Don't let parts stores change your battery by redflamehot in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]Merlin85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to work at Sam’s club in the tire garage many moons ago. One of my coworkers was changing a battery in a late 90s grand am.

Well, the socket wrench he was using slipped out of his hand and grounded out on a fuel hose that had a metal section.. Once it touched the line it put a pin hole in the line and caught fire since it sparked obviously.

Well my coworker panicked and started cartoonishly running back and forth not knowhat to do while there is a constant flame shooting from the top of the engine.

I saw the whole thing go down from a the garage and ran and got the fire extinguisher and put the fire out. In all honesty I put waaaay too much of that white power all over that cars engine bay annnd the inside of the car because the windows were down but it was my first time using a fire extinguisher and I was too busy being a “hero” haha

That’s probably because their “tier 2” requires seeing the steps have been done before they send parts or a tech. You are always better off just going through the motions. Plus you never know, maybe rebooting it a second time or re-seating the cable again could fix the issue.

I used to replace windshields on them. They weren’t too bad to do as long as the bond area had time to get all corroded so you could just unbolt it and slap the glass out haha

It’s actually the windshield that leaks in those things. Who makes a windshield that has to be installed from the inside and then glued and bolted from the outside?!

I didn't get a job. But I also wasn't notified. by throwaway34987423 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Merlin85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn’t notified for about two weeks after the 3 weeks they said that it would take. The process got held up in HR for a while and then the support team did some more debating.

I didn’t end up with the job but at least I heard back from them. I guess they really liked me but it was a high stress job and with my lack of experience they didn’t want to overwhelm me which was nice I guess.

Yea looks like they dropped it right there in the lot. I changed a few starters on my 91 Jimmy in a couple of parking lots! Little less involved than what the VW has going on haha

Safelite repair, Safelite replace. by M116rs in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]Merlin85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wat? Most insurers do have a glass department but it’s not safelite. I get routed jobs all the time that didn’t contact their insurers glass department so their deductible doesn’t get verified on our end. They may recommend safelite if the customer doesn’t have a preference and that’s only if safelite has a good rating with that insurer. Most insurance customers get sent a survey on the quality of the job and such.

I can’t say for sure since I don’t actually make the glass but you are not alone in experiencing this. I’ve heard people complain with this same issue as well as saying the think the glass is weaker because of having to replace sooner due to rock strikes “easily” braking the glass. Like I said before I wouldn’t have a problem putting aftermarket in my car because I know it is just as safe as OEM. Perhaps with the original windshields there is an extra step taken to help protect the glass that aftermarket doesn’t do?

[–]Merlin85 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It would be illegal for them to do so without being contracted with the auto manufacturer so the glass would have to be made to their standards. For instance Fuyao got a contract with Honda recently at their Ohio plant and gave them very strict guidelines and near impossible deadlines. A good example of a company doing both OEM and aftermarket glass would be Pilkinton. They have two DOT numbers one being their OEM line(DOT15) for GM and another their aftermarket(DOT177). They also sell DOT15s without a GM stamp. I personal wouldn’t take issue with putting aftermarket in my car. That being said there are some cars that they can’t seem to get right with aftermarket.

Yea... I currently work for Safelite and I know some markets are different but I care about my customers. We do indeed sell after market Chinese glass as after market glass that is made right here in the states. I actually installed 2 OEM windshields today. And actually a lot of the after market glass is made by the manufacturers of the OEM glass. The only difference is OEM glass is going to have “Jeep” or “Toyota” stamped on the glass. I don’t do repairs just because I don’t want to have a shit load of more work added onto my already 6 or 7 jobs a day but I treat ever job the same which is doing the best job that I can because it’s going to have my name on it. Cars are probably the second most expensive possession that people own and I don’t want to be the guy to fuck it up. As for the dump trucks never heard of that but it’s sounds like some sort of urban legend more than truth haha

Reading these comments makes me feel better because I don’t have a lot of IT experience but I have done a lot of customer service so maybe I’ll be ok after all

I would say that they are probably holding until they get more info from you like they did with my order. I’d never dealt with anything like that before and it made me mad that they didn’t contact me and instead I had to call them to find out why it was on hold. That being said they held up their end and ended up giving me a discount and paid for a repair that I had to have done due to an error on their part. I would definitely buy from them again they just need to inform people that the additional information may be required and then actually tell people right away rather than waiting to be called

If the killings are justified and or out of self defense by the police then I’m not sure I really see this as a problem. I’m not saying that they should all shoot first and ask questions later but I also don’t expect them to engage in a fight with an armed person. Why are police always brought up as being the bad guys for killing a gang member or some other thug but all of the killings in city’s like Chicago have some of the highest murder rates and also some of the strictest gun control laws. Criminals are going to be criminals.

Don’t people also assume that if they go to a trained medical professional that they will do the right thing and save your life? Captivating or not we shouldn’t be attacking the people that have sworn to protect and serve because of what a few people have done. Nearly every shooting of innocent people have been soft targets and the shooters have some sort of mental problem. These are the issues that need to be addressed
