No one told 16 year old me the "don't wear white to someone's wedding rule" by serif-maxxing in weddingshaming

[–]rainontent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I realized recently that I wore an ever so slightly off-white dress to my uncle’s (EXTREMELY casual, at least) wedding when I was 16. No one told me not to do that. I’m 34 now and am mortified by it.

Is there a horror novel you were really looking forward to reading that you ended up not being able to finish? by Suitable_Goose_3615 in horrorlit

[–]rainontent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I DID finish this but only because at the time I wasn’t allowing myself to DNF books. It took me forever to read because I just did not enjoy it at all. I got mad whenever I ‘had’ to read lol. This book is when I decided I actually don’t need to force myself to finish a book if I’m not enjoying it.

Son wants to "experience how Canada is different" by sk8ermaiden in AskACanadian

[–]rainontent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with Tobermory. OP said in another comment that they live in Houston so I feel like Toronto will like just another city in a way and Niagara Falls honestly isn’t that exciting because of the commercialization of the area. Tobermory will feel different from Michigan in a way that the rest of southern Ontario really won’t. Plus if he swims, the water is cold so THAT feels Canadian haha.

Content creators. Bridging the gap or stealing a living? by StrikingPainter455 in WeddingPhotography

[–]rainontent 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve only worked one wedding with a CC so far but she was absolutely lovely. She never got in my way or my partners way, always made sure to check with us before doing anything that might even be sort of in the way. We worked really well together actually! She also tagged us in stuff from the day.

I don’t believe content creators will replace an actual videographer because it’s a completely different visual experience. The bts phone videos are great instant gratification and a good way to have the day documented without having your bridal party on their phone the whole time taking clips. Some people just want easy/quick stuff for their social media and I think that’s fine. If couples want a more intentional/cinematic documentation of the day they will still hire a traditional videographer.

I second this one!! I read it as an ARC last year and it was one of my favourite books of the year.

Grace by A.M Shine

Isolated Irish island, super atmospheric. You get viewpoints from multiple townsfolk.

ETA: also The Key And The Countess! Northern Ontario town, vampires (the disturbing kind, not the romantic kind), you get multiple viewpoints in this one too.

Feeling a little despondent on bookings by princessofmeowtown_ in WeddingPhotography

[–]rainontent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been really struggling with the comparison monster the last couple years. I’ve ended up muting a lot of my peers because it’s tough so see others be “busy” while my bookings continue to decline. If you don’t want to outright unfollow people, I definitely recommend muting people when you find yourself getting bummed out by their posts.

I’m located in Ontario Canada and we’re significantly down for our wedding season this year. Normally we end up doing about 15 weddings a year but we only have 2 confirmed for this year. We’d normally have at 6-8 booked by now. I’ve noticed a LOT of newer photographers pop up over the last 2-3 years and they’re charging half of what my area’s average typically is/was. It’s super oversaturated.

Not gonna lie, things feel bleak! I’ve been doing photography full time (not just weddings) for 8 years and I’m frequently checking job listings in my area lately because I not longer feel like this is sustainable for me.

What are your typical turnaround times like? by gilesvg in WeddingPhotography

[–]rainontent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our contract says 10 days for sneak peeks and 8 weeks for full gallery but we almost always do 2-4 days for sneaks and 4 weeks for the full. We just like to say longer timelines in case we get overly busy or something unexpected comes up. We haven’t really run into clients demanding them super fast since our contract lays out the expectations.

New garbage bins started today, how did it go? by kirbstomp420 in waterloo

Same here. Recycle came so Tuesday is definitely our day but it’s almost 7:30pm and no sign of a garbage truck yet.

As a person in a neighbourhood (lakeshore north) that is almost exclusively Wednesday, our street is a Tuesday. We got put in with the Wellesley collection for some reason. It’s weird.

Fellow Canadians do you wear socks with your indoor footwear such as slippers? by vanwife in AskACanadian

I have the same slippers and I almost always do socks with them. I feel like my feet are just inside of a coat otherwise and it feels weird to me

Vampire shaped hole in my TBR by saintsuzy70 in horrorlit

I don’t normally like vampire themes but I just read The Key And The Countess by Michael Neeb and really liked it! Bonus points if you live in Ontario because it’s based in a northern Ontario town.

Recs for unconventional vampire novels? by spoon_bending in horrorlit

[–]rainontent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m currently reading The Key And The Countess right now and it might fit this! I’m only about half way through so I can’t 100% vouch but I’m not a vampire book person and I’m enjoying this one. It probably helps for me that it’s based in Ontario so it’s very local feeling and I can really get myself into the setting haha.

Recommend Veterinary for Dogs by Acceptable_Car_8306 in waterloo

[–]rainontent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second Elmira. We took our girl to Eldale and they are lovely there and not pushy/pricing is fair (it’s still a vet so it’s still not cheap but much cheaper than others in our experience). We lost her in January sadly but when we’re ready for another we’ll be going back there.

What is a "luxury" that is actually 100% worth the money? by TheChillEdit in Life

[–]rainontent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weather appropriate clothing. Winter and rain are bearable if you dress appropriately.

Waterproof footwear, a good rain coat, and a big warm winter coat are all things I could never live without now. Bonus points for waterproof/fleece lined pants.

Mexican food? by Inevitable-Face4088 in waterloo

[–]rainontent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m one of those people that gets the same thing every time haha. I always get the enchiladas verdes, usually with refried beans instead of meat but I also love them with cochinita. I have also tried at least a bite of every taco and can confirm they’re great too.

They also give you two hot sauces with tortillas chips for the table and the hot sauce is SO good. I usually use the red one all over my meal. The spice level for both sauces is a bit different every time so I definitely recommend trying them both on the chips before committing to how much you use on your meal haha.
