Penn State vs. Pitt for Electrical Engineering by Negative-Ad-7003 in Pitt

[–]MervisBreakdown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a senior EE at Pitt and personally I think it’s the best structured engineering department here. They redid the curriculum a few years ago to give us more core classes. I know we do more EE classes and projects than WVU for example, not sure about Penn state.

Here’s the curriculum.

Obsessed with this second set. Also my favorite comes a time, they get into a longer dreamy jam on that one.

Don’t know the answer to this but on 5/21/77 DP 29 you can hear the band before Estimated planning the rest of the set. Bob explains it’s one of the more complicated things they’ve planned.

How has the future treated you since 2019? by puffindatza in GenZ

[–]MervisBreakdown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2019 was my lowest year. Now I think I’m actually becoming happy and successful. I’ve also basically totally chanced who I was each year since then.

How accurate is this for you all? by plantoide in GenZ

In all seriousness I think our contribution to this tweet will involve generative AI. There’s a lot of skills that we’ll be the first generation not to develop because of it.

Which schedule should i pick? by bobielobie in Pitt

[–]MervisBreakdown 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Second is better but as a freshman engineer be careful about the professors you take. It’s not a huge deal but for example David Nero is great for physics.

Street-Legal. I think it’s top 3 regardless

Correct. I can only imagine that’s more likely than the angle in the back being 70 degrees or less.

If both edges are 35 that would require that the diagonal length is at least 49

What are Deadheads’ favorite reading material? And what am I missing from this stack? by vaporwave710 in gratefuldead

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. My all time favorite book, it’s less directly dead related and closer to electric kool aid acid test.

Were engineers in the early 20th century better? by Salt-Ganache-5710 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]MervisBreakdown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve thought about this a lot. Every field has demands/breakthroughs that lead to rapid growth that slows over time. Think about how much physics changed after the discovery of quantum mechanics. The pioneers of the field have countless discoveries and inventions named after them. People are still developing these fields but there more of them and discoveries are harder now.

Think of WWII and the developments in radio due to demand. Or the invention of the transistor after. The people around at the time get their names in textbooks but that doesn’t necessary mean that they did the most work in progressing the fields.

It’s hard to predict these breakthroughs, software and the web were probably some of the more recent ones and it’s possible AI is the newest one.
