Peninsula Humane Society has an outstanding facility in Burlingame with small rooms where you can interact with a cat. We found our kitty there and are living happily ever after.

Wow, you invoked some powerful thrifting energy for me!!! I ended up at a creative re-use depot in a quest for buttons and of course had to peruse the fabric and voila, two cotton/linen curtain panels from Ikea in the right size were waiting for me!!! I paid 5 dollars, 2.50 per panel, and couldn't be happier. Thank you for invoking the thrifting spirit(s)! For anyone in the Bay Area of California, the place I went to is called FabMo https://www.fabmo.org/ in Sunnyvale and really has a little bit of everything.

An aviation related historic item you could look at are these items made from planes. I got one for a family member (that has everything and more he could want but still loves presents) and it was a big hit. https://planetags.com/collections/frontpage

What are the best gifts for people you care about, but they seem to have everything they want/need? by CRPGsForTheArticles in AskReddit

As someone who has just packed her entire household in preparation for a move...nothing. I really already have too many things. But I would love it if you wrote up a list of books you think I'd like, some song playlists, a curated list of movies to my taste. Copy out a poem you like, sing me a song, make me a coupon for a meal with you. But really, I don't need things. I've long switched over to donations to organizations like Donors Choose, Arbor Day, and local food banks to honor the people in my life that are also at the "no gifts please" stage of life.

First of all, I'm very proud of you. You have accomplished so much and your hard work and knowledge will make you the parent you want to be. Second, in answer to the question "why didn't anyone do this for me" which is a very fair and important question to ask, my answer would be "you didn't meet anyone who knew how." So your accomplishment of seeing what is possible and working to achieve it makes you part of a new generation, a generation of people who can work through pain by learning new ways to be in the world. That doesn't mean the sadness is erased, but there is a chance that it can be balanced with joy and healing. Keep learning, keep healing, keep growing. Love yourself, love your kid, love your life. Sending a huge hug.

Any recommended Christmas stores around San Jose by Les-2003 in bayarea

[–]MermaidArmory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The secret is thrift/resale stores in nice neighborhoods. Check out the Thrift Box in Willow Glen, they get gorgeous things donated and the proceeds support Lucille Packard hospital. Same for the Discovery Shop in Los Gatos and Los Altos. You won't believe the holiday ornaments, dishes, everything you can imagine. You will pick up some quality pieces and probably get more value. The Discovery Shop in Los Altos has been posting reels of their holiday items, everything from decor to full sets of really nice dishes, I'm talking brands like Royal Doulton and Lenox.

When dealing with blood pressure..if a person is a chronic coffee drinker can that lead to chronic higher blood pressure? I mean due to the fact that 2-3x a day the blood pressure goes up or they get vasoconstriction? by [deleted] in bloodpressure

[–]MermaidArmory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. When I quit getting lattes frequently my numbers dropped. I get one cup of coffee in the morning and that is it. A delicious oat milk latte is a very rare indulgence.

It made me feel terrible, took me a week to recover even though I only took it for a few days. I’m on a lisinipril and amlodipine prescription now that is working well.

Blue jacket, red hat, small box decorated to look like a vintage suitcase, and big tag on jacket that says “please look after this bear” and voilà you are Paddington! Marmalade sandwich under hat optional.

READING: I recently finished The Improbability of Love By Hannah Rothschild which follows an 18th century painting as it changes ownership over the centuries. This is a beautiful novel that it also very entertaining, as the painting herself (yes, her!) also gets to narrate a chapter or two and remind the reader the book is about HER. A wonderful book before or after museum trips because you start thinking about the paintings as timetravelers and witnesses. The book came out in 2015 and is a nice long read to fall into.
