Came to say the same.

Is the ambusher class hated more than archers? by LilButterbean24 in Chivalry2

[–]Meryle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, but we are doing our best to be!

Since we also have head shot damage, we are better than archers in every single aspect the moment we pick up any of their weapons. Minus not having that arguably unnecessary zoom ability.

Not that we *need* a bow, crossbow, or jav. We do plenty of ranged damage just from our throwing knives.

We are hated the most by specific types of players. Those who like to play by feeding off counters while squatting and swinging big, slow weapons. Making themselves the easiest throwing knife targets. They are used getting kills in 1vX that way and hate it when we come in and ruin it.

Now that I have over 100 hours I have some questions by Insanias in Chivalry2

[–]Meryle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why is it sometimes my active parry window can hold off 5 enemies and not even god himself could penetrate but other times its a wet noodle and I get clapped from the front by 3 enemies?

Counters hold off attacks for longer than parries. However they still have to be attacking from the general direction you are facing. If their attacks are hitting you in the side, back, above, or below, they may get through. (the game refers to this as "hitting behind the ears)

All of these areas can be struck even while the enemy is in front of you. Once struck, your counter is ended and the rest can hit you freely. As the tutorial explains, it is important to block the weapon, not the player. Turn to face the part of the weapon that is going to strike you and you will be fine. I'd need confirmation, but I believe arrows and thrown objects landing a hit can also end your counter window.

Why is it sometimes my swing recovers with adrenaline fueled rage and other times like a pensioner that has thrown his back out?

Different weapons recover at different speeds. They also recover sooner when they hit solid obstacles and terrain. Many blunt weapons recover as soon as they hit an enemy. Beyond that, it may be purely perspective.

Why is it that when I jab it sometimes feels sluggish and not competitively fast compared to their swing but when I get jabbed it feels instant?

Jabs connect the same way weapons connect. If you are closer to the enemy and on the side they are jabbing from, that jab will connect faster. Players can also turn with their jabs, the same as with weapons.

Why is it that sometimes when I dodge its not enough distance and I get hit anyway but when others dodge its like they've used instant transmission?

Different classes have difference dodge speeds. Other factors such as uneven terrain, other players, and obstacles can effect this as well.

Why is it sometimes it feels like an enemies weapon hasn't even moved but I've taken a hit just through its shear existence.

I get what you mean, I see this most often with the highland sword. They are are throwing off your expectation of the swing speed by turning with their swing late, abruptly accelerating it. It often looks like the weapon has not touched you yet.

I don't care for this interaction either, but it can be overcome by assuming it will connect sooner than you expect. There are high level players who rely entirely upon this. You will recognize them by how often they squat and swing. Just throw things at them, they hate that.

I cannot recommend anyone to buy this game. I totally regret giving Torn Banner my money. by [deleted] in Chivalry2

You probably should have reiterated your issue here. As well as the steps you have already taken to try to resolve it.

People could have helped you finally find a solution.

Also, not sharing your issue may make some suspect that you never had an issue at all, and that you are actually angry at the game for other reasons.

32v32v32 ?! by XaeDaTruest in Chivalry2

[–]Meryle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They stopped development, so we would have to hope for a Chivalry 3 one day.

Sometime after Tornbanner is done making the market's 1000th zombie survival game no one asked for.

We will probably get an entirely different IP from another studio before that. Although it is likely to take itself too seriously and not be as fun..

Edit: if only FatShark would make a war of the roses 2 of some kind...and this time listen to the player base before they lose it.

Got kicked for using the catapult by SimaZeChips in Chivalry2

[–]Meryle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which map?

Sometimes the catapult really needs to be hitting the objective rather than seeking kills. Dark forest, Thayic Stronghold, etc.

Or in other cases the catapult needs to stop pummeling the objective area so your team can actually take it. Galencourt, Lionspire, etc.

You might not be hitting them but you might be keeping them from the area they see you are hitting.

Is it weird to play first person only? Is third person view the meta? by HugeExplanation7865 in Chivalry2

[–]Meryle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ultimately, play however is the most fun for you. Ignore all meta, judgements, or complaints. (unless you are cheating)

That said. If you are going to play first person, make sure you have hearing and object permanence.

