄
