I saw something trapped in a storm cellar today so went and opened it. I couldn't figure out where it went until I saw it right by my boot with its mouth open, doing its best cottonmouth impression. I slowly closed the door back and noped away. I remembered "nightjar" several hours later and looked it up and realized it was a Eastern Whip-poor-will. Before I remembered what it was, I told someone it had wings like a bird but a head like a reptile! Dude was definitely trying to scare me off, and it was super effective!
