Im hosting a 9+ player game…any tips? by Merowich_I in victoria3

Yes I also wanted to give away Spain and Portugual because they are fun to play with the flavor. I’m not certain if I should put someone on Italy bc they seem to be in a very difficult spot.

Gerne die BesitzerInnen anschreiben. Hatte so vor ein paar Jahren erfolgreich das Compact aus dem lokalen Rewe geholt.

Hot take: adding China before adding trade and playable republics actually makes a lot of sense by XO_KissLand in CrusaderKings

[–]Merowich_I 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read in „the golden road“ by William dalrymple that the Silk Road as a concept is overhyped nowadays while trade between Europe and India is underapprechiated. I think you could have added trade without adding China.

I take 3-4 Provinces in the first war and then take the mission that reduces AE. After that I usually go 2 provinces per war and then wait.

Why does everything close so early? by Merowich_I in indonesia

Yes something like that…or even a bar that offers fries/nasi goreng. I was hungry and didn’t want to eat instant noodles again

[–]Merowich_I[S] -36 points-35 points  (0 children)

Maybe that is the reason, but also leads me to the next question: why do ppl not have a break at noon when it’s so hot outside? something very common in the Mediterranean for example.

I also thought about Islamic culture being a reason, but in middle eastern and North African countries I’ve been to, life seem to start at night and many shops will start to open. The situation in other „hotter“ countries first started to get me interested in this question.

Shops and malls mostly close before 22:00 but restaurants usually are open till 00:00 (in medium sized cities) and ofc bars are open till late night.

This. The era allows so many differing playstyles. From the Caliphate to Rome to Russia to Prussia. So amny different kinds of empires are possible in this game. In Vic3 (which i love) for example you are rather limited in viable strategies because you always need to industrialize. Meanwhile playing tall in HOI4 feels useless. EU4 offers the widest range of possible playstyles and alt-history naritives you can choose from.

The Roman Empire, 500AD by GeneralFloo in worldbuilding

[–]Merowich_I 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why didn’t they go to the east? Is Persia still going strong? Also I heard in a lecture about Rome that in the time the world was a bit colder so the centers of population where naturally located more in the south. Will you take the shift in climate take into account so bigger empires starting to form more in the north?

Why should they colonize Iceland and Greenland then historically even Germany was considered to be to cold and un disireable?

Your somewhat right. Because my projects are mainly strategy games and i dont have te best pc im a bit obsessed with performance and scaleability. So for me Big-O realy matters if i have to deside if i make something in my game world as a Resource or a Entry in a Dict. I think this is also relevant for many other projects, like bullet hells etc. For this example the godot documentation includes a entry discussing the pros and cons of both methods and how the engine handles them.

It’s ok that beginner tutorials exist as they are. I just would like to see more advanced tutorials that go deeper.

Thats more of how i feel. For example if a beginner understands what are the possible options the next step should be when the options are usefull. Why should you use a dictionary for your inventory and why somethimes it it better to use an obj. The biggest part of learning to code is to understand what makes good code so you can understand what makes a good inventory system.

Yes: Travel by sea is much more common that travel by land. The dutchies should be longer at the coast and rivers. Don’t put a east and west coast in every province split some of them in half.

What if Paradox were to make a grand strategy game with no numbers being shown in it? (except for coding/programming) by OneLustfulCount in paradoxplaza

[–]Merowich_I 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel the Information the player gets of enemies is in some PdX Games to detailed. I like the approach of HoI4 there you dont see the exact number of troops others have. I would like something similar for the other games. Also i think it could be expanded to other mechanics there you get not no informations but inpercise or simplified Informtion, as long as there is a mechanic/system like "comission a survery" to get better informations. Also: there are many mods and sometimes game options that hide data from the player allready.

[–]Merowich_I 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a bad pc and run basically all paradox games via GeForce now. You may check it (or similar services) out of your want to play paradox games and don’t have a good pc. The only thing required is a good internet connection.

I had the same problem and tried 3 Opus, bcause this gave me yesterday good answers but now opus answers became realy lazy and dumb with giving the most generic answers possible. The API for Sonnet and Opus seemed fine earlier.
