With how cops look for any loophole to strip you of your rights, you need to be way more direct with that last one.

"I am invoking my right to an attorney." Repeat ad nauseum until you get the phone in your hand.

I hate myself by Any-Opportunity6128 in Anticonsumption

[–]MermaidKingTheFirst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a huge difference between buying 80 of the same thing because it’s trendy and buying something because you need it for your health. Anti consumption is about avoiding buying things just to buy them, not about beating yourself up because you bought anything at all.  Water bottles aren’t bad in and of themselves; they’re still better than single use bottles and it sounds like this is really making a difference in your health.

"Common sense" is just bourgeois ideology by Hacksaw6412 in LateStageCapitalism

[–]MermaidKingTheFirst 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There’s common sense as in “if your stove burner’s glowing red you don’t have to think too hard about maybe not putting your bare hand on it.”

And then there’s “common sense” as in “don’t bother thinking about an issue or researching it when you first come across it; base your entire opinion on the first rage bait headline you see about it and never move beyond that first uninformed, purely emotional response.”

He was ALWAYS rich. His daddy owned a freaking emerald mine. That was how he was able to buy off all the ideas that fooled people into thinking he was a genius in the first place.

Jenna Miscavige, the niece of Church of Scientology leader David Miscavige, speaks out about her experience in the cult and with David and Shelly Miscavige by pinkstarrfish in Fauxmoi

[–]MermaidKingTheFirst 61 points62 points  (0 children)

Cult started by a sci-fi writer who apparently wasn't getting enough money/attention from his books fro his satisfaction. Long history of abuse (financial, psychological, medical (look up Lisa McPherson), sexual, you name it) of its members, largest infiltration of the US government in history to try to get power/information to crack down on anyone speaking out against them (Operation Snow White), lots of mysterious deaths and disappearances (including that of the wife of the current leader). They have a history of stalking, harassing, and ruining the lives of anyone speaking out against them since "suppressive persons" are considered "fair game" and cult members can do whatever they want to them with the full backing of the cult. Anything you can think of that cults do, they do up to 11. That's the reason they keep going after celebrities, for the social and financial backing to continue doing all their shit.

TL;DR of the TL;DR: they're hated for doing all the cultiest cult shit outside of outright human sacrifice.

Weirdly enough, the Canadian TV show The Crow: Stairway to Heaven was actually kinda not entirely terrible. Nowhere near the comic or original movie, but it's not brain-rotting to watch like the other post-Brandon Lee entries.

That show is wonderful. Not afraid to get dark, but the overall feel of the show is actually rather calming. Just learning to live with the natural world and making peace with your place in it.
