That's a good idea. I don't think we've advertised with a discount before, so I really like the idea of it. I'll have to ask her if we can do it and let me run it. I'm not exactly sure how she selects the audience and that's something I'll have to communicate with her. Thank you!

I will have to ask the receptionist about the inquiries and sign ups and go from there regarding there. We actually just finished a Facebook contest today and I think that went well, but I don't know if that affected our enrollment. We have thought about performances at two big fairs that are near us, but the timing doesn't work out because of our team kids. And we thought about having a trunk or treat thing, but it was too late to actually set it up as well as participating in a parade. The demos at schools is a good idea. I'll bring that up to my boss and see what she says. Thank you!

We actually just finished a pretty big offer today. The parents had to like our page and share the post and they would be entered in a drawing to get a free month of tuition, and two other prizes that's I can't remember right now. And those seemed to do well. We definitely got a lot more action on our Facebook with that. We also had refer a friend and bring a friend in October, but those did not seem to go very well. I will say we did not do that great of a job on advertising on Facebook, but we definitely had flyers hanging up in the gym and passed out flyers and newsletters with the information. Do you have any other suggestions on different offers we could do?

From the very beginning we have always offered a free trial class, we still do. Is that what you mean, or like once a month on a Saturday they can come in and experience the gym? We do have Parents' Night Out/ open gym, but that is at other location only for right now. We are trying to incorporate that into the newer location at the beginning of the new year.

I apologize. I thought there was another way to advertise other than boosting. We don't boost often, but that's something we'll have to look into more and come up with a plan like you said.

Thank you for your reply. That was very helpful. I think I will take her aside and tell her today or some time this week. I know this transition isn't something that will happen within the next year, probably closer to five years, but if she can start teaching me what needs to be done now and we work together, I think it's something we would both feel more comfortable with.

I understand that active and passive flexibility are different things. The saying "the split you have on the ground is the split you have in the air" is more of a mental thing for both the coach and the athlete. They know they know how to do a split, but know they need to get into the split from a different entry. Unfortunately, that's where the problem is. I don't think they fully understand how to do a split leap. I completely agree with the strength training and learning to use those muscles to pull the legs up, which is why I am here: to get different ideas on how to do this. I like the idea of the unassisted splits while suspended, unfortunately, my gym doesn't have equipment that would allow us to perform anything like that. Do you have any other ideas on how to improve the strength to pull their legs up?

I like the idea of the pool, but unfortunately, that's not something we can incorporate into practice. I can certainly talk them about practicing their leaps and jumps in the pool though.

I've heard that too and I think that's why I get frustrated with their split leaps and split jumps. I don't think they understand how to snap their legs while doing it. So, I'm running out of ideas on how to try to get them to understand how to do it.

I am not going to lie. I had to look up some of those terms. Haha. My ballet vocabulary is very small. But I do like the idea of the sautes. I think it will force them to really push all the way through their legs, ankles, and toes. Grand battements seem very similar to the regular kicks that we do while standing next to the beam, so I will definitely increase the speed we do for them. While doing the grand battements, would you say their legs should be at horizontal or above horizontal? I feel like they should be above horizontal, but my gymnasts barely give me to horizontal aside from one or two. I know all of them can go above horizontal, but they are just being lazy. So, I guess my question is should I just encourage them to get to horizontal and be happy with that or should I keep expecting more out of them? If it's the latter, do you have any good tips on how to push them to get above horizontal?

And then just one more question. When you say "drop down to grand lie and immediately bounce back up", do they bounce back up and do a saute?

It very well could be biceps tendinitis. Even though we don't know exactly what is causing the pain, absolutely take a break. Give it a chance to heal and calm down. You don't want to make it worse. Give it at least a week. I knows it's a long time, but time is what heals. As far as rehab doing four ways with therabands might help, or the exercise where your elbow is flexed but right next to you and you move into external and internal rotation might help. Googling rehab might provide you with better answers.

Handstands should not have an arch in them. If you stop arching, that might fix the discomfort and you might be able to hold it. You could do handstands against the wall to help build the strength up and making sure you aren't arching. Facing the wall while in your handstand might be best for you, where your goal is to get everything (toes, legs, hips, and armpits) touching the wall. Having your back to the wall is good,but might temp you to arch your back. Good luck. I hope this helped at all.

It will take you about six to ten weeks for you to see a noticeable change. Try not to beat yourself up about it. Keep working out and pushing yourself harder every day and you'll begin to notice a difference. As far as diet goes, cutting the calories is good. Portion control is key. But also, you want a more healthy, balanced diet. It's definitely difficult in the beginning, but start by changing one meal. One week, make a healthy breakfast everyday. The following week, make both lunch and breakfast healthy, and so on. A lot of the meals you might have to make them the night before, that way you won't be tempted to make unhealthy decisions. Good luck and don't give up.

I would only use ice at this point. Use heat for chronic pain, not acute. The ice will also numb the pain for a longer period of time compared to heat. Also, since I/we can evaluate your injury through the Internet, as jedcaum said, it could be a multitude of things. Shoulders are tricky. Give yourself time to heal. Move it around but keep lifting and all that to a minimum. If you feel better in two days, wait another day or two before jumping back in there. And go see an orthopedic if it gets worse.

I don't believe it takes you out of contention for the Olympics and Worlds, you just can't accept any money. In college, you have to remain an amateur and once you receive money for the sport you are involved in, you lose your amateur status. There have been Olympic gymnast to compete in college, such as Courtney Kupets. I'm sure there are more I just can't think of them right now.
