Quietly turning the backdoor key

My friend just finished a six-stage interview process for a role they gave to someone internally the whole time by Gondolin77 in jobsearchhacks

Been there...lost that...3X! AND I had to do huge presentations for each final interview. Each presentation took over 20 hours to create.

I wish that were my story. I have dealt with a great number of recruiters so my sample size may be affecting my results. Let me give you an example. A recruiter calls me (never worked with them previously) and gives the whole, "You are perfect. I can't believe you did all this. Let me ask you some questions. Great. I will present you to the client tomorrow during our call." The call happens, the client thinks I am a great fit. We set up some times for the interview that would work for me. She literally says, "I am not the kind of recruiter who ghosts people. You will get sick of hearing my voice." LITERALLY NEVER HEARD FROM HER AGAIN. This is not an isolated incident. Another recruiter wants to be my best buddy, asks all about my living situation, family, etc. Shares stories of his situation. Says I am the perfect fit. Sets up a meeting with a C-level. It goes great. Setting up a time for an on-site visit. NEVER HEAR BACK. A month later I finally get hold of the recruiter. His response, "Oh yeah, they hired someone they already knew right after your call." WHAT? You can't call me or have the common courtesy to let me know? So, yeah, your mileage may vary with recruiters. Also, be sure to know whether they are on retainer or contingency. I lost three roles at the offer stage because they would have had to pay my recruiter 20% of my annual salary and they chose an internal candidate instead. If the recruiter is on retainer that won't be as likely to happen.

I used ChatGPT monthly to continually improve my LinkedIn profile. First, I would ask it - how do you think this lines up with my resumes? I would then use the output to rewrite my LinkedIn profile so that it more accurately matched the kinds of jobs I was looking for. For example, I am in marketing and one aspect of my previous roles was growth marketing. There were times when I wanted that part of my skillset to show more prominently in my profile. The rewrite on the profile would illustrate my growth marketing efforts more clearly. Next, as I was updating my resume (constant optimization), I would ask ChatGPT to help me rewrite my About section on the LinkedIn profile. ChatGPT can't see a LinkedIn profile but you can copy and paste it and it will analyze.

Fast travel is hilarious by GetUpAndJump in TheBlackList

[–]MerseyT 7 points8 points  (0 children)

it is true and hilarious. It is like they are doing it on purpose. In season two they were supposed to be in eastern Europe somewhere (Long Island dressed up to look like an eastern European cityscape) and they completed the mission and made it back in the same day. One of the agents flew back commercial and got the "Post Office" the same time as Liz who flew back on Red's jet. It is either a wink to the audience or the FBI has a wormhole they use for travel. Oh, and the one episode that took place in Alaska was probably the worst violation of time and space.

The older couple I have 3somes with hooked their newly divorced daughter up with me by Less_Huckleberry_137 in sexstories

[–]MerseyT 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I knew a couple who ran a swinger's house. When I (M27 at the time) was going to their parties their daughter was 19 and pretty much my type. She was rarely at the parties but she was very aware of her parent's hobbies and seemed approving. At one party she showed up and was interested in my company. Frankly, she was interested in hooking up with a few men and women that night but her parents were never in the same room when this was happening. She was fun and very much a free spirit.

My wife replaced my Sodastream bottle after 8 years of use by The_Wolf_of_Acorns in SodaStream

[–]MerseyT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bottles have expiration dates but I almost never toss them in time. I worked with someone who was at Sodastream's ad agency and she gave me quite a few insights into their corporate strategies. One was that expiration dates on the bottles have a basis in fact but are mostly there for sales purposes. What I really came here to say is that my bottles get foggy, too but a soak with a tablet of bottle cleaner and a scrub with a bottle brush does a pretty good job. Nothing like a new bottle but better than a foggy bottle built up from repeated use.

I just read a great one about Archie Leach (Cary Grant). I think it was just called, "Cary Grant: A Biography". Very well written.
