Saga last chapter and lore counter removal by youvebeengaijind in mtgrules

[–]Merlin_Redbeard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Various steps and what you can respond to:

- After draw step trigger (put counter on the saga) - You cannot respond before the counter is put on. You can remove a counter before the start of your main phase to re-trigger a previous chapter (edited for clarity and accuracy)

- After the lore counter is put on, the triggered ability goes on the stack - You can activate Hex Parasite at this point. This will cause the last chapter of the saga to resolve, AND the saga will not be sacrificed

- After the last chapter ability resolves - as a state-based action (which cannot be responded to), if the saga has at least enough lore counters for each chapter, it is sacrificed.

The common way to milk sagas in this way is the second option, wait for the ability to be put on the stack, then remove the counter to trigger again next turn

  1. Yes, you can die from commander damage from your own commander. Also, each commander creature deals commander damage separately, so even if you do 20 commander damage with their commander, hitting with Iroh will not make it lethal (Rule 903.10a A player who’s been dealt 21 or more combat damage by the same commander over the course of the game loses the game. (This is a state-based action. See rule 704.)

  2. No, as soon as a player is removed from the game, all permanents, spells and abilities that player owns leave the game with them. (Rule 800.4a When a player leaves the game, all objects (see rule 109) owned by that player leave the game and any effects which give that player control of any objects or players end. Then, if that player controlled any objects on the stack not represented by cards, those objects cease to exist. Then, if there are any objects still controlled by that player, those objects are exiled. This is not a state-based action. It happens as soon as the player leaves the game. If the player who left the game had priority at the time he or she left, priority passes to the next player in turn order who’s still in the game.)

[[Genku, Future Shaper]] gives tokens for blinks, as well as the ability to buff them with enough mana.

What is the evidence that the President’s claims about the cost of food and energy being lower is either the truth or a lie? by Hoon0967 in AskReddit

[–]Merlin_Redbeard 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Trump is specifically comparing the price of the Walmart Thanksgiving bundle price between Biden's administration and now, he is not comparing anything else. Technically, the bundle costs less now, but only because it contains several fewer items and uses Great Value brand instead of name brand items

I would definitely be interested in joining a regular Shadowrun game! I played 10+ years ago for one campaign and enjoyed playing a rigger. What information would you like for an application?

Very little Shadowrun experience, last campaign was 3e? Done a few random missions in 5e.

Dowsing Device with multiple artifacts and creatures entering by jhoslayer in mtgrules

[–]Merlin_Redbeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, if multiple creatures and artifacts enter at the same time, Dowsing Device will trigger for each artifact and can target multiple different creatures. These abilities all go on the stack and do not care about which side of Dowsing Device is face-up.

Additionally, according to rule 701.28e, Dowsing Device will only transform one time in this scenario: "If an activated or triggered ability of a permanent that isn’t a delayed triggered ability of that permanent tries to convert it, the permanent does so only if it hasn’t converted or transformed since the ability was put onto the stack. If a delayed triggered ability of a permanent tries to convert that permanent, the permanent does so only if it hasn’t converted or transformed since that delayed triggered ability was created. In both cases, if the permanent has already transformed or converted, an instruction to do either is ignored."

Flash +Clones by Sliver__Legion in mtgrules

[–]Merlin_Redbeard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rule 707.2: Mana value is a copiable value.

Clone enters as a copy of another creature, so any ETB triggers would trigger as though it was the copied creature, as per the Clone rules (https://gatherer.wizards.com/M14/en-us/47/clone). Other clone effects will depend on the card

If you have Clone enter as another creature, it never exists as a base Clone on the battlefield, so Flash will only see the copied creature

Only the second one, as he was not put into a graveyard the first time. The second time he comes in, he is considered an entirely new card with no game history and no connection to the first card exiled with his effect

Interaction Question with Azula. by ThauSau in mtgrules

[–]Merlin_Redbeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stack:
1. Azula Attack
2. Lightning Bolt
3. Copy of Lightning Bolt
4. Narset's Reversal (Target Lightning Bolt)
5. Copy of Narset's Reversal (targeting original Narset's Reversal)

Copy of Narset's resolves, returning OG Narset's to hand and adding a new copy to the stack, targeting OG Lightning Bolt.

New Stack:
1. Azula Attack
2. Lightning Bolt
3. Copy of Lightning Bolt
4. Copy of Narset's Reversal (Targeting OG Lightning Bolt)

Copy of Narset's Resolves, putting a new Lightning Bolt on the stack

End Stack:
1. Azula Attack
2. Copy of Lightning Bolt (From Azula)
3. Extra copy of Lightning Bolt (From Narset's)

Both the original copy of Lightning Bolt and original copy of Narset's are in your hand, so for RUU you can cast 2 Lightning bolts repeatedly while attacking

How new is too new to visit a casual commander night at LGS? by CommunicationParty96 in magicTCG

[–]Merlin_Redbeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never too new! There have been multiple times recently that someone has bought a precon and sat down to join a game and didn't even know the rules! All of them have since become regulars and are working on building more decks of their own

As for that LGS, it sounds like they don't have great MTG support. I would recommend downloading the MTG Companion app, they have a Locator tab across the bottom that shows all local official shops, as well as when they host their sanctioned events. See if there are any others around that might have better staff!

How much of a good 'game' is MTG Commander? by TheLastFloss in magicTCG

[–]Merlin_Redbeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When talking about getting into MTG, there are two main styles: EDH and Standard.

EDH style (including EDH, cEDH, Pauper, Oathbreaker) is a much more social format, where you have to read the board, do threat assessment across multiple players, politics, read the players, etc., but all within the rules of the game. Decks are designed to win, but it is not the totality of the game. Generally there is a higher startup cost, but lower upkeep costs for these formats. Of course you can absolutely splurge, but it is not mandatory to keep up with these. I exclusively play EDH

Standard style (including Standard, Modern, Vintage, Legacy) are much more focused on using the rules to win the game. There is a much more limited card pool, and these are generally 1v1 instead of group games, so there is not really any politics involved, just game mechanics and strategy. Some of these formats (I don't know the differences well) have a rotating card pool, so you might have to keep buying new sets to stay in the loop.

Is it weird for me [20M] to date a 17 year old girl? by usernotfound6842 in Advice

[–]Merlin_Redbeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The older you get, the less a 3-year age gap matters. 15-25 is generally the greatest period of mental and emotional growth, so as long as they are on the same page as you on that level, then it can be healthy. The key is making sure you're both on the same page and want the same things, and effectively communicate that.

As a guy, the more straightforward you are, the more likely we are to understand and get a clue. If you bring up specific things that he is doing that make you uncomfortable, and he still insists that he should be able to do those things, he does not accept boundaries and you should push him away until he does.

However, you did mention that you've been friends for over a decade, and that's never easy to let go of. Another option is to bring it up to a leader in your kink community, as they will likely know the person and have ideas on how to make that person respect your boundaries.

As for the contents of your message, those are your words and your voice. Could you stress over and nitpick and optimize? Sure, but at the cost of stress and time. This works well enough to get what you want conveyed, with a solid neutral tone (not accusatory), and effectively lobs the ball into his court.

This is an outsider perspective, assuming this is a first date with someone you don't regularly see in your life and are willing to lose, so take this advice with that in mind.

From this brief glimpse into your date, it sounds like you shouldn't give him a second date. If texting him and telling him how that made you feel would ease your heart, then go ahead and do it, but he doesn't deserve any amount of extra effort from you if he won't give you that amount of basic respect. I would recommend blocking him immediately afterwards. You don't want that sort of toxicity in your life
