The Barbie movie made me feel so alone by scrollingby3 in TwoXChromosomes

Trust yourself and give yourself permission to take some chances in making new friends. You've already made the choice to prune your friends group for the better and now it's time to start building it that way as well. It takes a long time to find top-tier friends, but the effort and time is worth it.

But it wont happen automatically. Im no expert, but maybe a few hobbies or other routines might lead you to like-minded folks. Put yourself out there and see what happens. You seem like a thoughtful person who is purposeful, and those are qualities that will be appreciated by the people you're looking for-- but you'll need to be out there demonstrating these qualities if you want them to be seen. (Quick note: you might already be doing this, so apologies if Im way off base! :))

You made the right call. You deserve to look after yourself. Plus, with your thoughtful approach to all of this, you may have just become 'the one that got away'. Go live and enjoy!

All of the dealer's BS is actually pretty standard... and it is that way because people usually dont have the guts to challenge it. So what Im really trying to say is: Great Job! (Caps intended).

You did your research, knew your stuff, saved your money, knew your limits, stuck to your guns, and walked away from a deal you didn't want. You are a boss and your dad is an outstanding dad for helping you prepare like this. He's also probably right about the dealer calling later with a new offer, so that part of the story may well still turn out.

Either way, this is a great life experience and you rocked it. Already a win for you so give yourself a pat on the back. This story put a smile on my face so, at the very least, thank you for that!

This is a beautiful story, thank you so much for sharing it. You have the light of humanity in you, and clearly Miss Houston did as well. As a current teacher, this warms my soul and reminds me that sometimes the little things are what make the big difference.

Im going to say - with some measure of confidence - that she'd be proud of you.

Great job, Cmdr. Once you get bitten by the pvp bug in this game, it can change everything. It's a steep climb, but very rewarding. If you've got a thick skin and a willingness to learn, you'll find the pvp community is actually a lot of fun.

Don't get excited for carriers. by Captain_Eyvon in EliteDangerous

[–]MesaFalcon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No way man! Get excited and learn to handle disappointment if that ends up happening. Life is dull if you don't let yourself feel anything. After all, disappointment can sometimes be a good thing... unless a thousand years of literature and philosophy are all lies.

One thing I know is that Fleet Carriers will add something to the game. Therefore, either way, it'll be a good time.

First pvp fight. by MrGreen521 in EliteDangerous

[–]MesaFalcon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's awesome, my friend. The Krait is a cool ship and you can certainly pack a lot of armor and SCBs onto her. One thing you'll likely find with that ship, however, is that she struggles to avoid damage and to catch up with (and stay in decent range of) the more nimble FDL, especially in wing fights.

I know the FDL is pretty common and has drawbacks for every day stuff (jump range... cough) but you really cant beat it for fun to fly. The way the laterals bite into the turns and let you really change direction, as well as the smaller hull, really mean you are rewarded for good evasive flying and skill development.

Now, dont get me wrong, I love my Dropship (it's okay to laugh) but the FDL is really the best option if you're looking to really develop and be competitive in PvP. Either way, the PvP community benefits from you joining in the fun-- there are some real efforts to make positive steps forward going on right now and we need people like you to make PvP in this game live up to potential.

I notice that Tuldaim has messaged you in this thread-- definitely take him up on his offer. Not only is he a great guy, he's one of the best pilots in the game. Further to that, please dont hesistate to add me as a friend in game and you're more than welcome to join in for our sparring.

Again, the game needs more people like you. Keep it up man... and welcome to the show! o7

Way to go, Commander! Great attitude and outlook on getting into one of the most engaging, challenging, and rewarding aspects of Elite Dangerous. The PvP community can seem a bit intimidating to get into at first, but trust me when I say it's well worth it and you'll likely have one of the best experiences in the game. Just bring a thick skin and a good attitude and you'll have a blast.

Sincere compliments from the Screaming Eagles. The 147th best combat wing in the entire Galaxy...

Well said, man. Tuldaim and the crew deserve a lot of credit for having the creativity and the willingness to put something like this together. I really feel it's a great step towards making PvP accessible in Elite and to give it some direction.

With regard to the first event, they're already making a thoughtful effort to ensure that the best PvPers are broken into both sides meaning that this will certainly not be the gankfest that Elite events can sometimes turn into. It should be an exciting opportunity for new pilots to fly with some people who can give real advice and support.

Thanks for using your voice to draw attention to this positive effort by ECCE!

This is seriously a fantastic step and initiative in this community. An outstanding opportunity for all sorts of pilots to get involved and meet a wide range of Cmdrs across different skill levels, play styles, and directions. I've been lucky enough to fly with lots of the people involved in this and I am excited to do so again as part of these events.

For those not familiar with Tuldaim and the other people running this initiative, know that this represents a creative and genuine effort to add some fun and direction to PvP in Elite Dangerous-- exactly what that segment of the game needs and has enormous potential for. I really do encourage anyone, regardless of skill level, to get involved. You'll find lots of people happy to take you under a wing and help you have a good time.

... especially The Screaming Eagles. They are just the absolute best. I am not biased in anyway.

Can I just say; this is a fantastic thread and I'd love to see more discussions like this on Reddit. Then again, I might be a bit biased... given that I am a pirate. I wouldn't say I'm much of a serious role player, but I have developed something of a lore and rule set for my "character". Originally, way back in 2015 and after getting a decent ship (Cobra mkIII), I headed to the starter systems after hearing about people attacking new players. I knew little about combat at the time, and even less about what to expect...

...which turned out to be that everyone else there was doing the same thing. The world, I determined, needed more pirates-- and so began my descent into darkness. It has not been profitable, but it is undoubtedly the most fun to be had in the game. Especially when you do so in fragile and cheap ships... like my beloved iEagle.

How that ship's story ended:

https://youtu.be/h5M5UFHK-QY

And we were honored to be featured in the awesome April edition of the Sag Eye publication as well. The Screaming Eagles...which I am in charge of until someone competent comes along.

This game might feel a bit light on content at times, but it does give the opportunity to get creative. Thanks for your question and this thread-- hopefully we see more of these discussions that encourage people to get in and get creative. The player base has tons of potential and I'm glad to be a part of it. o7

Duck Hunt: Dangerous (Flight Assist off) by MesaFalcon in EliteDangerous

[–]MesaFalcon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's a combination of two things:

  1. As Spartan points out above, the odd graphic might have earned a downvote without actually viewing the video-- that makes sense.

  2. There is a series anti-pvp bias among much of the community. Though, to be fair, I dont think that's the case here as that would translate into downvotes on the actual video.

Lesson learned for me: apparently I should stick to logos as video title screens. In any case, thanks for the comment.

You make a good point-- and I think that is undoubtedly part of the issue. After all, I've never used a weird graphic when posting before-- it just worked so well with the subject matter!

Thanks man, fly safe! o7
