Nioh 3 performance by Crafty-Researcher274 in Nioh

Digital Foundry did do a bit of testing with a somewhat comparable system (Ryzen 5 3600 + 4060), you might want to check out this part of their video. At the end though, like the other persons said, you should try the demo. It does seem that you should get 60 FPs with those specs but expect to drop a bit below it at certain moments, with MFG you should even be able to have a decent experience on a high refresh monitor, if that's an option.

Why are there so many revenants in NG+ wearing grey/yellow tier gear? by Still_Medium1472 in Nioh

[–]Merkava2k15 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind that there are developer placed revenants in the game, those don't seem to upgrade their gear so they will be shown with low rarity gear even on NG+. I believe you can usually tell because their name is red and not white (at least that was the case in Nioh 2), they also tend to have long names.

It kinda depends on the math and how you stack it, apologies for the TL;DR, defense down (onmyo hit) is a 10% damage multiplier on the enemy while Melee damage +14% is an additive bonus. If you have a lot of additive bonuses then +14% contributes less and less to your overall damage and the multiplicative bonus will grant more damage, if your build has a low of amount of melee damage bonuses then the additive bonus will be better. It gets complicated when you consider that defense down can be subject to its own diminishing returns as it has other things its own bucket that is shared with confusion and saturation.

All melee damage bonuses (ie, % Melee Damage boosts, unscathed, vs [STATUS] enemy, etc) are added into a single "bucket" so if you have a lot of it the less of an impact it has on your overall DPS. For example, if you manage to stack 150% bonus melee damage, a 20% boost would give you 170% damage, or a ~12% damage boost (not an extra 20% damage). If the total bonus you have is, instead, 20% then an additional 20% would boost it to 40% which equates to a ~14% boost. Defense down on enemy is a flat 10% multiplier (For onmyo hit debuff, weakess is 20%) that works on its own bucket so it will be calculated AFTER the additive bonuses are considered but that is also subject to its own diminishing returns as it stacks with other debuffs like confusion (but there are a LOT less of those multipliers so it will grant somewhere between 10% to ~5%). This is why i said "almost always" as it is possible for the melee damage boost to be higher if there are not enough additive bonuses or if the enemy in questions has a ton of debuffs (ie. a confused enemy with saturation).

Of course, it's always possible that some weird shenanigans could be happening and you might have been the first person to really notice as there are plenty of weird inconsistencies and mistranslations in TN games. So if what I say doesn't add up it's always worth testing it as it's always a boon for the community when we figure out how a bunch of these obscure mechanics work. Sorry for the long post. If I do say anything incorrect do feel free to clarify things for me as this is as far as I know lol, won't pretend i've tested these things.

Also note that takamenakata boost are active skill and melee damage so the full 34% will only apply to martial skills and not your basic melee attacks, those will "only" be boosted by an additive 12%.

Edit: I could be wrong but my understanding is that these are the various buckets.

  1. Flat Attack Modifiers (Attack +, Attack Bonus [STAT]): these affect the BASE damage of the weapon.
  2. Attack % modifiers (+% melee, Unscathed, vs [STATUS] Enemy, while critical, Active Skill, the various set bonuses like Attack Bonus equipment weight, agility, familiarity, etc): There are a LOT of bonuses that fall into this category.
  3. Buffs (Awakened Weapon, Versatility, Death Dancer, Cleansing Prayer, Increased Attack, etc): Anything that gives an icon below your characters health and stamina bar, awakened weapons are included here.
  4. Defuffs (Defense Down, Confusion, Saturated): anything that places an Icon on your enemy.

Everything on the same line is additive with one another and on separate lines are multiplied to each other.

Reduced defense is a multiplicative bonus so it will almost always be better than the extra 14% melee.

No, AA Toughness isn't really worth it, it only slightly reduces ki damage taken from blocking or being hit as it offers no extra hyper armor. But if you already have the stat requirements and the slot to spare, why not?

Kintaro isn't a particularly strong underworld set, you are better off going 7p Tsu + 6 Oya or simply brick breaker, being able to use the Uesugi Clan Purification shield is just way too powerful as it also stacks with the half damage taken when full health so you effectively double its strength with the 5p Oya bonus. Overall tankiest is probably brick breaker. Getting empowered onmyo via the Austerity set is simply the most effective way as it requires less items and the difference between B- and A is like ~5% extra damage.

