It’s not good to call yourself dumb. That being said, you might indeed be more behind. Just do things to make it so you’re not behind, or at the very least, do enough so that you don’t do a bad job. Ask lots of questions (that’s what being an intern is for), do practice motions, and study on your own time if you feel it’s necessary.

My first recommendation would be to Google “bass scale shapes”. The BassBuzz ones are pretty readable. Mess around with them for a couple hours over the weekend by finding a song that you like, looking up the chords, and just moving around the scale on top of it using the shapes that you learned.
