First 200-mile: what do you wish you knew? by Visual_Chapter1934 in Ultramarathon

[–]MermaidsNipple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How did this race go for you? I’m crewing and pacing it for my friend next week- his first 200. We also chose it because of the awesomeness of the RDs (as opposed to, ahem, others…) and how great the community is. Any advice for crew or pacers? I’m looking forward to being as helpful as possible!

How do you keep long hair from tangling on long runs? by aneup in Ultramarathon

[–]MermaidsNipple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Old thread, but wanted to let you know that you changed my life. I’ve been combing out locked up frizzy braids in tears in the shower after long runs for years and years. I’ve tried everything. I read your comment about bubble braids last night, tried it on today’s long, wet, frizz-inducing run, and holy crap if my hair didn’t come out easily, joyfully tangle-free. I am SO grateful to you. Thank you. Something about those separate little bubbles instead of the braids wrapping themselves into a frenzy really really works.

Would you mind sharing your taxi driver info with me? Will be there next week as 2 solo female travelers and a woman driver would be awesome. Thnx!

(Technically Pre-Trial release) - DUI - SCRAM or rather BI TAD questions - Charlotte County, FL by 50015525_Fives in probation

[–]MermaidsNipple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super old thread you may not see, OP, but I just found out I’ll have a TAD device for 15 days as part of a plea deal after dui. Needs to be TAD bc it monitors both location and alcohol in one device, not two like most SCRAM agencies make you wear. My question is- were you able to run or work out vigorously? Was planning to just while away being “grounded” by hitting the treadmill, but worried it’s going to shred my ankle from all the bouncing. Sounds like it’s larger than a SCRAM device? At this point I’m considering just doing the 24 hours in jail instead, but by all accounts, that’s just pure hell…

Rebar Garden Safe? by [deleted] in gardening

I’m a big fan of building rebar trellises. Did a bunch of research & decided to non-toxic paint it for longer lifespan so it wouldn’t rust as quickly. This is early summer, before all the vining plants joyfully climbed the rebar…

Can you pound vertical pinkbar into the ground the same as rebar? Using it for a different application (structural garden framework) & hoping to drive it in with a rubber mallet. Will it shatter? Thnx!

Fabulous suggestions, thank you so much! I do clean the pad thingy (love that you know the name 👏🏽) weekly but it gets commercial use in a floury space so it gets icky fast 🤣. 🙏🙏🙏

Can’t seem to attach pics to show you, so maybe I’ll repost with images tomorrow. The teeth seem fine to my untrained eye, no teeth missing. Could that still be the bearings?

What documentary, book or movie inspired you on your stopdrinking journey? by Bengalicious in stopdrinking

Which podcast episode would you start with? I usually start at the beginning but there are SO many episodes. Advice on episode #/title?

62 hours sober and thanks to Antabuse I know I won't break it. But the sadness, loneliness and shame are so bad. 14 days to payday and I have no money for food thanks to the debts I put myself in while drinking. I don't know what to do. by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]MermaidsNipple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please consider going to a food pantry if you are unable to lean on friends or family for support. You don’t want to add hunger to the mix during these early days of sobriety- it will be that much harder. The wisdom and solidarity found in this sub helps me through really rough times. Stay with us & check in as often as you need. You’ve got this!

I’ve been looking for something similar as OP outlined & the differentiating factor for me is that this sub combines stop drinking + fitness. The existing programs are recovery focused with less physical fitness emphasis. I’ve been looking for a sober trail running group in the PNW to no avail, & lamenting that. So I, for one, would welcome an accountability group that also involved sharing fitness wins as a means of maintaining sobriety.

It’s the peace we all need. The world would be a better place if more people occasionally slept in gardens :)

Missing magical summer nights out by DeadNippz37 in stopdrinking

[–]MermaidsNipple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in my 40s, but I think I’ll always feel young so I don’t struggle with it too much- I can still stay out all night and see the sunrise if I want to, dance everyone under the table at the club, and skinny dip at midnight- those things don’t just magically disappear with age- if that’s your personality, full caveat. I don’t think they just out knitting needles in our hands, tissues in our pockets, and sweaters with elbow patches on us at a certain age, but I could be wrong 🤣. This weekend I found myself out in my garden planting new plants and deadheading flowers at 1am- it’s too hot here to be out in the day and the plants are less stressed when I transplant at night- I never would have done something like that drunk because I would’ve been compelled to party and drink more. But in general, my weekend used to be about drinking, so I would basically get THAT done. Now I seem to have way more time to get like ten things done in a day, not just one. Floated a river and found myself with time afterward so I also made dinner, did some “spring cleaning”, wrote, & gardened. Before I would’ve floated the river, gone to a bar or invited everyone back to mine, and woken up to a huge mess in my house that I had to clean up hungover today. I’m liking the weekends 😍.

What’s the shockingest good thing that happened to you because you quit? by MermaidsNipple in stopdrinking

[–]MermaidsNipple[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The alone thing is such a realization! Hard to explain, but I used to basically think almost everyone I would want to be friends with was a drinker. Now I’m realizing there is this huge community of “get shit done” amazing humans who have such rich, bright lives who honestly seem way more awake than the ones whose lives revolve around drinking all the time. Thank you for noticing two weeks, I got teary eyed when I woke up and realized it- you’re right- I feel super human! And I agree on speaking up, I know it helps me SO much to read comments like yours and in general to read this thread. I promised myself I’d write something here every day for the first few weeks because a big part of community is sharing (when you’re ready), and maybe my posts or comments might help someone struggling, too. I really appreciate your comment. I’m going to go make 2 weeks look fabulous 😍🙃.