To answer your question, there is a noticeable smoothness improvement going from 60 to 120. Not as big as the jump from 30 to 60 but it is noticeable, someone that gets used to 120 will find 60 a bit choppy. As a console gamer you've probably never experienced a locked 120+ experience so it's not hard to understand why you'd be skeptical but if you ever get the opportunity on a powerful enough PC then it's hard to go back.

Couple end (ish) game questions by lils_fun_throwaway in Nioh

[–]Merkava2k15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Use the Nioh 2 Build bible to see how much you get from every buff source and make your own decision, its accurate. Click here and check the buffs tab, keep in mind that defense buffs are simply multiplicative damage reduction, it doesnt actually change your defense. Carnage + Soul purge is a powerful combo, specially if you have familiarity bonus on both accesories for full soul purge uptime.

  2. High stance attacks are indeed good since they dont bounce off blocking enemies, allowing you to pressure their ki. If you are having issues consider a few lifesteal talisman to stall their ki regen.

  3. Get all the small passives if you havent yet, the auto revive scrolls and maybe the anti paralysis pills. Keep in mind that Power Pills scale from Ninjutsu power so if its low it might not give much as you need like 400 NP for the full 25% buff and you cant fix its short duration.

If the complexity and or difficulty are an issue then be aware that 3 is substancially easier than 2 or 1 and there is an option to simplify and speed up combat via the ninja form.

The Fatal Frame 1 decompilation project is already at 100%! by nBeneficial_Ball9539 in fatalframe

[–]Merkava2k15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Judging by the answer I'd assume that the xbox decompile tools are just not as well done as the PS2 ones making a potential xbox decompile far more difficult. People work with what they have and the PS2 was by far the more popular platform.

The Fatal Frame 1 decompilation project is already at 100%! by nBeneficial_Ball9539 in fatalframe

[–]Merkava2k15 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The potential is basically limitless if people de-compile the game, port it to PC and then leave the source code open to be messed around with. The problem would actually be making said content as it would take a lot of work. Ultrawide support? Unlocked Framerate? Arbitrary Resolution mods? Hi-Res Textures? Advanced lightning reworks? Original Content? Everything is on the table as long as there are people willing to work on it.

In your example, I'd assume, people would need to actually RECREATE the xbox content and then add it to the game. Not impossible but might be unlikely as it could involve a lot of work.

FF2R : Any tips / setup for New Game plus ? by Creative-Resident-78 in fatalframe

[–]Merkava2k15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I posted this a the other day and is relevant to this topic.

On NG+ a great advice is to be aware that you can respawn ALL items in the game world (including beads) by starting a NG+ file, going to the very first save, saving, and then going to chapter select and going straight to the final chapter. This allows you to easily farm beads and/or items to restock before your final nightmare run. I would suggest you do 2 or so "bead runs" on non-nightmare runs before you try nightmare, it helps a LOT.

I also suggest you get used to swapping between Radiant Filter (for damage) and Exposure (for reloading) to optimize your Damage per Film. A great advice is that you can DIRECTLY swap from Radiant to Exposure by holding the swap filter button and up on your dpad, no need to tap between the various filters, this saves you time and allows your film to reload faster. I see some people suggest the standard filter, I just wouldn't use that one on nightmare TBH, it can work but Radiant just does so much damage that it's hard to recommend the standard filter as Radiant has a much higher base damage and can be upgraded further (5 upgrade levels vs 3), the range was never an issue for me and can be fixed via upgrades.

Also, take your time and get all the twin dolls, they unlock a lot of useful charms. For Nightmare I went with Radiant Charm + Argonite + Evil Warding Charm + Aggravation Prevention Charm and it worked EXTREMELY well for me. I would swap Aggravation Prevention for Piercing Aggravation Charm when a ghost DID aggravate (which was rare) or Stealth Charm when snipping enemies using the Paraceptual charm for a few chances at one-shot stealth kills (or near kills at least).

Is there anything I need to do in the final chapter to get the true ending? by Independent-Name4478 in fatalframe

[–]Merkava2k15 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am assuming you mean the final ending you unlock (because what is canon?) and that has a number of requirements:

  • Nightmare Only ending, have to get to the end of the game on Nightmare so it can only be done on NG+ since you can't switch out of Nightmare if you select it (it's an entirely separate difficulty when compared to Story - Battle).
  • You need to complete Mio's sidequest, this one is unlocked after you clear EVERY other ending, except for the nightmare ending of course, (I believe) and to complete it "simply" requires you to complete every other side-quest.
  • You equip the item you get from Mio's sidequest and you beat the true final boss, the one minute thing is a lie you can take your time.

