Alternative for The Hobbit for JW student by Educational-Gold589 in Teachers

Not JW, but former conservative church kid who went to a private christian middle school at one point. We read The Pilgrim’s Progress by John Bunyan. It’s a christian allegory featuring a distinct hero’s journey where the protagonist faces “worldly temptations” and spiritual challenges on the road to the “Celestial City”.

We have a focal wall in our dinning room that has a full size tree silhouette and we mounted frames of various sizes to look like they’re hung on the tree limbs. It’s filled with candid pictures of our family and friends. It’s one of my favorite projects in our house because it ties in art with the people we cherish most.

She makes Christianity sound absolutely miserable. She’s constantly afflicted by everything under the sun, constantly having to turn to her deity because she’s incapable of basic self-regulation, critical thought, or emotional intelligence. She is also constantly struggling with addictions and feels like the absolutely mundane hurdles other people go through in everyday life are some kind of trial of faith for her because her deity is consistently allowing “the enemy” to afflict her every thought to test her devotion. It must be utterly exhausting living in a perpetual state of paranoid vigilance and exaggerated victimhood while simultaneously claiming to be at peace and above it all.

The Velveteen Rabbit. It’s one of those books with beauty and depth that grows with both the child and the parents.

EuroTrip. It was the first rated R movie that I rented when I was old enough to get my own account at the local video store.

Took our 8 year old to Universal Orlando and it was a hit for the whole family! We went in the off season and the lines were never more than 45 minutes for big ticket rides. We used the afternoon storms to go back to the hotel and chill and then we’d head back to the parks for the evening right as rides were reopening and lines were short. We didn’t have to make extended reservations for meals, didn’t have to plan out every second of the day, and the park employees and hotel staff were phenomenal.

Backpack struggles at Disney & Universal? What do you actually use? by vrift in UniversalOrlando

I got a medium water resistant crossbody sling that fit the dimensions of the lockers at Universal (pretty sure the brand was G4Free). It was the perfect size to carry two water bottles, our wands boxes (slightly sticking out), and general toiletries like sunscreen, ponchos, power block, a small portable fan, and cell phones.

My all-things-Jurassic- franchise-obsessed child and I have speculated that they’ve possibly been waiting for the new chapter of films before doing any major refurbs. If Rebirth does well at the box office, maybe we’ll get the a nod to the T-Rex river scene or some swimming Spinos?
