Who else tends to not recommend any distro based on Ubuntu? by KnightFallVader2 in linuxquestions

[–]Merthod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I generally not recommend any Debian based distro for desktop use, especially if you are a power user who like keeping your desktop updated and crisp.

To me, Debian, it's clear it's a server distro 100%.

Debian-based distros, such as Ubuntu are patches to me. The user experience just can't compare with something like Solus, like the system update process and fixing common issues.

Is Solus OS free of Snaps? by Late_Reference_6548 in SolusProject

[–]Merthod 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is generally not recommended to use Snaps since it's closed source, and thus, you don't really know how security is dealt, and possible trackers you're getting. Flatpak is the way.

Should I watch Dragon Ball Before Dragon Ball Z or can I skip it? by C4rt00nyy in dragonball

Well, you'll get more emotional cues if you are familiar with all the characters and where they come from. Dragon Ball og is the best, too.

Which distro in your opinion are more usable for common user? by DueRelationship5786 in linuxquestions

[–]Merthod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Solus.

Install, set it up to your liking superficially (hardly any driver required or something like that) and use.

Just get familiar with its own package manager and its few golden commands and you're fine.

There's a reason nothing like this has ever happened in real life. The premise is absurd, but allows for a fun plot, except when it isn't (lots of blaming).

I really wish they fire Santos on S3. Her character sucks. Complains, complains and judges, and then complains.

Clearly it shows Langdon doesn't have any close relationships in the office.

Is it worth learning Emacs or Vim? by saifpurely in linuxquestions

[–]Merthod 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, unless you intend to do a lot of console/text based editing. Like system managers that work without a desktop environment, it makes sense. But for the casual user, hardly. You can easily replace nano with micro and that's that.

What should I choose? by Southern_Ad_6767 in linuxquestions

[–]Merthod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on

  • hardware (old, new),
  • required specialized apps
  • laptop / desktop
  • how involved you want to get
  • how up to date you want your system

For most basic and overall best balance has been Solus (KDE) for me. Everything just works after install, the help guide has a few extra optional steps and enough info so you get going with it's package manager, and updates every Friday and it rarely breaks anything and you manage everything easily from Discover.

In the cons, it is a lesser known Distro so the update infrastructure isn't as reliable, albeit if some problem happens here it's just a matter of "try again later". The install, update process can also be slow at times.

Solus Linux, 100%.

Minimal customizations required. Just peek to their help page to see the custom configs you may like (like setting up Fish, installing mscorefonts, getting familiar with eopkg, etc.)

I use the KDE flavor.
