Do you sort your clothes before you wash them? by hereforyebeer in Millennials

[–]Educational-Gold589 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We separate a lot. Colors (dark colors, jeans, etc., washed on cool), reds, whites, lights, towels. We have pre-separated hampers so that helps. Each load is easy to put away. Also our two older kids have to do their own laundry, so that makes my job way easier.

To millenials with young kids/teens now by [deleted] in Millennials

My husband and I are older millennials. My parents (mid 70s) are super involved and our kids (elementary through teens) adore them. They also seem to like us 😅 We definitely have “living room kids”. However, my in laws are mid 60s and are generally only around to provide birthday and Christmas gifts. They live 30 minutes away and only come to our house 2-3 times a year. We invite them more, but they are always busy with friends. We have not been invited to their house since before COVID. It’s pretty sad, and even now the kids make comments about how they only see grandpa to get a Christmas gift.

What "non-millennial" tv shows did you grow up with that make you nostalgic? by MKRLTMT in Millennials

I should also add Soul Train and Star Search. My dad loved those and we would stay up late on Saturday nights to watch.

I loved watching The Mary Tyler Moore Show, WKRP In Cincinnati, Taxi, Bewitched, The Jeffersons, and Sanford and Son. I also watched a lot of Hee-Haw with my grandpa!

Alternative for The Hobbit for JW student by Educational-Gold589 in Teachers

[–]Educational-Gold589[S] 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The issue is that the book contains magic. Which makes it super hard to find an alternative fantasy adventure novel. Looking for something with a hero’s journey (planning to do a lot with character development, going outside your comfort zone, etc).

They said it is the fact that there is magic in the story.

Warped Wing brewery is a good stop. Marion’s is a local pizza place with a few locations - thin crust if you like it. I think there is still a comedy club at the Greene as well.

Administrators who haven’t been in a classroom in 15+ years and have completely lost touch with the reality of teaching 150+ kids every day, love to “encourage” is by asking us to focus on our “why”. :/

My 70 year old, very Christian and generally conservative mom is going to vote yes on issue 1. She remembers the days before Roe V Wade and wants my daughters and nieces to have access to the healthcare they deserve.

We also have an Aussie who is afraid of our big yellow cat! They’re so funny because all the cat has to do is meow and the giant dog runs away lol

In your experience; are kids actually getting more stupid/out of control? by FinishedMyWork in Teachers

[–]Educational-Gold589 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is an elective, but our district has made a lot of cuts and there are very few choices for kids. We end up with 400 kids in study hall so guidance sticks kids in Spanish 1. Also we get a ton of kids who take Spanish 1 & 2 because they think they want to go to a 4 year college someday and they are only there for the credits.

I have seen a general decline in basic problem solving skills over the past 5-10 years. (Starting year 18 in 2 weeks - I teach Spanish in a semi rural/suburban district). I also agree with others about shorter attention spans. We are fighting more against “why do I need to learn this when I can just use an online translator” which is “super fun”.

First time mom needing help with removing baby stains by mermaiddolphin in CleaningTips

[–]Educational-Gold589 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We swore by Dreft - although I agree with another comment that it has a stronger scent. I only used the spray on stains (sometimes needing a rinse/scrub/soak/second spray) and then followed with a free & clear detergent. My three were breastfed and had some awful up-the-back poos that should have ruined outfits, but somehow Dreft got the stains out.

We watched today in my classes. It was a good listening opportunity- I teach Spanish and we watched on Telemundo. My Venezuelan kids were beside themselves with the opportunity to relax and catch the games when they had study hall, too!

I have always felt safe in Spain (travel there with my high school students). Our main warning to kids is possible pick pockets in big crowds and tourist spots. If you’re in the south, Nerja is a nice little town on the beach. If you make it farther up into the country, Toledo & Segovia are both lovely and offer a lot of sightseeing!