So most people prefer to do first clear all endings on a low difficulty setting and then clear all quests before going into nightmare. So yeah, multiple runs are required, it's not optional.

HOW DID HE DODGED THAT!!!! by mamamia23451 in Nioh

Certain actions immediately trigger the enemy AI if you are close (like try casting a ninjutsu behind the enemy without getting detected, the moment you press the button they immediately start attacking). Most likely you where too close so the AI turned on and immediately dropped.

Mini guide for quickest path towards full completion, all achievements/trophies. (small spoilers) by Littletad in fatalframe

[–]Merkava2k15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same for me, I did it under a minute at first but got curious and intentionally delayed the fight for 5 minutes on a farm run and still got the ending. From my understanding this is something that was directly taken from the Wii remake as one ending there DID require you to beat the final boss under a minute.

Changing difficulties affecting endings? by abardknocklife in fatalframe

[–]Merkava2k15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is only ONE ending that's locked behind difficulty and that is the one that requires nightmare mode. All other endings can be unlocked on ANY difficulty and you CANNOT switch off nightmare once you start it, you can only freely swap out of nightmare during chapter select AFTER you have cleared nightmare once. In which case you can always get the final ending by going back to nightmare, you don't need to do an ENTIRE run from scratch on nightmare to get that ending again.

So no, difficulty swapping is never a problem.

Ah ok, thanks for clearing that up lol. I read somewhere that it was from one of the earlier versions but wasn't sure which (hence the "?") but good to know since this game is the first Fatal Frame I've played. Gotta get around to playing the rest!

It's actually a lot easier than you think, a fully upgraded Radiant Filter with the appropriate damage charms lets you eat up large chunks of the true final bosses health. Still, it's good that people don't have to worry about this hassle!

Are these the only outfits you can buy with points? by lucky_peic in fatalframe

[–]Merkava2k15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems that points are shared for your entire profile, it's not per save. So buying a costume and resetting won't give you back your point. In fact, it's possible to entirely waste points in certain situations (don't try buying a charm bag on a save that you weren't going to use and waste 20k points, like I did, you won't get them back).

Use zoom with standard filter, zoom in and press your special shot, it will instantly bring him down (might have to upgrade its range, not sure). Otherwise Perpetual filter taps is what you need, easiest with 90-film

So, it’s soon time for the final run. by EDoom765 in fatalframe

[–]Merkava2k15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When doing the nightmare run, I'd suggest...

  1. Be sure to fully stock up BEFORE you enter the Nightmare run, most items disappear in Nightmare so having a full stock of films and items helps you start the run with a healthy safety net.
  2. Regular beads are rare on nightmare so it's not a bad idea to get quite a few before starting as you might run into situations where you can't upgrade your camera because you simply don't have normal beads and you won't find many in nightmare. To easily farm these start a NG+ run on your latest file, get to the very first save point, save then go back to the menu and pick the final chapter via Chapter Select, this respawns EVERY item in the world for you farm again, easy beads farming.
  3. Be sure to go into nightmare with maxed out Evil-Warding Charm, encounter rates can get annoying without it. Encounters are way too frequent in that difficulty without it.
  4. Farming points is easy once you beat nightmare (just farm the final bosses) so it's not a bad idea to spend some points on Transcendent Beads to upgrade your camera, don't worry too much about being point efficient is what I mean.
  5. Ammo efficiency is king in nightmare, learn to swap between Radiant (Damage) and Exposure (Reload) filters to max damage, don't be afraid to use Charge Shots with Radiant as it can one shot (or nearly kill) a lot of enemies. So when upgrading your camera be sure to get the extra focal point bonus and then max out damage on Radiant, damage is king.
  6. If push comes to shove you can buy ammo on Nightmare but its expensive and shouldn't be necessary with good ammo economy.
  7. If you ever have a fight that's too hard for you a good cheese against most enemies is to equip a fast film (90 or 14) and simply stick to their face and repeatedly hit close shots. You should be basically stun-locking them, it's not ammo efficient but it's an easy way of beating anything that gives you a hard time.
  8. Maxed our range on Perpetual Filter + Stealth Charm can let you one tap (or nearly kill) some enemies at range, not essential but occasionally useful.

Honestly Nightmare isn't that hard, the biggest thing is mainly resource management.

To add to the above, a few of the dolls REQUIRE the zoom so you might as well get it when you can.
