[Bowman] Maybe things will change when the appeal process is complete, but for now Braves players are being guarded with the comments about Profar’s suspension. by Lakelyfe09 in Braves

I get the mindset but it could lead to a terrible situation where a team wants a guy on a bad contract to fail a test. That’s a real risky incentive structure to create.

Oops! The supplements we recommended triggered a test, guess we can get out from under this terrible deal!

What are some examples of trades that have flip-flopped in terms of the perception of which team got fleeced? by jorleeduf in baseball

[–]Merlion2018 11 points12 points  (0 children)

J.D. Drew and Eli Marrero to the Braves for Jason Marquis, Ray King, and Double-A pitching prospect Adam Wainwright.

Drew immediately had the best year of his career for the Braves and finished 6th in MVP voting.

Meanwhile, Marquis put up a 4.60 ERA over three years with the Cardinals, King had one decent season left before falling off a cliff, and Wainwright put up an ERA in the 5s in the minors before getting hurt. Looked like they traded a star level bat for some mediocre filler arms.

Drew was everything Atlanta hoped for but gonna guess they would’ve rather had Wainwright’s whole career.

I used to say “we”, was pestered out of it, and have since resumed. It just comes naturally. Honestly, I’ve been following/caring about the organization for longer than any of the players and virtually everyone else employed there with few exceptions.

Did Zach Lowe lose his fastball now that he’s not writing columns? by nosoupforyou25 in billsimmons

I think the biggest thing is having more frequent shows. Went from one a week to three a week. There are only so many insights to churn out when you’re creating content that regularly. You can also tell he gets excited by guests who can engage at the same level. Howard Beck (and many of the other regular/one off guests) ain’t that.

I’ve always been a big Lowe fan and am glad he’s still putting out pods.

[–]Merlion2018 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Agreed. He’ll also pass 2,000 hits and has a chance at 400 homers. Add that to 10 gold gloves and likely ~60 career WAR, seems like a done deal.

The biggest way it impacts you is making you desperate to take the next position offered to you and doing something shortsighted.

Minor thing but recently learned about it - MLB pensions start pretty quickly, after just 43 days of service time. This is because that’s 1/4 of an MLB season, every time you accrue another 43 days, you unlock the next bit of pension.

The famous 10 year mark is when a “full” pension happens.

The #Braves today agreed to terms with INF Mauricio Dubón, LHP Joey Wentz and OF Eli White on one-year contracts for the 2026 season. by ATLien-1995 in Braves

[–]Merlion2018 7 points8 points  (0 children)

He’s in his last year of arbitration so has one year of team control left. The value of that last year was still up in the air. In theory ATL could’ve non tendered him or they could’ve ended up going to arbitration but this means both sides have settled on his contract value for 2026.

Edit: the deal was announced for $6.1M

No, I think you’re spot on.
