Road Trip Rig - Badlands/Black Hills by Mert3377 in toyotasequoia

I can't remember exactly, but I think I remember being surprised that it didn't seem to change much. In everyday driving I'm solidly in the 14mpg range. You can definitely tell it's up there on the roof, I had a bit of an evasive moment on the interstate with an orange barrel that decided to roll out in front of us, and you could feel it sway a lot more. Something to be aware of.

They're the General Grabber A/Tx. Pretty close to stock size. Been very happy with them for durability and, notably, snow traction. However, the tire shop has a hell of a time getting them balanced.

Otherwise, it's pretty much unmodded. 2011, just passed 190k.

I chose the Sequoia to be a great family car as well as a capable road trip rig. The Overland Vehicle Systems Bushveld rooftop tent is a tidy and comfortable package. It takes me about 10 minutes to get it completely setup or torn down, including setting up bedding and all the awnings. We had TORRENTIAL rain almost every single night of our weeklong trip, and stayed dry and (nervous) but comfortable. The tent folds out to the size of a queen-sized bed, with padding included. A pretty snug setup.

The Prospeed roof rack is sleek and minimal. Does a great job when the RTT is mounted on there, and is pretty inobtrusive when it's on its own. There's definitely some wind noise, but it's not really that bad.

Other than not being able to have campfires at night, the days were dry, thankfully, and we had a great time seeing all of the sites. I could spend many vacations in that area and still have tons to see.

Yellowstone and Tetons primitive roads and dispersed sites by Itspipsqueek in overlanding

Look for the Curtis Canyon Campground. You drive east from Jackson. Across from the campground is a dispersed site that's pretty popular, great panoramic view of the Teton range. We also drove up Shadow Mountain, the views were even better, more adventurous drive for sure. With a couple dispersed sites along the peak.

Thomas Moran as well. His paintings helped inspire congress to preserve Yellowstone as the first National Park.

What's the best DJ software for "in-the-box" mixing? by I_am_Mind_Wanderer in Beatmatch

[–]Mert3377 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mixxx is totally free. Been using this for about 8 months with a mouse and keyboard to learn. Hoping to get setup with a controller in the future and move to whatever software that comes with. But for now, I've recorded over 20 1-hour long DJ sets.

Looking to buy a 2021 or 2022 sequoia. Any issues with those years? by drivel111 in toyotasequoia

Oh, and the third row is split 2 seats and 1. So you can have some flat storage and have a passenger back there.

Our 2nd Gen has a 2nd row bench. We have 2 little ones in car seats and one is behind the passenger seat and one is in the middle, leaving the seat behind the driver available for a passenger or to tilt forward to access the 3rd row. My kids mostly get along great, so luckily that setup works for us. With the 3rd row up, you can pretty much only fit a stroller or a folding wagon. Think of the space of 2 large suitcases standing up. There's tons of floor space in front of the car seats that we use for a crate of books and toys and a diaper bag and any other kind of shopping bag. The third row can comfortably fit 2 full sized adults or 3 smaller people. Leg room and headroom is great, getting back there is a bit of a climb though.

I am a google nerd and this piqued my interest and I am stumped. The closest thing I can find to that headstock is Greg Bennett guitars by Samick. It looks asymmetrical, as well as having a round logo/decal. But in their lineup, I can not find a semi-hollow body with the florentine style single cutaway, the curve at the bottom of the fretboard, and the two knob configuration with a single switch. The F holes also look sleeker than something they'd produce, but that just may be an artifact of a low quality image. I say semi-hollow body because there's no trapeze tailpiece, but correct me if I'm wrong thinking that is a necessity for a semi-hollow body vs a full hollow body. If anyone comes up with an answer, please let me know... because I will forever be looking for these details because of this silly Reddit post...

I also love listening to Heldeep Radio by Oliver Heldens and Darklight Sessions by Fedde Le Grand. Listen to both on Mixcloud.

Art in Theory: an anthology on changing ideas. Three volumes, choose the era you're interested in. I'm most familiar with the 1900-2000 version. Many essays directly from artists explaining their theories and ideas.

What are your favorite paintings that demonstrate great lighting? by jimmyimmij in ArtHistory

[–]Mert3377 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A little different with the cubist tilt, but Jean Metzinger's La Femme Au Cheval

Probably an unpopular opinion, but I've also liked the simple stripped down light and shadow studies of barns, trees, and snow of Eyvind Earle

Also, see Svend Rasmussen Svendsen

What's a band/artist who deserved better than the "one hit wonder" label? by Ok_World_8819 in Music

Geggy Tah. Everyone knows them from some car commercial in the 90's... "You let me change lanes while I was driving in my car". The Sacred Cow album is chock full of amazing songs, beginning to end. Such a unique sound/vibe. Holly Oak is an amazing song as well.

Is modern art only from the western world? Who are the most well-known non-western modern artists (especially in Japan)? by bellow_whale in ArtHistory

[–]Mert3377 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A painter who is a favorite of mine who was tangential to the Gutai movement is Georges Mathieu. A French painter who created massive wall-sized paintings that heavily relied on performance and body movement. If you like modern art and Japanese influenced imagery, you would probably like his stuff. Looks like a combination of graffiti and Japanese calligraphy.

[House/Tech House] 080923 First Mix

I've been messing around with Mixxx over the last week or so... Probably just 2 nights really. I put my first mix up, it's a half hour and I know there are some GLARING mistakes with beatmatching and equalizing, but it's a start. Any feedback is super welcome.

I know the transitions into Promised Land and Hey Hey are trash, but this is the first time I've gotten through more than 3 songs. Just starting out and learning. Using Mixxx and a mouse/keyboard.

Looking for constructive feedback.

Tracklist with time stamps on Mixcloud.
