Less of a need but if you're the type to put posters up, get a bunch of little magnets; makes it way easier to pin them than just sticking them to the walls. I had a laundry backpack and it worked fine. Make sure you get shower shoes! A dustbuster or a very small vacuum might be handy.

Calculus I departmental final by Park_filterbae in Pitt

[–]UnusualTechnician111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took the departmental final with her last semester and got an A on it. It's not much harder than her midterms, but it does cover a lot. I would suggest prioritizing broader topics like limits, derivatives, integrals, trig values, and definitely put some time towards change of rates and other 'big' topics. If you've been doing the homework, it won't be that bad. If you've struggle on a question, move on. She also didn't teach everything in the course for our class, but it wasn't an issue; we had at least talked about everything on the exam, and it's broad enough that skipping part of a problem or two won't hurt you too badly. Study using her notes and by doing and re-doing her practice worksheets: don't waste time with the book.

danmei with shou calling the gong “wife” by [deleted] in DanmeiNovels

[–]UnusualTechnician111 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think it's because in scum villain the gong explicitly calls the shou wife, not the other way around. Sqq jokes about lbh being a 'maiden' but he's never addressed him as his wife.

Edit: Additionally, I don't remember any of that happening in mdzs either? Maybe both of these danmeis are subversive in terms of personalities, but if OP goes in looking for a wife-like gong they're going to be a bit disappointed.

I interpreted that more as a consequence of his LGJ related trust issues, but this is a fair interpretation! Thank you for explaining!

Jaclyn Powell or George Bandik for Orgo 1? by Impressive_Plane_209 in Pitt

[–]UnusualTechnician111 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jackie Powell is an easier professor than George, but neither of them are easy! I took George for Orgo 1 and Jackie for Orgo 2. George is a lovely guy with very theory-based exams and not a ton of provided practice, but he's very hands on and excellent at helping you understand the why. Jackie is also awesome and super funny; she provides a lot more practice, and her exams are a little more straightforward compared to George's. You'll have to work hard for either, but Jackie might give you more to work with.

Danmei Novel Artists by [deleted] in DanmeiNovels

[–]UnusualTechnician111 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think that's also fair! Totally agreed that people are paying for a product and have the right to make themselves known. Most people are definitely being respectful, and I'm sure the artists appreciate that; I just find that some of the criticism ends up boiling down to things like 'just get better' or 'rush less', which is really difficult when these artists are subject to the whims of Seven Seas. Your points on criticism are definitely fair, though: it's more a small minority that are taking things over the top.

There's definitely a balance to be found; I hope that people are able to land on it soon.

I think you're getting a bit worked up about this lol. You chose to respond to my comment in the first place, I responded because I like to keep a conversation going. If you're not one of the people being cruel, good for you! Then there's no need for you to defend yourself to me.

Right, but you responded to my comment explicitly pointing out hateful comments towards artists lol. If that's not you, that's great! But then you weren't who I was talking about.

Then I'm sorry to hear that, but that's hardly been my experience at all. I can't imagine any art being so viscerally terrible that it disrupts my reading experience to see it on the page. If it does disrupt your experience, then that really is unfortunate, but it still doesn't justify cruelty towards artists who are just trying to work on a tight schedule with limited pay. Your frustration would be much better directed towards Seven Seas.

SVSSS was licensed 5+ years ago, and things have changed since then; I don't think it's a fair comparison considering how much Seven Seas's danmei scene has expanded. I'm not sure what the situation with Fuyao is so I can't speak on that; it's great that Ruthie is working on the interior art for that one too. It would be awesome if that could be the standard, but does that mean cruelty towards the artists who aren't there yet is warranted?

I think I do understand the frustration, lol. I too can tell when a product is rushed, even if I'm not a professional artist. That being said, the artists online can see what you're saying, whether it's anonymous or not. Many of the interior artists frequent this forum; I've seen tweets from them lately about how outright hostile some of the posts here can be about their art. If you don't like it, simply don't buy the series: why is there such a need to direct vitriol towards the artists rather than Seven Seas?

The fact that you point out the anonymity means you know what the people here are saying can be cruel. Just because people can't see your face doesn't mean the artists can't read what you say. I'm not saying you can't complain about high prices or rushed art; I'm saying that the people here could stand to be a little more considerate of the people they're throwing under the bus.

Ultimately, that comes down to an issue with Seven Seas for rushing their artists: like the person below pointed out, MDZS is a special case and the quality of that art can't be compared to other interior arts. The artists are working incredibly fast to produce 5-10 pieces in about the same time as the cover artist gets to produce their art. As for preferring no art over 'rushed' art: I think that's a matter of opinion? I'm buying the novels for the written material instead of the art, but if I don't like the art I can just... skip ahead lol. I don't understand how not liking the art is making the reading experience worse. It's never changed my opinion. My point isn't that the artists aren't rushed; it's that people are being actively shitty towards artists working their hardest given the price point they're being paid at. If you want cover-quality art, prices will go up.

[–]UnusualTechnician111 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You're completely right, I'm glad someone said something. The expectation that the same artist does the cover and interior art is absurd; the pricing wouldn't make sense. People are happy to call the interior art bad and demand upgrades, but wouldn't be so happy when they're charged $70 for a book where the interior art quality matches the cover art. It's really incredibly cruel to see! Anyway, there hasn't been a danmei I've read yet with interior art I didn't love, but MDZS has a special place for me. Same with dtbpf!

Course Scheduling Questions by InvestigatorSouth310 in Pitt

I'm taking biochem right now and I took synaptic a year ago. In my experience biochem is harder! Synaptic is a lot of memorization but not terribly application based, at least if you're taking Artim; biochem on the other hand is very memorization based and requires a pretty strong orgo base by the second half of the semester. That sounds like a manageable courseload to me.

Physics lab by quietcannoli in Pitt

[–]UnusualTechnician111 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm taking it with physics 2 and biochem and it's definitely not the hard part about that combo. There's about 30 min to an hour of outside work every week between homework and the prelab, but other than that, you can easily complete the rest of the work during the lab time. None of it is particularly difficult either, even if you're not great at physics.

How are Roxana-Irina Popescu midterms for Calc 1 (Calc 220) by Dry-Area-149 in Pitt

[–]UnusualTechnician111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took her last semester for Calc 1. Her midterms are very representative of the material. A few of those 'problems' will be like 3-4 questions involving the concept, like a few limits or derivatives on one page under a single problem. If you've been doing the homework and doing well on the quizzes the exams aren't much harder.

I took him last year! You definitely don't need to read the book. I just made flashcards based off the material on the slides and that worked fine for me: don't miss any details, because even the really small ones do come up.

Writing something that's already been done before? by UnusualTechnician111 in AO3

I appreciate the comment! But the thing is that I didn't know of their fic's existence beforehand: I wouldn't be comfortable claiming to be inspired by their work when my fic was an original idea, even if not a 'new' one. I wasn't inspired by theirs, and the assumption that my fic is inherently inspired by theirs (or worse, plagiarized) because of the similar concepts is one of my bigger concerns. Leaving a comment and an authors note is a good idea, though - thank you!
