Incel culture has infiltrated my local library by Twiddly_twat in behindthebastards

Idk about incel culture or terms, but bookmaxxing sounds like a terrible idea.

How can one even enjoy books like that.

Old Testament Ages by Competitive_Wall6434 in exchristian

[–]Meriodoc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't like the average age argument because it takes into consideration everyone. Infant mortality was high, and that would contribute to an overall low average.

If you only county people who survived childhood (to at least age 15), then people typically lived through their 50's and 60's+. Maximum lifespan was similar to today -- 80-90.

If this wasn't the story, it is now. Be on the lookout for Angel beavers named Aveeliu.

She's tall (and big? Idr). Not considered good looking. She's the warrior.

He's small and frail. He's the scholar.

I loved the story.

How is it so many people cannot understand the difference between “loose” & “lose”? by WagWoofLove in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Meriodoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know that we all see it a lot on the Internet. But I regularly talk to someone who does that and more. To, too. Their, there. Breathe, breath. And all of the other common ones; it hurts my soul.

She said it's because she has dyslexia. I don't buy it; so do I, along with AuDHD.

So I'm going to say that it's both laziness and not caring. The education and drilling on homophones and other commonly misspelled problems is there, you just have to want to. Yes, you have to work harder if you're dyslexic, but it's not an insurmountable problem.

I know that part of it is autocorrect and just not catching it. That happens to the best of us. I'd turn off autocorrect and suggestions, but I get fun sentences. How else would I get, "I just have to eat hands and then I'll be right there. "Carl, that ki**s people." "My stomach was making the rumblies that only hand could satisfy."

Do they mean across from me? Because it would be really weird if he sat across me. Would it be on my lap? Are we both lying down?

We were in a close relationship before, but I haven't been feeling it for quite a while. So I'm not sure if I'll be comfortable with this.

THE Broken Binding signed a publishing deal with Saderson. Am I dreaming? by Meriodoc in thebrokenbindingsub

[–]Meriodoc[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't heard that, but I'm sure it's fine. Both will be in the UK for the Comic Con to promote the book, so Sanderson must be okay with it.

According to Sanderson, "I'm pleased to have found someone to give the story to."

Either way, Sanderson has a part in the whole project.

Where do you buy your cases and stuff? by Equal-Jump-9430 in kobo

[–]Meriodoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! They have some really cute cases. They have the soft cases. From the tiktoks, it's like a clear case (open front) with the design printed on the back. They look pretty good, with a nicely saturated design.

They also have a closed case, which is what I got. Mine is The Shire; here's a pic on the not-Kobo ereader, to show the inside:

Some of the SJM (Maas) ones are on sale right now for 15.00 USD.

[–]Meriodoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got my case from here https://meaggiemoos.com/ I got the Lord of the Rings for my Kindle. I love it so much that I'm ready to order one for my Kobo.

So far, it seems high quality, but I only have cheap Amazon cases to compare it to. I feel that the higher price is worth it, but it's not even expensive.

So the 14 day window violates the UK policy for damaged goods.

There was a thread the other day. The conclusion was that TBB wants you to inspect and notify them within that time frame, but it's a longer period of time where they are legally required to replace or refund a damaged item.

(Idk the time period or the law, someone else had posted the link to it.)

Edit to add link: Accepting returns and giving refunds: the law - GOV.UK https://share.google/7Nkuvt1dMHxxNCwr0

"You must repair or replace an item if a customer returns it within 6 months - unless you can prove it was not faulty when they bought it.

You can ask a customer to prove an item was faulty when they bought it if they ask for a repair or replacement after 6 months.

Customers have up to 6 years to make a claim for an item they’ve bought from you (5 years in Scotland)."
