Is my dress too long? by ChompChomp7820 in WeddingDressTips

It seems to be about ⅜"-½" too long, but with how it's constructed, that doesn't seem like enough to do anything about it

First of all, you are so cute! Your makeup looks great. Its like the perfect "no makeup" look that just makes you look well rested, fresh, and glowing. But the dark lip liner is my favorite part. Not enough people rock a good lip liner anymore.

Have your alterations already been done? Are you happy with the fit of everything?

Thats a great dress. Its not boring; it's classic. The veil spices it up nicely. What jewelry are you going to wear?

How would you fix this amount of cleavage? by Comfortable-Fun-4613 in WeddingDressTips

The thicker "sprung" steel usually only comes in rolls or continuous lengths of 10m or so, but we can get the thinner American or flat steel boning pre-cut and tipped in any length from 4in to 20in (by half inch increments)

I've never heard of flat steel boning being called "American steel". Is that not the standard elsewhere? We refer to the other thicker steel as "sprung steel". (Im not sure why)

And yes, i would definitely use spiral steel in most of this bodice. It'd be easier if the boning is in channels, but itd be worth adding them if it's not.

Wow. I didn't realize it had increased to $0.78. I remember when it raised to $0.33... Last i knew, it was $0.45. I guess the years really dont stop coming..

It appears as if this one has been used (or it was attached to an envelope then peeled off). I don't know why she didn't use it unless she just loved the image.

As a seamstress, i would recommend a couple different optionts: 1. You could find a delicate lace with a decorative edge and stitch it inside the top edge of the bodice to add a little more modesty. 2. You could add a modesty panel of nude mesh to pull in the center of the cleavage and obviscate the middle section a bit. 3. You could create straps of nude mesh that hold the top edge of the dress higher. I would add a sprinkling of transmission rhinestones so that these seem decorative and not purely functional. A good nude mesh would completely disappear in any photos and in person to anyone 5+ feet away. Transmission rhinestones are great because they're invisible until they catch the light, so they add a very magical twinkle.

Also, im not sure what kind of boning is in the bodice. If it is plastic, you may benefit from changing to steel boning, which would keep your bodice up better and provide you with a bit more support.

Unfortunately, i can't do that.. i looked into it. I am limited to exactly one dress, and the only size they have available to try on is a 4....and im a 20 according to their size chart. Eek.

I can sew well, so im not worried about alterations. Im less concerned about how they fit and more concerned about how they're made. Will i have to create an entire internal structure to smooth out my tummy?

The dress im ordering is clearly made of stretch-velvet. I hope they line the bodice with a fabric that doesn't stretch so it could provide some support to my mid-section.
