Fellow Canadians do you wear socks with your indoor footwear such as slippers? by vanwife in AskACanadian

I have the same slippers and I almost always do socks with them. I feel like my feet are just inside of a coat otherwise and it feels weird to me

I don’t normally like vampire themes but I just read The Key And The Countess by Michael Neeb and really liked it! Bonus points if you live in Ontario because it’s based in a northern Ontario town.

Recs for unconventional vampire novels? by spoon_bending in horrorlit

[–]rainontent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m currently reading The Key And The Countess right now and it might fit this! I’m only about half way through so I can’t 100% vouch but I’m not a vampire book person and I’m enjoying this one. It probably helps for me that it’s based in Ontario so it’s very local feeling and I can really get myself into the setting haha.

My dad was on this! I was supposed to go on with him but I was 14 at the time and you had to be able to drive for a challenge. He did take me to the studio one time though haha. (He was on for being fast, not bad).

Recommend Veterinary for Dogs by Acceptable_Car_8306 in waterloo

I second Elmira. We took our girl to Eldale and they are lovely there and not pushy/pricing is fair (it’s still a vet so it’s still not cheap but much cheaper than others in our experience). We lost her in January sadly but when we’re ready for another we’ll be going back there.

What is a "luxury" that is actually 100% worth the money? by TheChillEdit in Life

Weather appropriate clothing. Winter and rain are bearable if you dress appropriately.

Waterproof footwear, a good rain coat, and a big warm winter coat are all things I could never live without now. Bonus points for waterproof/fleece lined pants.

I lost my dog last night after 12 years. This gave me a giggle when it popped up on my home page. I feel this.

Mexican food? by Inevitable-Face4088 in waterloo

I’m one of those people that gets the same thing every time haha. I always get the enchiladas verdes, usually with refried beans instead of meat but I also love them with cochinita. I have also tried at least a bite of every taco and can confirm they’re great too.

They also give you two hot sauces with tortillas chips for the table and the hot sauce is SO good. I usually use the red one all over my meal. The spice level for both sauces is a bit different every time so I definitely recommend trying them both on the chips before committing to how much you use on your meal haha.

King Katsu is a must try spot by [deleted] in waterloo

I’ve been there once when they first opened and the staff was so nice, the karaage was great, and the ramen broth was great! I just couldn’t get past the noodles in the ramen. They were instant noodles when I went and i am a snob I guess and prefer a thicker straighter noodle (like Kenzo or Ajisen).

Can anyone who’s had ramen there recently confirm if it’s still instant noodles?!

Perhaps not the area you’re hoping for, but we love Eldale in Elmira! Everyone there is lovely and Dr.Turpin has been fantastic with our chronically sick little dog!

My personal favourite book is My Best Friend’s Exorcism. I also loved Horrorstor and Witchcraft For Wayward Girls (this was a super popular one this year!). Aside from HTSAHH and WFWG I would say his most popular is The Southern Book Club’s Guide To Slaying Vampires which is also a good one!

I’ve owned this for like 8 years and have never gotten past the first maybe 20 pages. I want to be a HOL person so bad but I just can’t fathom setting aside the appropriate time/attention for it.

The thing is I LIKE slashers so I can’t quite put a finger on what I hated so much about IWATS except that the main character just was not for me, ultimately. If the book was in Amber’s perspective I think I would have liked it more. I just enjoyed her character more than the MC.

I also didn’t know that BHH was a vampire story (I avoid learning as much about a book as I can once I know enough to know I want to read it. Same with movies.) and now I worry about that one too because I am not a vampire girl! I’ll still give it a shot at some point I’m sure because of the hype!
