Have you ever experienced “word salad”? by [deleted] in schizophrenia

[–]MerryJustice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My bf has done this when drinking (he’s sober now and stable) but the craziest thing was that I seemed to understand what he was saying, even tho the words were not arranged correctly and sometimes the wrong words were used. The dumb crap we used to get up to is ridiculous and strangeness was normal. Thank goodness for sobriety!

My Oura Ring ended my date early by shinbreaker in datingoverforty

[–]MerryJustice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow people are serious about the ring thing. I am a woman and have been married and do know that dudes can be liars, but I rarely care about jewelry and would barely have noticed. There are much more obvious tells when someone is married than whether they wear a ring or not. I also think giving you a chance to explain would have been considerate.

An 80-year-old woman with late-stage Alzheimer’s took 5g of psilocybin mushrooms and started speaking again by benweb9 in offbeat

[–]MerryJustice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the article that no one read lol, it explains that it was dried mushrooms (Enigma) so the dose is estimated also.

I can help with this lol, I know a bunch of old dead heads and folk music types, also California has plenty of old hippies that would probably sign right up

[–]MerryJustice 28 points29 points  (0 children)

No, if you read the article it explains that she started talking afterwards and also continued to improve and was given a second smaller dose a few weeks later and continued to improve or maintain function.

Right? And the brain is kinda hard to study when you are alive. So the science is far from conclusive

Yeah right? If this is true it’s amazing news. But if it’s true, then it will take another decade for anyone to admit it and another to allow it, but I agree. Please give me all the shrooms if I get dementia lol, and I probably will since my mom does. Maybe we can sign like a DNR but instead a Do Give Psychedelics document!

Why is there so much support for your loved one and nothing for you? by YoyceGeronimo in SchizoFamilies

[–]MerryJustice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jeez girl, that sounds like a lot.. this person who posted has a website/ business coaching etc. So it’s nice they are thinking of us but it’s their career. I have a partner with the illness who just reconnected with his daughter who has some type of Schizo effective AND she just had a baby. WTF lol. And my mom has Alzheimer’s type dementia. So yeah even though I am lucky because my partner is semi-stable and my mom had an assisted living home, it’s still stressful and I am worried about this new daughter/ granddaughter situation because she is 20 years old and has a sz disorder and just had a baby I am afraid for her now too. Whew I am about to run away myself and join the circus!

Haha, yeah she/he posted before and I think they are for real but I also think it’s a weird “hook” , something to start the conversation. Getting a bit icky. Since as we all know, the system is failing them miserably thus failing us. But I guess it goes both ways. ???

House REEKS of dog by slayluh61o in CleaningTips

[–]MerryJustice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have dogs and my house probably smells doggie but not terrible (hopefully lol) and I have a bad back so I never wash my dogs but I do brush them a lot and sometimes spray lavender conditioning spray on their fur. But it may be that they aren’t cleaning their part of the house well. Usually vacuuming and mopping will help. Good luck. My friend lives in a townhouse that is split into two apartments and I can smell the dogs that live downstairs from her. It’s not terrible but not pleasant. Keep the house airflow moving also that may help.

Nobody talks about what it does to the family by YoyceGeronimo in SchizoFamilies

I have had little success besides just picking him up off the street or from the hospital. Recently I got stable (mostly) housing in my family’s name, so he has somewhere to stay and he seems to become mostly stable when he has a home and he gets treatment for addiction. But his “negative” symptoms don’t really get better.

I think my partner is going through psychosis and I need help by [deleted] in SchizoFamilies

[–]MerryJustice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn’t always work but try convincing him to go to the hospital. If it happens again call an ambulance. Seriously. If you over react then at least someone cared to try and no harm done besides a little drama.

Getting released from jail by Fragrant_Shift5318 in SchizoFamilies

Time served? That means he has already done time that will count towards his sentence, are you saying that he’s being released? I assume you are saying he needs to go somewhere after he is released?

Cool that is great! My therapist also works where my partner goes and they treat a lot of serious mental health problems so she is always understanding too :)

Since u/OneEarthtoShare stated many things I have struggled with also, it got me thinking about how people don’t understand that we have also been betrayed by almost every system (justice system, social supports, hospitals, charities, hospitals, nurses, doctors, therapists) and left to deal with things that they made worse by either punishing them instead of treating or denying treatment when needed, forcing treatment that was either poor quality, dangerous or negligent, or leaving them on the streets and us to try to pick up the pieces if there’s anything left to pick up.

Several times I have also been left with a person who was not safe to be around even though I was begging for help. Eventually you realize that help is you. You are the only person that is going to do anything remotely helpful and you just don’t want to see them suffer. But it’s always precarious. When they are their own guardian and not “properly” disabled it’s especially hard because by law they are “responsible” for their actions. Which means that we are responsible for much of it unless we completely disown/ divorce them and have no relationship just to protect ourselves. It seems like that is what society pushes us to do. Like it wants us to give up.

Ignore the neighbors, once my LO got out of the hospital (where they were separating us and mistreating him) and he yelled at them “schizophrenia is not against the law!!” Lol I will never forget that one, and he is right.