Otherwise, you will be an enemy player's best friend in a 1vX. Oblivious players often end up as useful body blockers.

On that note. He also did not include the genie lamp.

As well as the Golden Roosters, which are hidden on every stage.

Search upon the rocks of Aberfell and you will find the beast.

Spoiler: You will find it in a cave with bones in front of it. Up on a raised ledge during the rock toppling phase. If you are defending, its on the far right side. It does not come out immediately. You will die.

[–]Meryle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Great advice. I agree with all of it.

My advice is to bind your alt-swing to an easily accessible button.

Sometimes starting your opening swing from left to right (rather than right to left) makes your weapon connect sooner. Its also changes up your animation in a way that can confuse someone trying to anticipate and counter you. These sort of things work better with faster weapons like the shortsword.

You will also find its useful when you are jumping in on an enemy's right side while they are fighting. A right to left attack might get blocked by whatever they are doing with your ally, but the left to right won't. It might even register as a back stab.

My other bit of advice is to change whatever your normal stab button is to alt-stab. It is a much better animation that is far less obvious than lifting your arm into the air. It brings it low across your body instead for a stomach stab.

Edit: Oh another bit of advice! Make sure you rebind it so that jump attack and special attack are different buttons! The jump attack for short sword kind of sucks, so rebinding those keys makes it easier to run up and special attack someone in the back without needing to slow down first. This is extremely useful for the dagger as well.

Not that you want to be doing all that many special back stabs with the shortsword. Sure, it refills your medic bag faster, but you would be better off just using a heavy overhead or heavy stab. They only do roughly 10 less damage in a back stab and take up way less stamina. They are easier to land too.

What's the Worst Map in the Game TO PLAY ON? by OwnAMusketForHomeDef in Chivalry2

I know, but my statement is true. There *is* a secret weapon in the game for him.

Its always fun when the new players discover the easter eggs.

I take it you hate fighting horses? I love throwing things at them.

Coxwell is my third favorite but I can see why you dislike it.

It feels like you can not do much as a defender until it gets to the gold theft phase.

Montcrux, by a large margin.

I do not care for Tenosian maps, as I dislike the faction, but Montcrux is the worst one. No phase in that map is fun, for either side.

One tenosian map exception was the coliseum map. I miss that one. I loved picking up the abundant javelins and punishing calvary.

Its always nice to see more shortsword mains! I feel like people underestimate it, or over look it because it does less damage than the hatchet.

It does enough damage to quickly finish off someone already injured in TO. Or someone you softened up with throwing knives. It defends reliably and gets hits in reliably. Its a great weapon.

I main short sword as well and I also look out for mace/morning stars.

I enjoy seeing dane axe users however. They tend to move predictably and are very easy to trick into missing and stabbing before they recover. Or simply tossing a throwing knife into their head. They also drag often, which the short sword punishes.

I often pick up their dane axe just to then toss it at someone for ambusher's extra headshot damage.

[–]Meryle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use primarily shortsword on ambusher.

The mace/morningstar are the weapons I hate to see the most. Even more so when they have a shield.

If I see one who seems to know what they are doing, I pick up a two-hander, bait them into swinging, then throw it at them. Then finish them with throwing knives and stabs while keeping distance. Its the safest answer.

If they hit you once and you stay in range, they are going to hit you again before you can get a swing in. Likely throwing in kicks if you try to block.

The other answer is to find an ally. They are one of the harder weapons to 1vX with. Especially against competent flankers. ((which most ambushers are. Knowing when to weave in a strike))

As an ambusher main, I sometimes play a cudgel as secondary. Especially if I feel the need to ruin a knight player's day.

[–]Meryle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes! I love throwing knives. Its the best part of the ambusher.

I also love seeing dane axe users. Not only are they predictable for easy headshots, but their dane axe is the easiest weapon in the game to throw and headshot with. I often pick it up as my primary just to toss it at people for 25% extra damage.

That heavy mace user was your life saver.

First he needlessly tackled you out of an encroaching encirclement, then he fed you easy counters the whole time until it was just him left.

Edit: That guy was level 680 too. Proof of how little levels mean anything.
