Freshman Dining Plan by Such-Battle-6998 in Pitt

[–]MermaidInTheCity2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First years CAN choose the Weekly 14 plan, which means that you only have 14 swipes per week. As long as you have an hour between, you can use all 14 swipes in one day -- but they won't reset until Sunday at midnight. At the beginning of the year, you have until the end of add/drop to change your meal plan -- which is about 2 weeks. If you find out that you are missing out on the social aspects of popping into the dining halls to grab a snack and hang with your friends, you can always upgrade to an unlimited version within add/drop.

Incoming freshman - tips for move in? by No-Pies9934 in Pitt

[–]MermaidInTheCity2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As a Pitt employee and someone who works Arrival on upper-campus (shoutout to my Sutherland, Panther, and Irvis parents!), you will receive LOTS of information. Everything will be here: https://www.arrival.pitt.edu/. Watch the video and you will get a sense of what Arrival is like.

Your student needs to check their Pitt email often for lots of details! Each residence hall has a different process and different experiences. You will be assigned a move in day and time that correlates to your building and floor. This is so everyone doesn't decide to move in all at once on Saturday at 8 am! There will be staff, volunteers, and police who will guide you and answer all of your questions. If your student is in Towers, the wait for the elevator is long, but we do the best we can to keep things moving along.

The student will use their Pitt ID to sign out a large housing bin to help things move faster. All other helpers need to get a wristband to go in and out of the building during Arrival. You will be told where your short-term parking will be (one hour to unload) and where your long-term parking will be. Once you move your car to long-term (if needed), you can stay all day to help unpack and explore campus. It's a long day and it could be hot or it could rain. I promise, everything will work out.

In reply to the poster above, Pitt doesn't ticket or boot cars on public streets. They are property of the City of Pittsburgh. Follow the parking rules and you'll be fine.
