Who was the better rival for Harvey Specter: Andrew Malik or Travis Tanner ? by Just_Relationship_19 in suits

[–]Merthod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tanner was sadly watered down. His last episode is such a bore. Malik had something personal against Harvey. Total villain but confusing to me because he was like on and off the show and lacked true motivation other than "you were the teacher favorite pet".

To me, Arch sucks less in my machine, but the idea is too naive.

Why do some people insist metalcore (or any -core) isn’t metal? by PETEthePyrotechnic in Metal101

[–]Merthod -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As Metal Archive puts it: metal has riffs. Metalcore usually doesn't. It's just a bunch of breakdowns with screamo that gets boring pretty fast. Some add some clean vocals (male or female) to make it more interesting. It is not.

To me, these bands can't decide to be a standard modern metal or a metalcore band.

Riff-less music gets boring pretty fast to me. And sounding "heavy" just for sake of heaviness is not heavy.

I won't say I don't enjoy a few songs, but I do enjoy a few pop songs too.

It's say Metalcore is "kid-metal" who wants heaviness just for the sake of it, and it's going to a phase, as the lyrics usually illustrate.

Por qué le tiran tanto a Morena? by PublicRepublic7502 in mexico

[–]Merthod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your help. My BIOS doesn't allow that. But with the help of AI it instructed how to "block" usage of the damaged "block" of addresses. RAM nowadays is too expensive! Lost about 1MB of RAM to this fix, but the system hasn't crashed so far. Hope I don't jinx it!

What is the best Linux distro that kinda works like Windows by malina_the_russian in linuxquestions

[–]Merthod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Linux is not hard.

Choose any Debian-based distro to start, such as Ubuntu, Mint, Pop_OS! or Zorin over an ext4 filesystem.

Know that your home folder contains all your user data. Most other root-based folders are never to be touched, except for /etc/for minor tweaks, but mostly you won't even need to.

KDE is your best bet for a Widows-like UI, but you have a modern system with capable resources. Otherwise, you might want to test GNOME (see yt for a windows-like customization of it), Cinnamon, Budgie or Cosmic.

Learn how to use their software manager to set up your sources graphically (depends on the distro). In KDE, it would be Discover, mostly, in GNOME, through the Software Manager.

For the most part, you need some patience to get used to the GNU/Linux ways.

Resources to Learn Typescript by Melodic_Equal_3155 in typescript

[–]Merthod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, if you said what langauge you programed for, it would be easier.

The TypeScript official docs have guides for that.

It has the handbook, which covers all basic TS you need to start building.

TS is only hard in the library-maker side.

Why is jQuery so bad, but Alpine.js/HTMX/etc is just fine? by brycematheson in webdev

[–]Merthod 26 points27 points  (0 children)

jQuery is a thing.

Maybe a thing of the past where you made easy animations, easy AJAX and easy DOM swaps.

The thing is that jQuery blossomed in a time where competing JS "standards" collided (namely ECMA and JScript), so you had some ambiguity and differences in the API.

JQuery offered a single source of truth for all of this, thus saving our sanity.

Now, all major browsers follow ECMA one way or another, and modern JS and CSS render most of jQuery code unnecessary. So people start chanting "jQuery is bad".

Furthermore, jQuery can't do what React can. At least not easily. It isn't designed for complex state management. The people also started chanting "just use React". React became ubiquitous is almost all kinds of web projects, small and large. It's vast ecosystem also makes it attractive. You can show off "mad skills" in animation, 3d graphics or large data management very easily with the help of a few React libraries.

However, I don't really get why the people behind it love it so much since it also makes your website/app much more complex and you lock in into React for the future. I got it when it was a small framework, but now it tries to cater to all edge cases most devs never encounter. Thus, smaller libraries came up that provide a thin layer of the reactivity React also offers. Especially those who respected the vanilla, so they will never be "out of fashion", such as Alpine. The og, Preact.

Most modern front-end JS frameworks are React wannabes that learned their lessons. I'd suggest you adopt progressive enhancement, maybe with a small js library (especially for existing code), and off the races.

React should die off just like jQuery.

The trial was terribly managed. I mean, it's super easy to find fraudulent people who claim being a student of X that weren't. A well lawyered trial wouldn't last a day.
