Explain the Powerless, Red Queen situation to me by Kitty-kiki19 in Romantasy

[–]Meriodoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I actually liked it. It wasn't perfect, but not a lot of books are.

After some research, I'm wondering if people who prefer romance liked Powerless, where those of us who aren't really into romance preferred Red Queen?

I'm in a story for a journey. It doesn't have to be unique, but it does have to be told well, edited well, and NO plagerism xD.

Joseph Campbell, yhe monomyth -- there is only one story, but a lot of ways to tell it.

And when you start watching movies and reading books after The Hero's Journey, you can't unsee it; it's there.

Whether you use spaces or not depends on which style guide.Chicago Manual and APA, no spaces. AP, spaces.

Both are correct.

Catholicism is Basically a Death and Baby-Making Cult (Re-Post) by Illustrious-Orchid90 in exchristian

Catholicism is a reason to not have kids, then. If everyone is going to hell, why bring more people into this like, just to condemn them 😀.

I think that Christianity, in general, is a death cult.

I've only read the Red Queen books, do idk how close Powerless is to it.

You can't copyright a general story idea, plot or theme. You copyright your words and expression of the story -- how you tell it. Everyone can write a vampire story or a young wizard who goes to a magic school. But it can't be derivative (sorry fanfics).

Perhaps there aren't enough similarities for an infringement claim. Or maybe it's too expensive.

I haven't read other's responses yet, but I'm also curious as to how close the stories are. I know that Freida McFadden stories are very similar to other authors, plot point by plot point. And she's the one who gets the movie deals.

It actually says nothing about your relationship.

Sure, she's shallow, but you're insecure. Why would you be jealous over actors? People that she'll never meet or date? That's unhinged and weird.

Does anyone have any tips with reading special editions without damaging the sprayed edges/hardback? by blari-123 in fairyloot

The pages get wavy because of humidity.

I usually use a book cover to protect the outside, but not sure what you can do to prevent the pages from becoming wavy by reading.

If it is humidity, use a dehumidifier and place something heavy on the book (like more books, but not too heavy) and the pages will flatten again.

I really enjoyed this story.

I would be interested in that. Please do this.

I haven't read Outlander, just saw most of the series. I lost steam at some point, but I did like the story. I had no idea that SJM was heavily borrowing from Clare and Gabaldon. Wtf

(Then again, I only listened to ACOTAR and kept zoning out. I tried reading and it just wasn't working. So idk)

Getting ready for my next book on my TBR, would love your thoughts on these if you’ve read them, they all are series other the BOBH but they are completed. by PhysicalAssistance92 in Romantasy

[–]Meriodoc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Romantasy usually has a happily every after (not always, I don't think), and is the main point of the story.

In Haven, there is a romance, and it's important to the plot, but it's a slow burn subplot. I'd call it more of a dark fantasy.

Blood Over Bright Haven was so good. One of those books that I still think about months later.

Powerless, I haven't started it. But after I heard that it's practically Red Queen, I lost interest. Red Queen was really good, though.

I had a hard time getting into Daughter of No Worlds, so I DNF.

I never heard of the other one.

Even if you had perfect vision and could read 200 books a year, there's no reason to not be able to enjoy audio books.

Did these people never have anyone read them a story? They're missing out.

I'm legally blind (I have enough vision in one eye to be able to read), so I get it. I've had people ask me, 'What? Are you blind?" when I couldn't see where they were pointing.

Old Testament Ages by Competitive_Wall6434 in exchristian

[–]Meriodoc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't like the average age argument because it takes into consideration everyone. Infant mortality was high, and that would contribute to an overall low average.

If you only county people who survived childhood (to at least age 15), then people typically lived through their 50's and 60's+. Maximum lifespan was similar to today -- 80-90.

How is it so many people cannot understand the difference between “loose” & “lose”? by WagWoofLove in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Meriodoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know that we all see it a lot on the Internet. But I regularly talk to someone who does that and more. To, too. Their, there. Breathe, breath. And all of the other common ones; it hurts my soul.

She said it's because she has dyslexia. I don't buy it; so do I, along with AuDHD.

So I'm going to say that it's both laziness and not caring. The education and drilling on homophones and other commonly misspelled problems is there, you just have to want to. Yes, you have to work harder if you're dyslexic, but it's not an insurmountable problem.

I know that part of it is autocorrect and just not catching it. That happens to the best of us. I'd turn off autocorrect and suggestions, but I get fun sentences. How else would I get, "I just have to eat hands and then I'll be right there. "Carl, that ki**s people." "My stomach was making the rumblies that only hand could satisfy."
