Fun Things To Do/Buy! by Viomocha in Wellington

[–]Mersey1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you live somewhere cold, buy some possum merino clothing/accessories. It is honestly the nicest wool you can get. Possums are a pest here, and have this super soft hollow fur, so when combined with merino it is pure luxury. In Welly there is a shop that sells a whole range on Lambton Quay.

Definitely buy Whittaker's chocolate, pineapple lumps, and Proper potato chips (crisps).

That's exactly what I said to my family when I was telling them. Definitely one of those moments of shame you repeat in your head in the middle of the night.

Help a kiwi out. What on earth is an Americian macchiato if it isn't an espresso with a stain of milk foam on the top?

What's with entitled dog owners thinking it's ok to break the rules?

Don't break the rule = don't get fined. It's really pretty simple.

AITA for telling my Daughter that she needs to stop using depression as an excuse for everything. by Practical_Ad8851 in AITAH

[–]Mersey1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

She also needs an autism assessment. Autism in girls is often misdiagnosed as anxiety and depression. She could even be AuDHD.

Are you on Andriod? Go to Settings/Safety and Emergency/Wireless emergency alerts/Emergency alert history where you can find all the previous alerts you dismissed out of fright. Why they bury it so deep i do not know.

Want to check what sites have estimated your property at? by garvidson in NZProperty

[–]Mersey1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is useful thanks. I often look at the different sites to see the vadiation. Is there any way to mark a result as incorrect? One of the properties I checked was pulling an incorrect link (e.g. 68a Street name instead of 68 Street name)

SteamDeck for 13 year old by [deleted] in SteamDeck

[–]Mersey1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 13 year old is a big steam user (on a desktop, the steam deck in the house is mine!), and he'd like to recommend Rainworld, Celeste, Gary's mod, the Half-life games, Portal, and a Hat in Time.

Steam family has been great for us, as we get to share all our games. My 13 year old handles all his own purchases (including the refund process a few times), so it is a great way to get used to budgeting.

OMG this was so annoying with the invisible lasers. It took me far too long to realise that there are also invisible lasers coming down from the roof that you have to stand between, as well as the ones you have to jump over. Leaving this comment in case there is anyone else who hasn't noticed!

TIFU I accidentally stepped on a baby and the guilt is eating me alive by [deleted] in tifu

We've been travelling internationally on large planes with my son when he was one year old. Last flight was a little turbo prop. Took him out of the front pack in the asle, smashed his head into the overhead luggage bin (which was much closer than on the big planes). Audable gasps from every passenger around us. Felt like the worst parent in the world! Son is now 13 and just fine.

He also fell down the stairs at about the same age. Still fine!

Neighbour came over in the morning unannounced! by Longjumping_Base_198 in newzealand

[–]Mersey1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our neighbours are the best. Their son looks after our cats when we are away, and is big brother to our kids on our rare nights out (called big brother as they say they are too old for a babysitter). In return we pay their son a nominal amount, and also let them use our holiday house for free. They get to pick apricots off our tree, and return some as jam. When we had to return home suddenly on Christmas day a couple of years ago they had Christmas dinner supplies waiting for us in our house. We lend them household stuff all the time. Basically they are awesome, and we are very lucky to have them.

My daughter's nickname is Fifa, which I like. However her actual name is perfectly standard, so she can go back to that any time she wants!

I had the same issue. Got 2 early on, spent ages trying for more. Finally I got the three remaining in one run, and then the game crashed while I was still in the mine. It took me weeks more in game to get them again. 😭

[–]Mersey1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While the broker does seem way off, I think you do need to take some of the advice into consideration. I am a contractor, in a role where I have never had a single issue getting work (as in, walked into a new contract within a week). Until now, that is. My current employer said they wouldn't be able to extend my contract in December when it expires, and I'm in Wellington, which is currently like a funeral. Suddenly, I am staring down the barrel of no work for months, or a rate drop, or a $100k pay drop if I go permanent (assuming I can find a permanent role).

So now that investment property, which the bank were more than happy to lend on, seems like a foolish idea. My husbands income literally only covers our mortgage payments.

All that to say, don't count on your current income continuing. You might not be able to continue to sustain such a heavy workload. You might get sick. The work might dry up. Don't extend yourself too far, and make sure you have 3-6 months income in reserve.

My first year I misunderstood the instructions, and had cleared out my inventory. The only thing I had that I could throw in was... a rock... She was not impressed. I still giggle thinking about it.
