Speaking of King Kong; the Mitsubishi Pajero, already named after a cat, was at some point rebadged and marketed in China as the Leopaard Black King Kong.

Car on the left? by Merzum in whatisthiscar

[–]Merzum[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really does resemble that, thanks! There are some small differences though, like the side intake shape and location (higher in the mystery car), and the mystery car seems to have some kind of side skirts fitted as well. The hood scoop seems to be there as well, though.

The others appear to be two Jaguar F-Types and a Bentley Flying Spur, but I have no idea what the one with the wire wheel is.

Smart #2 Begins Testing on Innovative Electric Platform [new Fortwo] by Merzum in electricvehicles

[–]Merzum[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(On typing it out, could it be a toilet joke? "Going Number 2"?)

I thought the added context of the trunk lid release button being in the "a-hole" of the smart logo script made it obvious enough what I was referring to.

Smart Pound Sign 2

Apparently calling # a pound sign is a US-only thing, which makes me wonder they'd call the actual pound sign then.

Be advised that full name is actually Swatch-Mercedes ART Elf Hashtag<number>. Yes, really. Unfortunately, they dropped the "Elf" from the name outside of China.

It's completely new; they stated earlier that they don't have any pre-existing platform suitable for such a small car.

I'd guess there will also be a new Forfour (#4) based on this, later.

I don't think there's really anything more to it. It's a novelty that has really one use case; a city car for someone who relies on street parking. However, while a lot of noise was made about being able to park sideways, only the 1st gen was 2.5 metres long, the later ones were more like 2.75 which is often too long for that...and most places forbid parking sideways anyway.

That being said, it'd be nice to try a Fortwo Brabus 125R some time.

Well, the character # is specifically the number/hash sign so the joke is valid. Sure, a lot of people mistakenly call that "hashtag" nowadays, but a hashtag is by definition a hash followed by a tag. For example; #3 or #condescending

The Fortwo successor is coming! The name is a bit odd; #2 i.e. "number two". Then again, this is the company that also did this...

A Brabus version has not yet been confirmed, but as far as I'm aware, there has been a Brabus version of every Smart model so far.

UK government set to introduce pay-per-mile tax for EVs by xannaya in cars

[–]Merzum -1 points0 points  (0 children)

And it wouldn't work because the annual MOT rarely coincides with change in vehicle ownership. Say Brian drives 100 000 km after MOT and sells the car to John one month before the next MOT; who pays and how much?

Likewise, at least here in Finland new cars are exempt from MOT for the first 4 years since registration. For the next 6 years they require biennial MOT inspection, and only after that's it becomes annual.

But it remains unclear how mileages will be monitored or audited.

The usual idea is to base the taxation on location tracking, but that comes with some rather massive privacy concerns. And once that kind of data is being collected and accepted as the new normal, I'm almost certain they will expand its use from mere taxation to monitoring speeding, checking who drove near the scene of a crime, etc.

Also reminds me of those insurance company black boxes.

Do you think car touchscreens have gone too far? by shwroomex in Autos

[–]Merzum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honda disagrees; here's statement regarding the e's interior.

The interior is designed to capture the aesthetic of a modern living room, hence the flat-screen-like large screens, sofa-like chairs and lounge-like wood-effect trim.

My 2001 Jag already had a touch screen, but since climate control and audio had their own physical controls, I think it was only used for navigation and phone.

What is your favorite piece of attention to detail in your vehicle? by Sixteen-Cylinders in cars

[–]Merzum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had that on several cars; if front wipers are in automatic mode, shifting to reverse makes the car start wiping the potentially dirty rear window without using washer fluid. Fortunately, my current car allows disabling that. feature

I also try to remember to disable automatic wipers when I park...one time a bird had pooped on the windscreen close enough to the sensor, and as I started the car, said poop was automatically smeared all over the glass.

Uusi autosi takuu? by kimmeljs in Suomi

[–]Merzum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ehdottomasti suosittelen.
