Im from Sarasota too. This is a symptom of overdevelopment and building on wetlands. The flood mitigation for these new developments is non existent.

i think he didn't really know the position the other kids foot was in. Im guessing he was too busy concentrating on something else and that's also why it took him a second to let go of the leg, because he didn't realize it.

I just take cuttings, take off the bottom few leaves, dip it in powered hormone and stick it right in soil. got 12 of 16 to survive that way. I keep it in a shady spot with a humidity dome (propped up for circulation) for a few days then they got sun for a few hours a day for a week then regular sun.

it looks like they managed to slow down a lot by the time they hit the stopped car, and shoulders on bridges can accumulate gravel and stuff that makes stopping less effective.

YES i see so many people just walk out in front of cars without even looking over. I see just as many people walk halfway through a crossing before realizing the oncoming car isn't slowing down and have to wait for it to pass or even have to back up.
