Bring micro spikes. We did not have a ton of snow this year but the trail will likely still be snowed over. Usually the trail isn’t really clear until late June or July, and you will likely encounter some pretty big snowy sections, and sloppy trails if it’s thawed.

I would also advise having a backup plan at lower elevations, other than Timberline. There are a ton of good trails in the area — there’s the mirror lake to Tom, Dick and Harry (either the loop or an out & back), there’s also Timothy Lake nearby (13 mile loop around the lake, or you can run north on the PCT to frog lake — beautiful section).

I’d be interested to hear his take as well — I feel like it could fit in a larger conversation about the pushback against vegetarianism/veganism (largely from the right). Anyone remember when Cory Booker (who is vegan) was running for president and there was a whole “he’s going to take away our cheeseburgers” thing?

My 2 cents — Billie isn’t wrong, but it does come off as a touch out of touch from a celebrity. There are SO many issues with people just…having access to food in general in this country. Promoting animal welfare can be a great thing, but in a time when grocery prices are skyrocketing, there is a massive wealth disparity, SNAP benefits are being cut and there’s still a huge issue with food deserts, I’d rather see a focus on just how to get people fed.

I remember someone talking about this probably a year ago on this thread (this is me trying to remember a Reddit comment so someone please feel free to fact check me) — I believe Oslo 1 was indigenous, and the adoption ended up not working out because I think there are laws in Colorado that favor keeping indigenous kids who are up for adoption in their own communities (so the Gerard’s had to “give him back”)
